I'm going to as you the same question I've asked everyone else who shares your feelings. what do YOU propose as a punishment? I'm talking a punishment for the exact circumstances outlined in the article.

make them sit in at break times, better still make them come back during break times to clean up the mess. always worked at my school, there was never any need to restrict food or use food in such a way.
i remember doing graffiti on a desk, my punishment was spend break times sanding down said desk to get rid of the graffiti. they did'nt go "oh my god! we are going to take away food"
the punishment should match the crime, so in this case make them stay behind or come back during their time to clean it up. let the parents know to, some parents could'nt care less but alot of them actually do and can resolve the problem at home.
Joseph Stalin, who tightened his grip on power by deliberately starving millions of his subjects to death during the Holodomor, would endorse the general concept.

I send my kids to school with cold sandwiches every day. Since when is making your child eat cold sandwiches wrong? LOL Where my kids go, if the students misbehave they either have to eat lunch alone or they have to walk the fence alone at recess. When I was a kid, we got whapped with a ruler.
I'll raise hell when the school tells me I can't send lunch with them and they have to eat what the cafeteria is serving. That'll be something to talk about.

Title is a little misleading don't you think? The kids did get food not like they went hungry. So they get a sandwich instead of a hot meal like millions of workers across the country.

The parents were probably upset because they actually had to take time to cook their children dinner that week.

i believe it would be seen as cruel if parents used food as punishment.
"you did not tidy your room, not proper meal for you boy! (evil laugh)". so my problem here is why schools think it is o.k. to use those kind of methods.
what next? if they misbehave ferther they will be put on bread and water?
