Did Superman not come from the planet Krypton? If so he never was a US citizen.
His earthly disguise as Clark Kent was just a cover to allow him to stay undetected.
So it would have to be Clark Kent who'd renounce US citizenship, but as Clark Kent is not a real person anyway, the storyline is rubbish from start to finish.

A distraction from what exactly? Another thread on Obama's BC or the royal wedding?

Comic books themselves are a distraction as are any form of entertainment. A chance to escape reality.

They can also be a format for intricate ideas to be expressed and discussed upon. Sure it's good to be informed about the multitude of threats we're constantly under, (globalism, natural disaster, collapsing economy, nuclear fallout, pick your poison) but sometimes it's alright to sit back, crack a brew, and flip through a copy of X-MEN.

You've got to be able to enjoy the little things and live life while you can.
