Alien Invasion, you're in charge, what do you do?

Assuming hostile intent:

1. Immediately and in secret meet with all world governments to form a set of contingency plans. (bonus: the planet finally has a reason to stop killing each other and pursue a common humanitarian objective).

2. Assess the situation in terms of potential threat, response scenarios, alternatives to compliance, defense posture potential, etc.

3. Determine a negotiation/stalling strategy should the option become available one month's hence. Must the third be accessed all at once or can we serve them up piecemeal?

3. Assuming we had the choice of selecting the third were we to comply, assemble a list from which to comply, starting with volunteers, the terminally ill, violent criminals/prisoners, etc.

4. Examine hypothetical, e.g., can we exploit some biological frailty (send infecteds in advance, take advantage of some weakness (they can't breath our atmosphere, function in our gravity, sensitivity to UV radiation, etc.)).

5. If we can manage global cooperation, and decide against compliance, prepare all of the possible militaristic offensive hardware, command and control mechanisms, battle plans, etc., that we can and prepare to fight to the death.

6. Corollary to #4: Select several dozen groups of humans to be sequestered in undergrounds bunkers, caverns, research facilities, submarines, etc. to provide a chance, however remote, for the human species to regroup and survive to start over once the smoke and dust clears - if it ever does.

7. Consider Operation Scorched Earth: Should hostilities commence, and the aliens follow through with their threat, and it appears all hope is lost for salvation, then take as many of the filthy critters down as possible, along with their vessels and hardware, poison the wells, and initiate Armageddon. Ideally, we would communicate such ultimatum intent to our captors, and thereby introduce a possible last-chance settlement/treaty. The Earth's governments have enough nuclear weaponry to kill every human several thousand times over. So - invite the buggers down for a pow-wow and and if things go bad for us - push the red button.

8. Hope and pray (not a very effective strategy) that there are benevolent aliens nearby prepared to intervene on our behalf. (Hey - we're playing a thought experiment here! we can toss in a potential savior race, can't we?)

I think your response might just be the best one so far. It opens up so many options and really hits on the face that you're not the only World leader and should be working alongside the others. Star for you

One third of the population? 33%? That would be roughly 2.3 billion souls.

I would tell them to take our political, religious, and financial leaders. All of them from every country. Then take every billionaire that there is. (Except for Bill Gates of course, he's cool). Throw in the Bildeburgs (sp?) and Rothschild's for good measure.

Once they have the dumbest of the dumb and the richest of the rich, go for the poorest of the poor in the most under-developed and impoverished nations on the planet. Not meaning to sound cruel here, but put them out of their misery. You know as well as I do that they cannot possibly enjoy their existence, and the rest of the population do not have the caring or the intestinal fortitude to stare that problem in the face and do something about it.

In short, take out everyone on this planet that keeps the population in chains.

For it could be to displace population to restart humanity again or they want experimental subjects. So reason matters. I don't normally take part in these "what if" scenarios, I find them to be misleading. But posing the hypothetical question I would offer a hypothetical answer.

If we were given no choice in that they are going to take one third of the population and allowed a choice of who goes, its kind of obvious who the world leaders should choose to go.

All you have to ask yourself is would the world be a better place with the "Talmudist's" gone?

Firstly, acceptance of inevitable.
We have wasted, wasted, wasted, precious resources for decades on frivolity and feeding the war machine.

Secondly, protect those that are important to the future survival of the human race,
medical people, scientists, engineers, teachers and farmers that grow our food and have an understanding of the land;
get them underground.

Thirdly, use the opportunity to empty world society of the unproductive,
including ALL religious parasites.

Keeping this selection process free from corruption would be difficult,
if not impossible.

Might be the best thing ever happened.

My point exactly. The core corruption come from the above mentioned. The teachers, scientists, philosophers, should be free of the above mentioned influences. Are we being given a choice as to who goes and who stays?

Ask why they want a third of the population. If answer is to resettle them elsewhere and we are given guarantees then allow them to go. If answer is anything negative or no answer given then attack and fight. Even if they are more advanced. And element of surprise is key to attack.

If we don't fight then they will probably return and take more people until none is left. Imagine one of your loved ones was selected to be taken and you don't know what will happen to them.

If they are not friendly then definitely attack.

I say take all of the U.S. and parts of Europe ... and the Middle East ... maybe Russia and China.

i would tell every nation to nuke them and if that dont work threaten to destroy our own planet then its no good for anyone

If this hyperthetical situation arises, can I be on your team?
If it came to them requesting the death of other humans, then it would be as Americans say, lock and load time!

If I get to decide who stays and who goes, then I would ask to keep all women and children and any able bodied male under the age of 40. If thats not enough then take anyone they can find in the middle east.

I would give the entire human population a daily dosage of '___' , give them a few days of security and protection to sort themselves out. Then I think we would have a better chance, finding the proper solution. As the human race is very much unaware of their own individual existence. Definitely a tremendous boost of perception, and thus intelligence is needed. Otherwise we would be no more a threat to an advanced civilization as an ant is to a dog.

It's not a question of brute force and weaponry, it s the ultimate question of Who pocesses the most awareness of their individual infinite power. A large collective of self aware or self-realized human beings, should be very sufficient for dealing with ANY creature that uses aggression and fear against us. Pure crystal, intelligence that comes from the Devine within, can not be destroyed and comes with an infinite supply of divine help.

If the aliens wanted a checkmate senario they would probably land a mothership in the most inhospitable place on a planet. The South Pole for example or where the mass amounts of ice has accumulated. This would by them some time. Here they would create an outpost. Fresh water and pretty much void of life and threats. If they want to own the planet they would use this outpost to flood the planet by melting the polar ice, Thus protecting and placing their mothership outpost so it would eventully be frozen under miles of ice. With their outpost hidden, they would repopulate the planet. Then leaving in other crafts they would leave their monitoring equipment actuve to forwarn them of the planet's technicological advances. Returning when needed to monitor and catalog progress. If things get too advanced on the planet and their planet is threatened, they would have the option to flood the planet again and start over. But not before saving the ones to repopulate.

Fight. Duh. Arm every mother f%ck^r out there, and say "Right, let's get to work! "
