Talk about deflecting the ownus.
It's funny how the most starred posts in this thread are also the most immature and likely from the oldest people here
. If you could stop being
so militantly defensive about your age group maybe we could... you know... talk about the POINTS...? What is this, a political campaign
? Haha,
just kidding, this didn't cost me tax dollars from my low-income home.
So, allow me for a moment to divert away from from these 30-odd pages of this completely uneducated, arbitrarily defensive, agist fluff and let's
talk about the things that younger generations are bringing up already that older generations have been weaseled into accepting over the years and
totallyig screwed younger generations by letting them take over:
Banks stopped giving us interest on our money... we now pay them "service fees" for them to make money off of us... yes, this makes loads of sense.
Also, there is no cap on the interest for mortgages, so the compound percentage just keeps going up and up. Younger people can pay upward of 300%
markup just for housing. I wonder how the distribution of wealth got so skewed....
We are required to pay Insurance companies by law. They then, in turn provide, us with NO insurance when we need it. We have to pay lawyers to take
them to court to get a fraction of what we needed back and the "system" is totally okay with that. Oh, did I mention that they just jack up your
rates when you use their service so that in the next 4 months or so you've paid off what you used the insurance for and now you're paying double, if
you're lucky, for a long, long time. Thank God for insurance companies, surely without them the population would get financially screwed...
.
Healthcare is controlled by insurance companies and the stock market (money) rather than the well-being of our citizens. Drugs these days legally have
to tell you on the ads that they can kill you, but what you may not know is that they legally have to almost be able to kill you at this point because
as a publicly owned corporation, they have a legal obligation to raise stockholder value above everything else. The best way to do this is to give you
drugs that will just temporarily relieve your SYMPTOMS instead of actually FIXING THE PROBLEM just so that a multi billion dollar corporate entity can
continue making insane profits off of a large population, and we're all dying for it, literally.
Almost all political problems stem from financial greed. Why don't we disallow corporations from funding election campaigns? Obama and Jack Layton
got most of their money from personal donations via social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter (AKA, 'the devil' that none of you want to
understand unless you're 40-50, female, and trying to connect to your family members). The most corrupt of these is that media outlets are allowed to
sponsor political campaigns for private compensation... as a result we get a plethura of "news" on the TV that conflicts with the reality of things
that we hear online from REAL PEOPLE (you would think that ATS of all places would lack this ignorance but apparently not). But nevermind, getting rid
of the obvious problem is too much for the defeatist nation of boomers... This is generationally gapped because people in Generation X primarily get
their news from an internet source that provokes discussion rather than a one-sided corporate entity gurgitating "facts" whilst in bed with
political parties.
...Which brings me to my next point... I understand that you're old and life has thrown its share of curveballs at you, but can you please stop
DEMOTIVATING MY GENERATION? I'm so sick of hearing you people complain about how "there's just nothing we can do" and how "there are just forces
greater than you sometimes". OOOOH, okay
. Sorry, but I'm not about to drop anchor while this place is more of a company than country
(unfortunately we went bankrupt ages ago but we'll just keep pluggin away :@@
. Last time I checked, our "forefathers" that you all claim to
respect so much called this country a "democracy" for a reason. I'm also rather sick of having my friends being shipped off to other countries to
get themselves killed so that some corporate entities can continue being in bed with American politicians. You can go ahead and chime out of your
little hole in which you sulk, but I'll be over here doing something about it instead, regardless of how complacently pessimistic you want to be
about every single subject. The internet is at my fingertips and I'm not afraid to use it, neither was Egypt, neither was Iran, what the hell is
wrong with this hemisphere? Oh right, "There's nothing we can do
"...
. Hurry back to your $5.99 cheese"burger" and "fries", this
situation is getting really complicated
(I'm not going to get into how this plays into the game they're playing with your health as I outlined
earlier).
Other strong issues that young people have been bringing up:
-Law enforcement is uneducated about their actual laws. We have portable information access and most "kids" between 15 and 30 have immediate access
to this information at their fingertips, why doesn't law enforcement?
-Why do we all pay hundreds upon hundreds of people to sit in an oversized room and sling insults at eachother and call it "politics" when we can
all communicate with eachother and generally come to a conclusion that can encompass the reality of the situation rather than on an online forum or
IRC?
-Why does the entire country pay for postal services? Who uses that archaic nonsense for naything but packages?
-Why does the lower class pay taxes to help support the business class? Why are large corporations allowed to get all of the tax breaks?
-Why do people who can't afford standard rent in their area still pay income tax?
-Why are the most complex and costly support systems in this country built to support the growth of those who are already succeeding?
But, anyways, what would I know? I'm 22 so apparently I just listen to Lady GaGa, watch American Idol, LOL on Facebook all day, and enthuse about
anarchy/socialism. Trust me, it's what you told me I do, so it must be right because it's older. This "argument" isn't just complacent,
ad-hominem tripe at all
... Oh woops, that got the most stars on the page I better watch out; can't make fun of "experienced" argument like
this
. What was that you were saying about whiney complacency again?
Really, let's face it, "adults". We may have less grey in our hair (and i say less because I have had 2 'wisdom marks' in my hair since I was 11)
but that doesn't neccesarily mean that we have more growing up to do than you older folks. And based on your "arguments" on this thread...
.
All of that being said, the last thing this needs to turn into is a generational war, we know the problems, we shouldn't have to point fingers or
uphold some sort of generational egoity. Let's try to fix them--together, something tells me it will be a lot more productive of an endeavor than
this shadow-throwing nonsense. Just to end the immaturity battle that this thread has become: "My dad can beat up your dad. I know you are, but what
am I." There we go, immature argument officially polarized. Move on.
