WHITE CITY, Ore. — Cynthia Willis calls up and down the firing range to be sure everyone knows she is shooting, squares up in a two-handed stance with her Walther P-22 automatic pistol and fires off a clip in rapid succession. Willis is not only packing a concealed handgun permit in her wallet, she also has a medical marijuana card. That combination has led the local sheriff to try to take her gun permit away.

www.huffingtonpost.com...

This really chaps my behind. Just because she has a medical marijuana card the Sheriff took her concealed weapons license. The Sheriff cites a 1968 U.S. Gun Control Act prohibits selling firearms to drug addicts. I think it is bull crap they can consider her an addict because she has a MMC. There is more from Fox news on it here. Another attack on our freedoms as far as I'm concerned.
So ATS what do you think?

While I disagree with what the sheriff has done, I know why he did it. He has to protect his department, and Federal laws being what they are, mean he gets in hot water when and if the permit is pulled.

I hate these draconian laws, and look forward to a time when proper actions are taken to repeal them. Until the lobbyists can spend as much as big pharma in DC, Marijuana will remain Federally illegal.

They probably fear they will shoot back when the feds kick in their door to take their plants away. I certainly would.

That is bs they sell guns to drunks where I'm at now.

Marijuana makes some focus more intently then others but if this law is passed for marijuana users they need to pass one on alcoholics also.

Just another way to chisel away at our right to bear arms.

By their way of thinking, the more people they can disarm, the better.

Another problem that anyone with a MMC card has to worry about is that if you have a gun in your home, legal or not, if they were to come in to your home and find your MEDICAL marijuana AND a gun in the same room, they have been known to slap TRAFFICKING charges on those people. It is absolutely ridiculous... I have gold in my house and can protect that with a gun.... I have 10 prescriptions for narcotics that I can protect with a gun in my home.... but heaven and hell be damned if I have a plant that has never killed anyone in recorded history in the same room with something that has killed more people than the plague.

I can't wait for this corrupt system to implode on the designers of it... what a glorious day that will be.

Thats exactly it. They mention in the video from Fox they aren't going to take someones gun permit away if they have a prescription for Oxycontin.

Well you AREN'T allowed to carry a gun if you are under the influence of alcohol. Which I would think would be a fair law for marijuana, too. BUT, just having a medical card should NOT be enough reason to revoke a concealed pistol license.

Just because they take your ccw card away doesn't mean you can't carry on your own property any which way you see fit to protect yourself from intruders with weapons coming to do you harm and kill if nescesary. The ATF or LE have the right to kill if nescesary so in extention they will be coming to her house with the intent that they can kill if nescessary to subdue the person in question. with that being said she has the god given right higher than man's law to defend life liberty and the pursuit to happiness. By them kicking in her door with intent to impede her god given rights to liberty and possibly kill if needed, she has the god given right to defend herself from man made tyranny. Nobody can grant a right, you either have it by grand design of the creator or you don't have it.

It's our Constitutional right as United States citizens under the 2nd and 14th(Section 1) Amendments to our freedom of both. This really peeves me I really hope that she gets a lot of positive attention. Ron Paul 2012!!!

This all started when authorities barred MMJ patient Steve Sarich from buying guns after a shootout in his home. They got the idea that they can make this decision based on the federal law still considering patients "Illegal Narcotics Abusers" because it is still illegal on a federal level.

No guns for Wash. pot activist

For every law they pass to take gun rights away from more people, that's just that many more criminals that are instantly created.

Some people may not like hearing that, but it's the truth. Our 2nd amendment really exists to protect citizens from the long arm of the government, and no number of laws is going to change that.

You know what she should have done? Shot him. I don't know if I would put up with some ignorant, judgmental cop trying to infringe on my constitutional rights because he is uncomfortable with medical cannabis users NOT being treated like second class citizens. I bet this **** goes home and drinks a fifth of Jack Daniels after smoking a few cigarettes on the drive home in his gas guzzling pickup truck.

I'm more worried about drunk people with guns than people high on marijuana with guns..
And this issue seems to come up quite a bit in Oregon. I'm guessing this will probably be over turned. Unfortunately Sheriff's here sometimes overstep what their boundaries really are.. And as this is a must issue state, their discretion is not a factor when no crimes have been committed.

Same dude, it's not like stoners just walk around looking for trouble when their high, I can't say the same for many drunks. But hey, Sheriff McDip**** is the LAW around here, he knows whats best with his high school education and shiny piece of metal pinned to his shirt.

"REEFER IS THE DEVILS HERB! It makes you incurably insane! Smoke it and you'll murder your family with an axe, I tell ya! Those dope fiends are always out committing crimes while hopped up, trying to get more dirty money to feed their addiction! They don't deserve rights, they are scum; the absolute bottom rung of society."

I'd think the statute must clearly define a "drug addict", and that any good lawyer will argue that the US Constitution overrides the local law. Because it's Constitutional in nature, she could argue this all the way to the top.

Also..

This idea of medical marijuana users as stoners is a complete falsehood in large part. Sure, there are exceptions, but many medical marijuana users were previously on much more addictive (and narcotic) prescribed drugs that did less for their condition.

My wife has to take some serious narcotics (legally prescribed) just to get up, go to work, and function due to many medical maladies. Without them, she wouldn't be able to move from the bed without horrible pain. With them, she can be a functioning member of society. Consider such folks, when you think about this topic.
