I wonder what a more advanced species will do when they come along to study us? Wipe us out and then study us. This is both amazing a quite sad, there has to be ground radar, infered or some technology where this could have been done without the killing of the entire colony.

The anthill was deserted for a long time there were no ants killed i dont know why they choose cement over ground radar maybe they didnt have that kind of equipment to do this at the time..but there was no mass murder to the ants and thanks for your reply ~~

the ant farmer noticed that his ants adapted to their enviroment.. we can't, we destroy our enviroments (strip mining.. deforestation etc).
Ants communicate using pheromones we depend on devices created by ourselves.
Ants are far 'higher' than us..
perhaps we don't belong here (?)

believer74 i dont know how to answer all that but its food for thought
and i agree we do destroy alot of our enviroment the ants could teach us alot about ourselfs thank you for replying

Thanks very much for posting this video, I watched it with my wife and daughter and we all found it fascinating.

Such a great combined intelligence at work and very artistic to look at, we've got at an ants nest under our house, and I admit, we've used all sorts of nasty stuff to try and get rid of them over the years but they ain't budging. Most ant killers seem to have the same active ingredient, Permetherineor something similar it's called, I think the ant's are immune to it though.

I've got to admit after watching this I feel a bit guilty, maybe the reason they won't budge is because they have a similar complex system under my dwelling. They don't show through the winter but there's a lot outside in the summer, we only get the odd few in the house though and only in summer.

Im happy you and your wife and daughter enjoyed the video..I gave up trying to rid my yard of ants a long time ago they dont seem to budge they just rebuilt and yes they seem to like Permetherine thats in most bug killers ..Ive got the same thing going they arent around in the winter the snow covers the hills up but in the summer there everywere they tear up my yard but after watching the video the yard is theres i feel guilty also
thanks for your reply!

totally insane, im not an ant person in any aspect, ive killed many on a sidewalk. to think that they are capable of that - the magnatude - is amazing....... and the length of time it took to ecavate it, equally insane. i wonder what is to become of the cement metropolis?

SAVE THE ANTS!!!!
Just kidding...sort of. I hate ants! I will come out and say it, I squash those suckers the second I see them enter my house. But, to see something as amazing as this destroyed for curiosity sake, does bother me. I mean $h1t the whole video they are talking about how it is, "Truly a natural wonder," while you watch them pour concrete, right down their gullet.

At the end of the day though....they are ants. And what do we do to ants??? Squash them!!!!

#!!! I need to stop watching tv

I'd have to disagree with this commentor. Some humans (though a great many of us) destroy our environments, much like parasites do. However, there are many humans who have throughout history fallen comfortably into their surroundings and not destroyed them. Sadly modern humans are more destructive than they are at peace with their surroundings --but that doesn't mean we've always been this way. There are still countless tribes who still live comfortably within their land adding to it and not taking away from it. It's a matter of what portion of our species you look at.

This was a wonderfully interesting post, by the way. I was concerned at first that they'd killed off the colony to research it. To destroy something that complex just for the sake of curiosity really would make one wonder what other civilizations might want to do to us if they happened upon us. I'm an ant person, and use my fascination with them to terrorize my mate all the time (he is very anti-ant). This was great

why do you think they would ever compete with us? i cannot stop wondering why some of us act like in a war zone on this planet! im sure they had an unhappy childhood or sth but get over it!..if you are not able to love and respect this planet(ants included
) you shouldnt be allowed to live here..try Mars! ..

There is many tribes out there that dont destroy there their surroundings thanks for reminding me of that they live on the land and onley take what they need so yes it hasnt always been that way ..I was also concerned that we came in and destroyed this hive but that wasnt the case i was happy for that
Thats funny what you do with your mate i bet they get mad haha..thanks for your reply~~
