Does it not seem odd that people say you could never get "X" quantity of anything into the USA, but the government itself has abandoned portions of the border because they consider them "too dangerous" for our folks, civilian or otherwise to enter these areas? How difficult would it be if they have found tunnels you can drive pick-up trucks through under the border?, How much stuff comes in on "fishing boats"? I would say that if there WAS a coordinated effort to deliver some sort of dirty bombs into the CONUS regions, there really shouldn't be that much of an issue doing it, especially if your backers have deep (Oil Money) pockets !

I dont believe the majority of the people here believe it is a legitimate threat made by Islamic Terrorists and I dont believe that you get the point, that it doesnt matter who wrote them.

Its what the Government does in response to them that matters. Since 2001, they have used every opportunity that becomes available to take advantage of situations in order to take away rights, bits and pieces at a time.

This BS here, will just be another catalyst for another bit and piece.

Someone probably could get a nuke off some high end black market.

However, using it world be rather difficult.

Remember the anthrax letter? It was like a 10 year old handwriting also.

Could there be connections to this?

Seems like something is going to happen but what could that be? Maye TPTB is in motion to cause a disaster..

Now why is it that you believe an individual or organisation which has the money and contacts to get its hands on a nuclear device, wouldnt also have the money and contacts to be able to figure out how to activate it?

No way any organization outside of US, Russia, and China has 160 "Nuclear" bombs. The article says the letters are likely hoaxes, but even if they were real, we would be talking about dirty bombs, not nuclear bombs. 160 dirty bombs would be a huge inconvenience, and it would cause some deaths, but it would not bring down the country. Dirty bombs would kill a few people in each location, and disrupt normal lifestyles and commerce. The biggest damage would probably be economical damage!

Anyhow, I don't think there is anything to fear from this. I can say my office has received no notifications or any special instructions to take precautions, apparently the letters in Florida aren't being taken too seriously so far.

I'm thinking this is a hoax/prank, or an amateur attempt to extort some money.

I haven't signed in weeks but I had to reply to this post:

A dirty bomb could (and would) eliminated thousands of lives in each city. Let's say you set one off...in NYC. Thousands die, and the city is now a radioactive dump. Citizens move out because who wants to suffer from radiation? NYC itself then dies out.

Have a dirty bomb in NYC, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, LA, San Fran, Seattle, Houston. That's enough to damage to bring this country down to its knees, if you ask me. All those cities would be abandoned and city folk would be forced to move elsewhere. These weapons are more destructive than you think.

It's very easy to smuggle dirty bombs into this country and its highly possible it's already been done. Not trying to spread any fear mongering here, just stating the possible reality we might face sometime in the future.

I entirely disagree. No offense, but your scenario requires a sophisticated explosion, at some altitude above the city, not a typical "dirty bomb."

A dirty bomb would be very difficult to smuggle into the country, or to any decent target site. There are radiation monitoring points everywhere, and mobile units that patrol. I have first hand knowledge of this.

If they did get the bomb somewhere, the explosive would probably be crude, and it would have to be hidden, so initial damage would be confined to a few buildings, or a city block. Think something along the lines of Oklahoma City, but probably smaller. It is doubtful that it would instantly kill more than a few dozen people.

The radiation would only affect the small immediate area also. It would be immediately detected, precautions, treatments, and evacuations would ensue. There would be some additional deaths, and some illnesses, but they would probably not be massive in nature. The radiation would quickly subside, be washed away by rainwater, etc., etc. We are not talking Hiroshima or Chernobyl here. The damage would be relatively minor.

No, the true damage from an act like this would be the disruption to normal commerce, panic, fear, etc. Exaggeration in the media, over-reaction by the government, etc., etc. It is the perfect terrorist weapon, because that is exactly what it would create.....terror. With the country in the current state it is in, the damage to the economy, morale, and politics could be devastating, but the damage would not be physical.

This is someones sick joke. Although it is a hoax...if it were real though I am not sure how Obama would handle it but I sure know how Reagan would handle it if he were alive and still President. He would simply say if one nuke goes off in the US we would turn Mecca into glass.

It's much worse than a sick joke. If it's a hoax than it is the most vile and evil kind of hoax one could think of. If it is not a hoax and there is some reality behind it, then the perps should be hunted down and dealt with mercilessly. I would have no sympathy or mercy whatsoever for anyone who would participate in this form of terrorism.

And, no, that doesn't mean I endorse the fetid "war on terror" which coupled with the refusal to address the underlying causes of "terror" perpetuates the very behaviors it pretends to fight against, much like the "war on drugs".

propaganda against the US nuclear power industry trying to bring the danger to light? false flag? who knows. I do know that all the naysayers have their heads up their collective butts if this made the MSM and they are completely doubting that anything could remotely happen.

A dirty bomb consists of explosives and radioactive materials. It's very easy to smuggle the right content into this country. The black market is a great thing when it comes to these scenarios, especially in Bulgaria.

Here, have a look at this video. It's from Vice's Guide to Travel series:

The final weapons/devices are radiation shielded to prevent premature detonation, those radiation monitors might be abe to detect raw materials, but your confidence in their abilitiy to detect a final product is probably overestimated IMO.

Written like a 10 year old.

Yeah, I may not be real clear on the whole suicide bombing thing, but aren't suicide bombers supposed to hug their bombs and blow up with them rather than standing afar off with a clicker?

Kinda defeats the purpose of the suicide aspect, don't it?

If a person had any contact with anything that was anywhere near any of the components at any time in the last few thousand years.............it would be detectable.

The mobile units can detect radiation from a nuclear stress test, in a heart patient, driving down an interstate, while the unit is parked in a rest stop.

I'm pretty sure it can detect a dirty bomb, and that is just the mobile units. The fixed units are much more sensitive!!

If we find one can we keep it? Finders Keepers? I wonder if people will go easter 'nuke' hunting.Seriously, I could totally see the CIA putting this crap all over America, just waiting to create another disaster only bigger than 911. This event will most likely be simultaneous nukes exploding all at the same time, placed in strategic places according to all of their recent studies on the fear levels and the largest populations infected by the Illuminati designed fear.....or the ones who fell for the lies and now suffer paranoia. Yeah, there's a good idea huh, CIA? That ones free, the next ones gonna cost ya.

Interesting trying to decifer whether the threat is realor not. I did notice something interesting today though.
I had occasion to travel past several(3) schools today for work, stationed near each one was a fully staffed fire truck. Full crews just sitting there as if they were waiting for something to happen. It was weird. Just something I noted
