You are right and I can tell you that about a month ago my husband and I were going down the road and boiling up out of a ditch was a cloud of what I will call dust... it wasn't blowing out of the fields, it was coming out of a weed and grass covered ditch, my husband commented " must be a sand boil".... true story!

Evol-Yes, your definition is correct as pertains to EQ's. My definition pertains to levees and floods, which is the current situation. Yes, ATS is a "conspiracy site" , but not everything has to be a conspiracy. Get out tomorrow, leave your house and go to a levee where C of E people are and ask them. They will assure you that "sand boils" near levees are not EQ related.

that is not a good sign...
That is proof that these sand boils aren't water related, right?

Susan, I've looked and I can't find a number. The St. Louis District CoE Facebook page has the most comprehensive info. The are advising all in the St. Francis River WaterShed to be vigilant. It is still spilling 29,000csf, and HAS crested. The water is diverting due to plan, but the amount of water in the St. Francis has at least 10 homes under water. That's about all I can find out. Other than my Dad being really upset about the crappie population.

I don't live near any Levee's
the nearest CoE Station is too far away...

Anyways thanks for your additions to this thread.
I value them very much!

Please continue to join the discussion and keep us updated with anything you can find

I can't say as I am no geologist, but I can tell you that it was before all of this flooding started. I had never seen anything like it , as from a distance, I was sure it was just blowing off the field, but it wasn't.... it was eerie to be honest.

Let me say this too, I keep seeing things like well thats what people get for building in a flood prone area and blah blah blah... we have to build somewhere right? Be it flood area, fault line, in the range of volcanoes, tornado alley, forrest fire prone areas, blizzard and avalanche or mudslide prone areas... come one... nowhere is safe! Just had to throw that out there!

Maybe it's a preemptive effort to devalue property and buy it up wholesale for the Nasco Corridor???
check out the map.

Thanks for posting that... I had actually forgot about that...

but isnt that NASCO international highway supposed to be west of the Mississippi?
looks that way on the map...

but it wouldn't surprise me if that was the plan...

but then again when they built a new high way through here...

They told people what their house was worth, what "they" would pay for, and toaccept the cash and get out by this time... or face criminal charges and jail time...

cos that high way was going to be built, no matter who liked it or not...

I think they wouldnt care for land value... cos "they" bought several 100,000 dollar homes here for 20,000

sucks!

Sand boils that are levee/flood related, do not always occur right by the levee. I'vve seen some in corn/soybean fields a mile away or more. The ground is just so saturated with water that they can spring up distances from the levees. I'd drive down there to where you live and me and you could go find some of these boils Evol, but don't have the time for the next few days. I gotta go to some local poker tourneys since the Government shut down the internet poker sites......my only source of income at the present time, Maybe next week if you're still worried about this, I'll make the trip.

Yeah, it is more to the west, but that was a concept map, so it may be subject to change.
IDK.

...like I said above... I do not live near any levee's

I live about 300+ miles from the Birds Point Levee

I appreciate the sentiment...

But no thanks... I don't trust strangers... much less jump into the car with someone I don't know...

EDIT:

I am not worried about them... I was just posting information about them

This is starting to freak me out. I live just over the cairo bridge on the Ky side... the maps all show my town gone! Its been raining again for two solid days and two more to come... 5 more inches possible. My husband is out of a job due to the flooding and there is no end in sight. We are over 400 ft above sea level in my town... is that gonna matter?

I do not want to promote "fear mongering"
only awareness!

First off...
I am sorry for your husbands luck with his job, due to the weather!
That sucks!!

secondly, try to be as calm as possible...
key your eye out, have some sort of plan
"just in case"

Remember being calm is important!
being scared and stressed, will hinder clear thinking...
and in any situation, clear thinking might mean a matter of safety!

I'm not sure on the elevation issue...
but keep your ears and eyes out for rising water and alerts!
Knowledge is power!

Get out of here dude.

This is classic fear lover's delight, served warm and hot on a plate.

Can't get over a double dip of "this is possible and scary, so we must prepare ourselves!!!!!!!!!"

Sensationalism is so rampant on this site that people who pledge not to do it would never know it if it hit them in the face.

Knowledge is NOT power as evidenced by the fact that any dummy who does not do anything with the knowledge he or she has is just as bad off as anyone else.

Let's face it that most people on this site are so chock full of a very long list of things that could potentially be the next "big thing" that they end up doing nothing!

Long ago, it was Bush and the supposed camps he was building. People swore we would never see the next president because he made the Patriot Act.

It's never-ending story of potential doom and gloom followed by an even longer list of reasons why it's so important.

I for one have to admit I have had enough of this never-ending negativity and explosive armageddon-ism. It's like people get off on this stuff while at the same time denouncing it, like a child that would rather negative attention than none at all.

Are some of you so desperate for excitement that you will do this to yourselves and spread it? I would not watch the local news as most of it is the same old bad news, and it seems I will have to put ATS in the same category. So many members here seem like mini little Alex Jones wannabes...all "doing their best to report the news" while not seeing the other dark side of this.

Consume yourselves with negativity and live your lives in fear........or turn off ATS.

I'm not getting worked up here

I am just posting information on here
that one can easily find by using google and typing 'Sand Boils'

Even by the USGS definition
Sand Boils are EQ Related

A sand boil is sand and water that come out onto the ground surface during an earthquake as a result of liquefaction at shallow depth.

I don't mean to scare anyone...
But i'm not dredging up anything that is not already being said, or already out there

And we have your information to counter act my information...

so there is point and counter point...

Me and you are doing team work here

I am backing you up... everything I have found says sand boils are signs of seismic activity which worries me,
