I wonder if I send out a few letters saying I am some terror organization and going to do something mega huge, there would be tons of ATSers blaming the government right from the get-go.

Its retarded to believe that the government's hands are clean and they are never at fault, but its equally as retarded to blame everything on them and that nothing is just as it seems.

My opinion on this...I would have tossed the letters out with the rest of the nonsense spam...the nigerian prince wanting to give me 100 million dollars if I send him 5k has more credibility in my book.

Yeah exactly why wouldn't they have been detonated by now? Name any enemy of ours and tell me that there isn't a time in the recent past that would have been perfect for them to detonate them? Cause something liek that is offensive not defensive. They aren't going to plant bombs here and wait until they are defending themselves to detonate them?

The United States population is currently 307,006,550. The chances Of there being at least more one or more terrorist cells currently planning to carry out such attacks is likely.. No matter how smart the government is there are still individuals who work alone which enables them a higher chance of succesfully preparing for such attacks and they are usually funded by terrorist groups who can provide the money or the means to acquire the necessary materials for actually building and atomic bomb. I would assume that if these threats are true that they will more than likely attempt to attack a major city such as NY. I think that everyone who is reading this should make sure that everyone they know is keeping an eye on their neighbors, because times are hard. I am one myself who is prepared for armageddon.

If nothing happens tomorrow I'm tossing this to the back of my mind as the rubbish I originally thought it was. I hope nobody has a sick April Fools prank for us!

In the hypothetical situation of this not being a hoax and I was the perpetrator, I'd be more than a bit annoyed that I wasn't being taken seriously, and actually tell the authorities where one of the bombs was. After all, if you show them one, they'll assume the other 159 are real. If you were really devious, you'd plant only a handful and leave them to panic finding all the ones they've "missed."

A dirty bomb would be very difficult to smuggle into the country, or to any decent target site. There are radiation monitoring points everywhere, and mobile units that patrol. I have first hand knowledge of this.

The final weapons/devices are radiation shielded to prevent premature detonation, those radiation monitors might be abe to detect raw materials, but your confidence in their abilitiy to detect a final product is probably overestimated IMO.

If a person had any contact with anything that was anywhere near any of the components at any time in the last few thousand years.............it would be detectable.

The mobile units can detect radiation from a nuclear stress test, in a heart patient, driving down an interstate, while the unit is parked in a rest stop.

I'm pretty sure it can detect a dirty bomb, and that is just the mobile units. The fixed units are much more sensitive!!

Sorry but I just have a really hard time sharing your level of confidence in our national security and I don't think I need to post the statistics to make that point here. Hell even our International Airports contract their security software out to former MOSSAD and IDF bozos (Suspect Detection Systems) and I don't even want to get started on the Ports contracting their security out to Saudi Arabia(?) or the Rio Grande debacle. Sure those mobile detection units are nifty, but the the continental US spans 3.7 million square miles and these guys can't find two black boxes in a pile of rubble in NYC or put so much as a dent in 'BC bud' or the estimated 5 million illegal immigrants said to be costing us 113 billion a year?

And like I said before, we aren't talking about a pile of raw Uranium or a barrel of yellow cake here, an actual armed and functional nuclear device is shielded and it's not to far to stretch an imagination to design such a device to avoid detection, lead's cheap and suit case nukes are a reality. How many mobile and or stationary units does it take to continually monitor nearly 4 million square miles of real estate, and how many 'art students' can just dance around them as they like? I'm not being facetious here, that just doesn't even sound realistic to me.
I'm not trying to lend any credence to this threat or cause any unrest, but there's hostile elements even in our own intelligence networks and frankly, our borders are a joke.

I share your skepticism.

Maybe I should say, the authorities are capable of detecting even the slightest bit of radioactivity, and there are procedures in place to stop just about everything..........willingness is another story.

Yes, I have a hard time trusting as well. I think if they wanted to stop someone, it would be almost impossible to sneak something in, or transport something on our roads, but all too often there are political benefits to letting something sneak by, and having the perfect patsy to blame for it.

My confidence is in the equipment, definitely not in the people.

People keep discussing the difficulty / ease of devices being smuggled into the States, yet IF there's any truth in their existance, my bet's on them having been manufactured there in the first place.

Would it be possible to place a small nuclear device inside a building and leave it there, without setting it off right away? The letter claimed they were pre-placed. Terrorists went all around the country putting these devices in places, then walking away, until they have them all placed so they can be detonated on whatever schedule the plot called for? Our security can be lax at times, we all know that, but lax enough to leave all these devices sitting around? The terrorists wouldnt be nervous about some of them being found before their plan was all in place? One or a couple devices I might believe, which would be a tragedy enough. But not over 100 of them. If they actually succeeded with even one of them, and set it off soon, well, they got us. I just have a hard time believing it could be done, with our radiation detectors.

I agree completely, especially when one bears in mind the large effort undertaken to track and publicise the (totally harmless) fallout radiation from Fukushima. I daresay a nuclear warhead stashed somewhere would be much more noticeable than residual fallout from a nuclear accident thousands of miles away.

This is a hoax and completely retarded besides. El Queda can't detonate a pair of shoes or someone's underwear, but they have built, bought or stolen 160 nuclear bombs and placed them all over the country? Riiiiiiiight.

There is no such things as a "suitcase nuke." The smallest nuke in the world is the size of a small refrigerator.

The story I read is that MS-13 smuggled the bombs up from Mexico-why would they do this, since Hispanics are the majority in many cities in the U.S.? They would be killing their own people on a massive scale. La Raza has too much nationalism for that.

All I,can say,I,hope not for our sakes, but at the same time, anything is possible.,They got planes to hit our towers,so......anything can happen. we better pray for Gods help to protect us. People do hate us and ISRAEL. I,hope again ,to say I,hope not,not here......Look also what is happening in az,texas, and so on....We have a lot of wars and we don't know who to trust. As i,see it Israel is our only true ally......Very true,it does take money, but the middle east has money, and hates us. Stay safe AMERICA...I.will pray. For along time,I,have heard we have sleepers here already in USA. I,just don't know. The media everyday is giving us so much of bad news.Things that are told in revelation, that must come to pass, then Jesus will come.

The smallest officialy developed warhead is nicknamed the Davy Crocket, and weighs just 23 kilograms, or 51lb. I do not know what physical volume the weapon is contained within, but one assumes that at that pathetic weight, it could be carried in one hand by a sufficiently strong individual, if a container were built with a carry handle. I base this assertion on the knowledge that a friend of mine does bicep curls with thirty kg without breaking a sweat, and he is not a particularly large or ripped fellow.

en.wikipedia.org...

However, we have technology now, which can detect the emission of just ONE particle from a decaying radioactive source. A light weight weapon (in terms of both its yeild and physical weight) is unlikely to be sheilded well enough that modern detection methods would miss it, were one sitting around minding its own business. The sort of monitoring equipment that was used at the Fukushima plant, and across Japan to observe the levels of radiation there may not be as good for detecting the specific patterns of radioactive effluent given off by a weapon, as opposed to a leak. But if it can be done, one must assume that the NSA and CIA have methods which would make obvious the presence of any nuclear weapons, based on thier emitting patterns.

I fail to see how it can be , that a massive number of nuclear weapons (especialy homebrewed jobs, which will likely as not feature next to NO decent rad shielding ,due to cost issues, wieght and transport issues, and technical expertise and logistics) have been planted on the soil of one of the most paranoid and xenophobic nations currently on this planet without detection.
