I wonder how many people who know about an even greater conflict in Chinese history, where we, during our own civil war, and other nations sent troops to save the Qing imperial dynasty.

Until World War 2, it was the most destructive war in world history, with over 30 million dead.

It was started by a man with delusions of messianic grandeur, claiming to be the brother of Christ, an antichrist if you will with an army of 3 million.

It is known as the Taiping Rebellion 1850-1864

An American commander, Fredrick Townsend Ward and his "Ever Victorious Army" saved Shanghai during the war.

After dying in battle, the Chinese built a Confucian shrine and temple devoted to Ward. He is possibly the only American ever worshipped in China as a god.

Oh they know this. Just that you have to know Chinese people are not revengeful or treacherous. They tend to not try to invade other people but keep to themselves, unlike the despicable and shameless west. The west is STILL doing the same thing as what they have been doing to other countries, like Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

The Chinese remembers the aftermath of the Boxer rebellion, so that's why you can see that most foreign companies have a hard time staying afloat there in China. They are peaceful and not use force to retaliate. In fact their people are all kind and all reserved. The brain washing media always shows the bad side of China or other countries that they try to discount.

I don't get why there isn't already a rebellion to overthrow this terrorist government, or whoever's behind it. Why not just shut down the damn banks that are causing so much agony and pain. Why not shut down and create a revolution of the stupid working society that deprives us of our happiness. I'm not saying that we shouldn't work, but i feel like the reason why we work the way we do, is because so that we can feed our corrupted government in its wrong doings.

Thanks for bringing up the real history. I don't think this "invasion" of China by foreign powers was any different than what happened to alot of South America and even today with middle Eastern countries in the latter half of the 20th Century. It's all about big business. The Chinese did the expected thing and forced the "invaders" out. Good for them. As far as not seeing it in history books, there' so much about history that isn't taught that you have to wonder if there is some kind of "epoch filter" that the people who write history books use to condense what they think is significant about history instead of just telling students just what happned and let them settle they're own hash about it. Proves the old "Military/Industrial complex" isn't just a U.S. invention and that it's been around a long, long time !

Wikipedia is a leftist website whose editors like to skew history. I read some of the articles they have about Cuba and every time I, or any other Cuban try to actually write what has been happening in Cuba it is erased.

The people at wikipedia just allow posts in their website what they want people to think, not the truth.

This happens in several topics, from AGW to politics and world history.

I wouldn't put much faith in what wikepedia has written, they just post what they want you to think happened, or is happening in history, nothing more, nothing less.

ALL kind and peaceful? Sorry i doubt anyone believes that. People from ALL creeds and cultures have good and bad people. And yes, our media can be bad and biased, but at least there is a measure of freedom. China has its own search engines that censor anything deemed politically dangerous. Religion is suppressed. Look at Fallon Gong. Google pulled out of China due to Western pressures because they were asked to willfully edit content from Chinese searches. Its repressive and against the human spirit.

And what happens when the good people of China rise up in protest? Tiannamen square style slaughter of innocents. Thats why they have not taken their country back. Hell, Chinese citizens have no say in their government whatsoever, and are denied the most basic of human rights, to vote.

I always find it interesting when threads come up like this, its always something like why isn't this war talked about or this rebellion? I had my high school U.S. History class last year and you can bet we talked about it. This war was also called the Rebellion of the Harmonious Fists, they were a group indeed to oppose foreign influence. The area that the 8 countries was interested in however was very little compared to the size of China. This grab for power was called the Sphere of Influence, the war happened sadly. The aftermath wasn't as bad though, the countries equaled out their land grabs in China. Quick pop quiz what Asian war happened in 1906?

It's snippets of history along these lines that make excellent semi-biographical movies. Pity something similar has been done with 'The Last Samurai' already, though if it was craftily composed it could be achieved in a very different style. I think I have a new project...


ETA - nearly forgot - to the OP; excellent prod in the ribs of our collective historical noodle! I am undecided on the legitimacy of the conflict as yet, but will enjoy learning more as I progress with the project.

Having gone to Catholic School as a kid, before the government got their hands in them, I always felt looking back, that I was taught a less jaded misconception of American history. Once again though, I was wrong. Funny how an event as big as this can be erased from history by years and years of manipulation through the educational system. Unfortunately for people like me, the text books I was given accounted for most of what I learned. Fortunately though, our youth now have access to much more information and knowledge at a rapid pace. Let's just hope they use that information wisely.

This is the first I have heard of the Boxer Rebellion! It was never taught to me in history class. That doesn't surprise me though. Pick up one of your kids history books in school and read it sometime, you might be surprised at what is and is not taught in school.
