I have just let my dog out before going to bed - time 23.15pm on Tues 29th March in Derbyshire UK and heard a very strange noise........... in the distance, towards the south ......... like a collasping rumbling noise which lasted for approx 7 seconds.......... Initially thought thunder but there is nothing else to suggest that........... I do not know what that just was.. weird ..

Regards

PDUK

Without a link to the source or more information this does not tell anyone much. For all I can glean a Sudden Impulse might be as dangerous as a feather falling from the sky on my head.

I've seen enough "Chicken Little" the sky is falling posts to last me a while. How about some information to go with this post?

Could you also direct me to the studies linking a "Geomagnetic Sudden Impulse" to Earthquakes? Any paper from a good source would do, although peer reviewed, published papers would be better. If it's covered in another thread, a link to that would be appreciated.

Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) conversion for USA:

Atlantic Standard Time (AST) = UT - 4 hours
Eastern Standard Time (EST) = UT - 5 hours
Central Standard Time (CST) = UT - 6 hours
Mountain Standard Time (MST) = UT - 7 hours
Pacific Standard Time (PST) = UT - 8 hours

If Daylight Saving Time is in effect in the time zone, you must ADD one hour to the above standard times.

World Conversion Chart:
earthsky.org...

UTC, aka ZULU time, is the same as Greenwich Mean Time, except during summer hours, add 1 hr.

OR, use this nifty little site:
www.timezoneconverter.com...

Best I can tell, 1545 UTC is ~10:30 pm, PST

Well the OP's data is correct, a quick search of solar reporting sites verifies that. Also, there was a geomagnetic solar impulse on march 10th

Space Weather Message Code: WARSUD
Serial Number: 76
Issue Time: 2011 Mar 10 0623 UTC

WARNING: Geomagnetic Sudden Impulse expected
Valid From: 2011 Mar 10 0645 UTC
Valid To: 2011 Mar 10 0745 UTC
IP Shock Passage Observed: 2011 Mar 10 0610 UTC

It will be interesting to see if there will be M and X class flares that follow this. Also we could see another earthquake caused by this as there seems to be a recent correlation to these events and earthquakes, remember I said SEEMS to be, the reason I phrased it that way is that correlation DOES NOT always mean causation and I have no scientific evidence suggesting their connection to earthquakes. It MAY be an interesting 48 hours, or it may not, guess we will see

So this is coming sometime tonight/tomorrow depending where in the world you are?

It seems they might be connected to strong earthquakes according to Wikipedia.

Theories

These events are believed to be caused by changes in the flow patterns of the liquid outer core of the Earth. [2] Another theory is that they are due to torsional oscillations in the solid inner core of the Earth.[1][4] There have been claims that they are connected to strong earthquakes.[5

I agree with you - need much more real info from the OP.

I did find this list of scientific info, in case you feel like perusing:

www.scitopia.org...:geomagnetic+earthquake/

And this
Effects in the ULF electromagnetic field induced by seismic activity:
meetingorganizer.copernicus.org...

Not saying I agree or disagree, just offering up some possible sources.

Only 15 minutes till spaceweather.com gets updated for tomorrow, so I assume I will see it then, I visited the site about 20 minutes before this was posted, so I assume the op gets text alerts from them ???
