I've always though that THEY could watch you through your web cam if they wanted. I put electrical tape over the camera and the microphone on my laptop. Can't watch me now HA!! But then again I there could be cameras and microphones everywhere, new TV's, Wii, Xbox Kinect, iPad, etc....

i just tried it and i never knew the setting existed either...and mine was set to deny...so i dont think that allow is the default

Couldn't they change the settings back and forth on their end to ?

No it doesn't work like that. If there is a request to change the setting it will ask you to approve it afaik

I didn't even know about this until a minute ago but when I tried it, mine's set to Deny by default
