We need both the adults wisdom born of experience, AND, the child's pure heart. Idealism AND realism both.

AND - the holy conjunction.

It needn't be an either/or, but instead an all inclusive proposition.

The "indigo starseeds" recently had a self congratulatory love-in fest, as a point of differentiation, in order to be special never realizing that "special" is all of mankind's natural state of being, to a one.

So now the "young people" have to do the same thing? It's understandable, given the degree to which they were dealt out of the game by fumbling old timers, I get that, but imbedded in the very idea of a me vs. you, young vs. old, genius vs. mediocre or "normal", that we lose the very best part of what binds us ALL together as human beings, don't you see?

And of course I would not have written that, such things did not come out of me, when I was say 22 years old. I am a better person at 44 simply because of my life experience, and the time it takes to grapple with the deep issues of life.

but ah, yes, to become a child once again WITH one's eyes wide open, that's a feat, for - "blessed are pure in heart for they shall see God."

If we don't have an all-inclusive abiding love for everyone, a hard fought love, which has wrestled itself from the depths of the human heart, and not without much suffering, what do we have to offer, of what use are we?

I remember my days in high school, we used to make wooden knives and Kung Fu Nunchaku sticks in wood shop! In metal shop we used to make kung fu stars. I can't begin to think what would happen today if they allowed students to have weapons like that in school.

I remember students breaking up fights in school hallways. Today kids see it as entertainment and feed off it. I see more young women getting in fights these days. The girls in our generation had more class and respect for themselves.

I read this thread this morning but didn't have time to post anything.

If the young people ruled the world, we all would surely be doomed.

I'm not that old (39) but I can tell you, my own personal experience has shown me that today's young people are really lazy. Most think they can just go to work and hang out all day sending text messages to their friends and get paid for it. Many haven't put in an honest days work in their lives and they walk around with this really crappy attitude like the world owes them a living or something.

They are DUMB! It's actually quit frightening how dumb they are. They think that they are so smart mastering the latest video game, multimedia or communication device , yet many know next to nothing about the world they live in. Just randomly ask a young adult any well known historical question and see what kind of answer you get. Don't bother getting them to write anything on paper, you most likely wouldn't be able to read it.

Today's young adults know next to nothing of our world or its history and are sadly lacking in any sort of useful skills. It is my opinion that they would and will make this world much worse. We should have hope when thinking about leaving this world to the youth of today, but sadly I don't hold much.

Okay, I will admit I am no longer young enough to know everything but... you aren't either.

well than, start educating the DUMB youth and try to help them understand...instead of just badmouthing them and seeing why we wont make good leaders etc...help the poor kid who posted eariler "the revolution starts now" thread here on ATS...instead of saying that we, the youth are stupid..most are but instead of not doing anything, get involved and work towards change or something..dont be a dick

damn, missed your age limit by four years, guess I'm too old *cry* but when you say youth, I really hope you don't mean the liberal college youth's who stand on the corner here in Chicago outside the college downtown and try to shove the eco crap in my face, I had to make one cry the other day when I proved him wrong and made him look dumb in front of his friends and the crowd who gathered to watch the debate his ignorant young mind thought I wouldn't OR didn't know how to bring. I mean no disrespect, I have two teenage boys myself. You don't even have to turn the electricity off, just take away their TV sets, their iPod's and the internet....I mean, only the Facebook and Youtube; they won't know what to do with themselves, for crying out loud. I have no answers, all I know is young people need to start understanding that education is extremely important and that the world doesn't revolve around them. Understanding a positive attitude, basic manners and respect is the hallmark for living in harmony. They need to understand that solving disputes with violence is taking a step backwards in human social progress in a civilized society. The need to stop imitating poor role models, and always questioning "what's in it for me?" Without good work ethics and motivation, the world as a whole will not prosper.

I've been meaning to reply to this but you know putting the 20 somethings through college and paying the bills by working a full-time job took precedence. You'll find that out someday. I'm good with your idea as long as I don't have to pay for two college educations and taxes anymore. Just take the money I work hard for and be on my merry way and you kids can have at it.

the city kids i guess....i dont know man, city kids make me laugh because i see tourists come around here in the summer and they hire guides to show them around the lakes and how to hunt and fish and all that crap, and these are the life skills that are taught to our children from elders, when SHTF whos gonna know what to to, kids around here that know how to hunt, trap, fish etc that are as young as 10 y.o or the college graduate of today?
