Crap! I caused global disasters, economic meltdowns, and the days are longer! Well that's what supposedly happens with anything bigger than 1000000 miles! Great site. My dad went to Purdue

Thanks for the link Pred!! Really cool site...I've been playing around with it too and all I have to say is that if we ever get hit by a 5 kilometer hunk of rock I can only hope that it's over in Pakistan or something....

Sorry Pakistan!

The program kinda sucks, it downplays everything. I programmed the worst case scenario and it was basically like, meh nothing significant....

Nah no worries the moon just smashed into the earth, no biggie.

I programed in a 10 km iron asteroid hitting in 10000 foot of water.

The tsunami was 565 meters high(1850 feet)

basically if it hit in the northern pacific between Calif and japan Calif would become a republican state overnight.

Since most of the democrats live in the big cities of Calif and they would all be wiped out.

Hawaii and most of the other islands would be gone.

Japan would have no reactors they would be wiped clean.

The tsunami would go over LA Calif and stop about Palm Springs Calif.

Even Bakersfield Calif would be wiped out by the wave that came through San Francisco Calif

The wind hitting calif based on a impact 2500 mile away would max out at 304 mph
Peak over pressure 10.4 psi

6 miles hey? Wow, sounds less damaging than the one that took out the dinosaurs though, and it is roughly the same size.

Although that sounds terrifying I always thought the dinosaur one was apocalyptic. Although the program doesn't tell us that the sky would be dark for a couple of years/decades.

Thanks for the info buddy.

Here I found a more comprehensive impact calculator also by Purdue that extends its data to the atmospheric and long term effects, (I knew I saw this somewhere), without the bells and whistles.
