MSM has failed most of us, for some ppl it has done exactly what it was meant to do.

The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of.

The mainstream media is a massive propaganda machine, people are so caught up in the twisted reality presented to them by FOX, CNN, BBC etc. that they have started to live their life on what is being said in the mainstream media. It's a psychological warfare, but we have to be careful about alternative media also.

Trust Common Sense.

Fact Check. Cross Reference. Ask Questions.

If you use your brain, you can determine fact from fiction 90% + of the time with ease.

You want the real truth. The internet is not the last hope. Just like all media sources there are nuggets among the goo but you have to look hard to see the leaves from trees. The internet in reality is no different! Just a different format. Same old same old!

I kind of disagree here.

In the MSM I have zero voice for my concerns about the society and ecology of our world.

On the Internet I have a voice and I can communicate with others. I have strength here and can affect the flow of information globally.

The Internet clearly is superior to me as a nobody-civilian. It means I am no longer a nobody with no voice and finally I can help other people and they can help me.

I hate to use this cliche phrase, but 'ignorance is bliss' and that's how the government wants us, deaf, dumb and blind. They know just how to keep the general pop. from asking questions that need to be asked, and now that the mainstream media is corrupted it'll just make things easier to be kept hidden. The problem now is helping people to wake up and realize that there are issues that they, we, aren't being told about. Hell, I don't even know where to find an honest news source anymore. I don't know if any of this made sense since I'm rambling and am sort of scatterbrained at the moment.

I have seven; ATS being the newest addition to my bookmarks, of alternative news.. and the more you dig into a story, the more new sites you discover..
The internet is our greatest tool to use in this fight for our minds.

I used to be a journalism major. Studying it killed my love of it. Having seen it, I fear the journalism of the future. The journalists being produced at journalism schools today are basically robots. They're being trained to spew forth propaganda.

In a media ethics course, we were taught that the ethics of the media organization you work for (as determined by the organization) take precedent over your own personal ethics. If you find a tactic employed by the organization to be unethical, too bad. Either play along, or good luck finding another job in journalism. You may not get fired immediately for questioning it. But don't press your luck, either.

The rise of citizen journalism has the MSM a little concerned. People can now get unedited first-hand news for free on the Internet. I don't know about it being our last hope, but it's certainly our most powerful weapon. It's capable of making the MSM obsolete.

There never were any "good ol' days", as long as there has been some medium for the transfer of information, then somebody has taken advantage of that to proliferate their own agenda.
The idea(rhetoric) about "the general pop" being "asleep" and others being "awake" is crass. A person will, by their nature, either be curious, intelligent, questioning etc.....or not. If they are not then it doesn't matter if they are "awake" or "asleep" they will believe whatever crap is fed to them. And this is what the real problem is. I know people who claim to be "awake" but some of the theories they espouse are nothing short of paranoid delusional fantasies, with no supporting evidence, and speculative in the extreme. But if you or I don't agree then we are "asleep" or in "denial".
To put it bluntly: a person is either smart or not.
The idea of people "waking up" ie. acquiring some kind of rational, objective perspective, on life, the world, TPTB, is naive and ridiculous.
As long as there is and has been "media" there have been, and will be, people who believe what they are told......as there have been, and will be, people who don't.

The beauty of the internet is that we get to express ourselves in public forum for all the world to hear. They cut off the internet in Egypt when the riots were going on because the internet helped organize it. Can't you see? The power of a billion voices is surging at the speed of light all around the world.

But there is that line between the digital world and our tangible reality, and that line is action. So-called groups like Anonymous are really just another way of talking about the power of the internet. The MSM is aware of this, that is why our opinions, the numerous investigations performed on ATS and other websites by private individuals have gone ignored or unnoticed.

The MSM is part of the virtual digital world, all stories being something pulled and paraphrased from the AP wire. We see the same recycled stories on all stations, websites, etc. They are just slanted differently. Investigative reporting is dead, unless you count our peers here on ATS.

It may sound off topic, but the MSM is also fuelled by the music industry which at their turn put in "pop" music as their weapon to influence the sheeple. I earn my living as a composer and I know quite some ins and outs from within the industry and I am fed up by people who keep up the appearance of knowing the best what people want to hear.
I said it so many times: no sir, it is you who decide what the people want to hear; you don't actually know what they want to hear.

In the 80s I started to take my first serious looks to music. For me it is very obvious to hear that the music from then to now has an decreased harmonic quality. You might want to call it "more effective" but this is actually part of the brainwash program they want to put on all of us in order to gain control.

Since a long time it isn't about the money any more. It is about the control of our will. Simple 4 chord (or less) songs are easily programmed into our memories. They know that. And with these we tend to stick to some of memories that are useful to them to hack us, throughout the best times of our lives. The know that, they do it and as long as we do not comprehend what they do they keep on doing that because it is easy! They do not like to think!!

So, I thought this topic was about that the Internet is our last hope and that the mainstream media has failed us. That is true, it is a corrupt system and fortunately more and more people acknowledge this. Don't give up on them yet... But! We have to get out! This forum will be corrupted too, probably. I know that they are very good in infiltrating fora like this :-( SO if you think that the Internet is our last hope..? They are going to win!

But I think they do not!!

We can still connect to people abroad; use twitter smartly to get the latest news from nearly everywhere; follow USGS + all other types of this kind and just know that You have NOTHING to loose!! The best thing would be an open source communication app and the will to popularize it. So no more faCIAebook, no more TFBItter, but something that is not driven by shareholders. I wouldn't know where to start for I am not a programmer, and most of the best programmers fall for big bucks and AAA class hookers) but it must be easy to tackle this. Although I know that there is still a need for a working network...

Is there anybody here on this board who has some handy abilities or connections? Maybe it is too far fetched, and I once again apologize for being slightly off topic but I felt the urge to respond for I felt it is ON topic. It is something that creeps in my mind too

When i fist got up this morning I checked my Facebook, (I know apparently its evil but it still acts as a useful tool in our arsenal not only that but i talk about movie's with IRL freinds) there was a story printed in the biggest news paper in Northern Ireland about how there was a mistake and the catholic church listed a mass for Osama on Sunday.

This was not the issue I had, the fact that I had a wall post from the paper explaning this to me instead of what really matters, so I put up a comment on their wall saying what i through of their operation and with much supprise I had support.

The links not working for facebook, if anyone is intered in my comments check out the Belfast telegraph on facebook. (Osama and mass)

Its a sad day when even the MSM can spew sh*te at you when you havent even purchased their paper. I wouldent mid so much if the topic had merit or was interactual but for some trivial sh*t like mass for Osama cancelled is not only a was of my time reading it but the paper its been printed on and the web space it holds.

A good point. However I do not believe that the evolution, or more fittingly, DE-volution of pop music is an intentional thing. And, I don't know where you live, but where I live musical tastes are as diverse as they ever were, in fact there seem to be more young people who are seriously into their music these days.
Mainstream pop music is mostly rubbish, like fast food, it can be tasty but as soon as you've eaten it you forget about it. And as I've stated earlier, people who don't use their heads won't use their heads, eg. if the radio played nothing but jazz do you think everybody would be into it? I don't think so.
No, mainstream music, IMO is a reflection of its audience.

Thank you for posting this. I agree with you 110%
I can't even watch the local news anymore because they just spit out the same crap the main stream media does. I love how they can have 20 min about Osama's death raid but only 3 min. on the flooding...2 min. about the tornado disasters and zippo on anything else that matters to the real people.
Thank God for ATS and all of you who take the time out to post meaningful headline news and other topics you can't find anywhere else!!!!

Holy Cow!!!! This has been the thing that has vexed me the most as of late. I finally have had enough of the MSM and the crapy line that has been fed to us by our leaders and so called authority figures.

I commented in a thread yesterday about the nuclear accident here in the U.S. www.abovetopsecret.com...

Anyway as I read through it sombody posted the links to CNN stories claiming that the MSM was reporting about this release of nuclear isotopes in Mississippi. Every link was a "fluff" piece about the flood water and NO MENTION ABOUT THEY BIG STORY! This poster actually belived he was getting the whole story from CNN... The worst offender (My opinion) of false reporting.

This person had the huevos to say that I did not know how the world works???? WOW!!!

Even on this site some people don't get it. The MSM is there to controll us! Not to inform us about what is really going on in the world.

This subject MAKE ME MAD AS HELL!!!!

I tend to look at the news sheeple, often like they have 10 heads as they are telling me the current events they've ingested by the infobabes on various agencies.

Its really funny, in a sick way though. They remind me of the people who watch sportscenter, but only when their team from the region they live In, either make the playoffs or someone from the team gets a DUI. Lol.

They prepare that morning, watch the same 15 min reel over the course of their morning routine, get a slight jist of what's goin on, maybe memorize a few stats, and voila! They're set to be the head honcho at the water cooler.

Now, they never fool me. Its usualy quite easy to spot these people. Although not much can be done in 15 minutes to enlighten them. That's why I'm making busines cards with useful alt. News sources, and hand them out like hotcakes to the sheeple who are left drueling.

If only people would follow the sheppard.....

I have actually found this to be a good thing!

I use the MSM as a BS Detector now. More times than not, if I read something on sites like ATS and NOT see it on say, CNN, I know where the truth lies.

It helps me to understand what lies are being fed to us and leads me to ask...WHY?

If I see 5 Alternative News Sites saying the same thing and I tune into the MSM to find no mention of it, I then know what lie is being forced upon us and can now delve into the WHY of it.

Just my approach but it's kind of like knowing the truth without being told.

Hope I explained this right...
