In what I see as a last minute shuffle to court the African American vote, President Bush has asked that they vote Republican. I wonder if they will remember the roadblock put up during the last election to prevent African American voters in FL from voting.

www.detnews.com
"I know plenty of politicians assume they have your vote," he said. "But did they earn it, and do they deserve it?"
Bush drew applause each time he ticked off one of his questions to the group: "Is it a good thing for the African-American community to be represented mainly by one political party?"

"There is an alternative this year," Bush said. "Take a look at my agenda."

The speech, coupled with the announcement of an unusual partnership with a special-interest group to nurture minority businesses, was as an election-year bid to use government resources to reach out to black voters. It also served as a slap at the NAACP, a group Bush snubbed last week because he believes it has been hostile to him.

A last ditch effort or a genuine reconstruction of republican policy toward the indifference to poor minorities? My opinion is an election year is not where you start on issues like this if you want to be taken seriously.

*whispers* ....I see BLACK people!!!

He hated every minute of it...you have to see a clip of the speech, which is a last ditch effort, not for blacks, but for people who get pissed at this party's lack of inclusion.
He'll get fewer votes by the various minority groups than he did in 2000.

Latino are overwhelmingly for Kerry. And, in that group, he's alienated large blocks of the Miami Cuban GOP stronghold by his placating the older Cubans there via stupid restrictions against Cuba.

In other news, Osama bin Laden has appealed to Jews worldwide to support his Jihad against American imperialism.

This is too funny!

If this is for real, whoever told him to say that has completely lost it.

Is this an attempt to woo black voters?
Black People Love Us!

EDIT: Bush is the peace president and the minority president? Did he get a make-over from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy?

Bush should come here to the south and ask the African Americans votes, he will probably get stone if he does that.

He really had to force himself to speak at the minority groups, after all he's for the conservative middle age white American and if they are wealthy the better.

Amazing.

He turns down the NAACP (for very good reasons) and he gets blasted for not speaking to the group.

He goes to the Urban League and gives a VERY good speech (I watched it this afternoon), and he gets blasted for 'going after the black vote' etc. etc.

For Bush bashers, nothing he does will ever be good enough. He could do the same thing as Clinton, but he'd get yelled at and jeered.

Clinton - Saw that tens of thousands of Muslims were being persecuted in the Balkins. Absolutely no threat to the United States at all. Didn't get the UN to help but decided to go in completely alone to help them. Clinton was applauded by the radical left and Hollywood.

Bush - Saw that MILLIONS of Muslims were being mass murdered, raped, maimed, and was threatening war on neighbors. Probable threat to the United States due to funding of international terrorists, Palestinian homicide bombers, and terrorist training camps within Iraq. Got UN approval in part and went in with the cooperation of 45 Nations in the Coalition of the willing. Bush gets bashed by the radical left and Hollywood for going 'alone' (45 nations is alone?) and for hurting the Iraqi people (liberating them from Mass murder, rape rooms, and Saddam is hurting?)

Everything in George Bush's speech was true. I'm sure he wants the black vote as any politician does, but I also believe that he was VERY sincere when he gave the points that he'd like black voters to think about for the next few months. The QUESTIONS he asked them to think about before casting their votes. Does the Democratic Party take the black vote for granted? YES! Does it buy the black vote with giveaway programs and does it fail to help and encourage small business and education in the public schools? YES! G.W.'s questions for black voters were absolutely on track and I hope all voters will consider them for the next few months. If they do, they will see that G.W. DOES understand that the Republican party hasn't always carried the mantle of Lincoln, but that it is doing better for black America than the Dems. Give aways don't equal what's best.

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime. Dems give black voters the fish. Republicans teach them to fish. That's the difference.

Not true. The only preventing of votes was done by Al Gore. He wanted to disenfranchise the military vote. Hundreds of thousands of them. Because he knew that military people understand the security needs of this country and that he, Al Gore, was very soft on security whereas G.W. is strong.

The only disenfranchisment of voters was done by Al Gore.

Bush has a record that does not portray his sincerity very much. He has a trail of lies and deceived and the people in this country even die hard republicans has seen his dark side.

I was in FT. Hood, TX at the time, and sent my absentee ballot for Gore. As a soldier, I knew that Gore would be strong on security, as well as keeping American freedoms. I also knew that Bush was inept, judging by his past. So please don't lump all military members into a huge group. Want to see what the military thinks of Bush? Just read through any issue of Army Times.

The author of this article is obviously a Michael Moore clone who feels that he has to apologize for being white. NOONE was disenfranchised in Forida in the 2000 elections. Every investigation that was conducted did not turn up a single incident of a voter being turned away who had proper identification. That is why all charges were dropped and every BS rights organization did not pursue it. BUSH won count after count after count. You just can't let it go, can you? Wake-up! It's the Democrats that survive off of making people dependent on the government. More Democrats were opposed to the Civil Rights legislation then Republicans. They were the party that supported it. What is a Scary Kerry and his running mate John "I-made-my-millions-by-using-junk-science" Edwards going to do for you? Man, go back to school and take some basic economics courses.

Sorry??? (googling)

I'm finding all sorts of articles about Bush fishing, but none of the pictures have black people in them.

Did you mean Republicans teach black people to golf? Cause if Bush taught Tiger Woods he's pretty good then.

I kill me.

Fort Hood? I was in HQ and HQ CO 2nd Armored Division.

(Hated guard duty! All those tanks ... all those rattle snakes!
At least they could give a girl a gun or something, but nooooooo,
all I got was a military nightstick. Like that could kill a snake???).

You are the ONLY military person I know, both active duty and veteran status, that voted for Gore. The ONLY one. Gore wanted the military
vote discredited because he knows that generally the military votes
republican because they are stronger on security for the country than
democrats. Sorry, but I stand by my statement.

Please tell us about these lies....do give a list of them.
I really want to "read" about them.

Contrary to Kerry flip-flop statements, Bush has been pretty straightforward to the American public.

I hearby issue a Double Standard Alert on this thread.

Bush doesn't go to the NAACP and he gets ripped for it. If he had gone to the NAACP, he would have gotten ripped for it. He does go to the Urban League and gets ripped for it. If he hadn't gone to the Urban League he would have gotten ripped for it.

In other words, just another Bush hating thread. Sad, sad, sad.

Well he has totally ignored the African American people, how can he expect to come up with this cockamamie plan at the last minute and expect to look sincere?

I wonder what is wrong with bush and minorities, doesnt he knows that they account for almost half of the votes in this country? If you put all the minorities together you will know that they are a very strong force in this country.

He should be nicer not arrogant toward minorities in this country.

The president is obviously not conecting with minotities groups in US.

Then are you saying he should not have gone and talked to the Urban League? What would people say about that? They would bash him for not going just like with the NAACP.

Like I said. Double Standard. Can't have it both ways.

[edit added] Well, I guess you can if you don't mind sounding like a hypocrite. [edit end]
