Yeah I don't buy in to it any more than you do, I thought it was a fun hypothetical though; I'd never seen anyone mention it.

Reading these posts you coulod be forgiven for believing that Planet X was a discovered 10th planet that was definitely headed our way, phrases like "the speed it is travelling at.." "this time it will be closer to earth..." "it will be close enough to the sun to scorch it's surface...." have no place on these boards. We do not know for sure if there is a Planet X out there and until someone proves it this is all just fantasy.

this thread is about the hypothetical exsistence of 'planet X' and its inhabitants. no one said for a fact that it even exists, truthfully there is no way of knowing for sure.

I think you will discover that they look a great deal like we do, only taller. After all, they made us "in their own image" after all. Why shouldn't we look like them?

It would have to have some sort of effect for the folks on planet x. If it's going to pass that close to us, other planets, the sun, it has to do something to that planet. Now maybe everybody just hangs out underground to avoid being wiped out, who knows (really thinking about how they would survive is kind of pointless seeing that we don't know any capabilies they have, that's just the first thing to come to me...not saying it would work. Maybe they have some crazy shield or something). But I just can't buy the notion that nothing would happen to the life on that planet if it was on this path.

So, if we were to look at this from their point of view, im sure there are a few of these aliens ranting on a conspiracy forum about how they are going to pass over Earth in (insert Alien measurement of time) and no one is believing them.

If there truly was a planet x and it just happened to be inhabited, i believe its inhabitants could possibly exist in a non physical realm, it could be on a spiritual level. It could even be heaven!

Or they could be underground, in a controlled environment...
Maybe WE are the only species that lives on a planets surface..

Or it could be a giant space ship equipped with a cloaking device that makes it resemble a planet by any observers.

Or it could be some giant inter-galactic advertising balloon that broke free from its tethers and wandered into our system

Just joking

Since this supposed Planet X is going to pass by us in a few months, where is it exactly located at this moment, by Neptune ? I cant imagine any of the other planets not being affected in a serious way except just us. In which case, im sure we would be seeing some sort of disruption in outer space.

I've wondered that myself. I keep hearing about this, and I would think that something would be visible by now...maybe not by the naked eye yet, but telescope for sure. Something that big would be noticable by now I would think. Maybe on planet x, they are trying to debunk the whole 2012 thing too....or their version of it.

Great theory, but what would it be advertising?
Budget return trips to earth!

So if the planet is twice the size of Jupiter, could the massive size of the body mean that there would be certain areas that would be less affected (much less)?

There is a way to know for sure. The orbital properties you've assigned to the planet such as it entering every 240,000 years on a highly elliptical is not stable. A planet as large as you've suggested, 2x Jupiter, would have been spotted by Earth based telescopes when it was well over 50X the distance to Jupiter. Such a planet would have affected the movements of the known planets already. That has not happened.

It's rather clear that no such planet exists.

It should be pointed out that there is little evidence to connect the Moon with earthquakes. The Sun is not associated with any earthquakes. No other celestial body is associated with earthquakes.

So why would a fantasy planet have adverse gravitational effects on Earth or vice versa?

I do think that the OP has an interesting point of view.
