You have a pretty dark view of Humanity, yes there are those of us who kill and maime, there are the elites who turn us against eachover with war and prejudice but my day to day life is filled with love and friendship.
I believe (maybe naively) that the human race is basically good, and that we have a lot to offer.
ALS
death, destruction, poverty and hunger

I saw at least one reference to their "Prime Directive".
One reason aliens may not reveal themselves is that they could be from our future and don't want to mess-up the timeline.
Another reason is that they prefer us to make our own mistakes and learn from them evolving our technology at our own pace. To guide us would be to take away the joy of guiding ourselves.
Someone made the mistake in thinking that I think that aliens are peaceful beings. They aren't but that doesn't mean they are going to torture us or destroy us and take over. They have the technology to enslave us all, destroy us all, do whatever they want. But they haven't. The evil is probably out of boredom.

I personally believe that ET's are not visiting earth because they do not know about our existence/or they do know of us and can not get here...
We have received messages from others, and my guess is others have received our signals.
Edit: don't forget, it takes years and years to get to the closest star. And that is traveling at light speed...edit on 13-5-2011 by You2Two2AreSpecial because: (no reason given)

unless you believe some one here on earth has "home grown" flying saucers, "aliens" are already here.

Considering in all likelihood the Milky Way Galaxy alone has AT LEAST thousands of technologically intelligent races, why wouldn't they stop by the Earth? The odds are there are at least a few species of life within 1000 light-years of Earth that have the capability to get here, and if they are anything like us, why wouldn't they at least stop and say hi?
Unless you believe in the rare earth hypothesis, or that the speed of light thingy is an end-all-be-all stop to interstellar travel, why WOULDN'T Planet Earth get a few visitors now and then?
The theory goes we could aproach 99.99999.... % of the speed but as we do mass increases until the last (n)th percent takes an infinite amount of energy to achieve. .Which we don't have...so the 100% and 101% light speed condition is "right out".

Interesting theory.
I have a question that I have to ask if you don't mind. Maybe someone can answer it.
If we need to attain the speed of light = 299 792 458 m / s
What are the implications if we travel at say, just one mile per second slower?
299 792 457 or one mile per second faster? 299 792 459
By not achieving light speed, does this throw the whole theory off? If we go faster, does this do something as well?
I don't know how to look at this so if someone knows, I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Most of them don't really visit, they just access the internet by our satellites.
