NASA has been lying for years....or at least making a very sugar coated case for everything. This is definitely suspicious on many levels....but with everything thats happening it could just be one small piece to the amazing puzzle of something larger that could be happening.

I would go with a camera malfunction, a slip of the top bit of the shield.
Else, the whole solar system would be lit up like a candle at this point considering the effect its given..looks like a lobsided supernova..

and since we are still here, and the news from the sunny part of the world isn't flipping out about a giant explosion seen across the world...then the reasonable answer is the lens shield slipped down a tiny bit exposing the top bit of the sun

opinion based on simply viewing it..no professional expertise..

This is interesting. Go to following SOHO site:

Now, select "LASCO C3" and in the Start/End Date's Box, enter:

2011-04-22 - 2011-04-22

Now find the find the following time: 10:06

Why is there no images between 10:06-18:11??


That makes for a total of 8 hours unaccounted for or MISSING???

Seems something may have possible crashed into sun and that is now why latest pictures show half of it intensely bright.

If you look at the video, then its clear we're all in for trouble.
Don't think it's a camera malfunction, doesn't look line it.

Some of this event, not all though, looks earth directed. Good news is that an earth directed CME isn't going to kill us all. Yay.
