There was a previous thread on here about this coming online and now it is here so I thought it deserved its own thread.

I have been playing with it for a while now, and thought I would share the fun. Although it can be fun as it is all a simulation it actually shows what an asteroid can do to our world and shows how much more money we should be investing in monitoring these events.

Brilliant program anyways, enjoy!!

very cool website. Thanks for sharing the link. I've already run a couple simulations. I like how it gives you alot of details and data to analyze. S&F

PEOPLE! before you comment do yourself a favour and ask for a link to the evidence of this!

the link to the website is right there in the OP - www.purdue.edu...
interesting subject matter for a simulation - lots of mathematics.
I like the 'distance from impact' intrinsic, not something the lay person is likely to know tho I guess.
S+F for the find.

Maybe roughycannon thought it was a real asteroid warning.?

Why would you want to attack anybody's thread? Never mind, don't answer that, we already know.

Where's that thread about how ATS membership numbers are exploding recently, I want to make a good point about qualitative and quantatative differences, I think I will link back to your post for a prime example of my point.

If I had to guess I would say he is on a personal crusade to debunk/attack(?) any thread that has anything to do with a comet hitting earth. He just briefly looked over the title of the thread saw his major keywords "Asteroid" "Impact" and "Comet" and assumed its another of those threads so he moved in to save the day
I guess reading the OP or the whole title for that matter was "unnecessary"

I don't know , I tried to plot in the dimensions of Elenin and it told me the impact will not do to much damage to our blue ball
That being said I took the dimensions somewhere off the goggle search so they might have been wrong

Well maybe he should have read better, the title itself says simulation.

I do not understand what there was to be worked up about there was nothing about an actual impact.

I agree, it does take quite a bug rock to hurt our blue planet. Hell we were hit by an object the size of mars before and were are the only planet sustaining life right now (or so we think.) So I'm pretty happy that our planet is so tough.

Yes I've been linking this to all the doom and gloom comet threads for quite sometime now. May have stumbled on this over a year ago but I'm not satisfied with the amount of data it provides, and I've seen the pattern of 'impact' data grouped in scales, where the answer to things don't change until you breach a threshold. So to me it's a base of form calculations and the input you provide draws the highest in that group.

I also don't like that I have to put my distance from the impact to get data. Why not just give me the damage, no matter where I happen to be?

There is also a nuclear bomb site like this I never bookmarked, but it's much the same form letter kind of thing.

You see with an impact, I would be more interested to know what kind of atmospheric fallout would occur, like would the sun be blocked to kill plant life? Would a 'nuclear winter' happen, and for how long, things like that. So this is purely a college math impact debris homework assignment. It just doesn't give me enough information for me about the impact ramifications on life. We know the earth will just move along and survive (unless obliterated), but that doesn't say much about me.
