The suspect was thought to be involved with cockfighting. He was unarmed. There was not a suspicion that he was armed. Not a pure instance, I grant, because actor Steven Seagall was in on this through a contract with the sheriff who did it. That itself is incredible.

What's wrong with using a tank in an arrest warrant you ask? Well for one thing even if it's something illegal taking place such as cockfighting, although as simple of an offense as it may seem, police may have suspected Mexican Mafia to be involved. Cockfighting and the Mafia aren't exactly strangers to each other. And wherever the mafia is that's where a lot of firearms being wielded are going to be. If I was a cop in a high risk situation with a criminal I would use a tank too. Have you seen how many videos of armed and extremely dangerous criminals in shootouts. This is them taking proper precautions. Nothing wrong with it in my opinion.

When they start bringing tanks to peaceful protests, then i'll be worried.

Yes, I would agree with you there. I think this situation was appropriate. I would not like it at a peaceful protest. There are so many illegals in arizona that they do need more tanks. If you are illegal and I have orders to deport you, you guarantee a tank will be used. Thumbs up to Arpaio.

A tank... An apc. Latter would be correct term. I watched the news clip about that from gawker.tv and it definately looked like a total overkill. Swat teams here and there, seagal and apc. Neighbours said they thought there was a war or something. Guy was sleeping when they 'sneakead in' with the apc. Also the video showed they pretty much stormed the place and did some serious damage on the property in process. All for the show of it. I wonder if this sheriff has ever seen Seagals movies? If he had he would've just sent him alone.

That is not enough for me. If they are illegal, they are most likely Mexican and the mixture of drug violence is guaranteed to escalate the situation. I would be happier knowing a tank was there especially to capture an illegal. My family came here legally, through all the proper channels, they learned English before they ever stepped foot on US soil.

Okay, here's my opinion on the situation.

This WAS nothing more than a stunt for Steven Seagal's show. The attorney on the local news even mentioned that. Viewer's see this on the show and think, "Wow, a tank, holy S+++". People here about this on the news and tons people are going to tune in to check it out. The show will gain some ratings for this.

Now, the real story about the tank. Is it a tank like an M1 Abrams? NO. Is it even a light tank? No. It's basically a self propelled Howitzer. An "artillery" cannon on tracks. Anyone who knows anything about artillery knows that its used as a long range weapon. Meaning the Maricopa Count Sheriffs dept will NEVER fire this thing. To much of a risk of missing the target and doing some serious collateral damage. It's not like a Abrams Tank that can fire up close on the target. There's no way this vehicle will EVER be used to fight crime or protect officers. That is unless a foreign military invades and trust me you'll be praising them for having this machine then.

The original purpose of the tank was to get kids attention for their anti drug program. Kids see a tank going down the street or on the side of the road and it gets their attention. More so than adults. The tank is covered in anti drug propaganda. It's solely an attention getter. The Sheriff's dept never even paid a dime for it. It was given to them by the Dept of Defense. Joe Apairo makes it no secret he's out to purchase military hardware for his officers. Often brags about it. But folks, this ain't it. This is not what Joe is wanting to fight crime with. Unless you consider this on a mind war to stay off drugs. But this is not the hardware Joe wants, believe me.

The producers of the show knew about it and probably thought, "hey, it's used to get the attention of kids, why don't we use it on a harmless raid to get the attention of our viewers". The Maricopa Sheriff's dept probably thought, "hey, why not, it will scare some the local populace and makes others feel safe plus we won't get in any trouble or cause damage because we don't even have ammo for it". So its a win win situation for both parties involved.

Now, I found all this out in less than a minute. If Alex Jones team would have done the right thing that they claim our MSM doesn't do, "REPORT TRUTHFULLY" they would have figured this out, and reported it correctly. But, they're not in the business of telling the truth. Their in the business of Fear Mongering and using whatever they can turn into propaganda to back up their Police State claims and Martial Law is imminent cries. It looks more believeable when a news source is posted. But you always have to think about these things and seriously look at both sides. As a good rule of thumb I think about both parties and their reason's for doing whatever is being reported. This is with every news article or report. You will find that most stuff that sounds bad, usually isn't if you seriously look into with an open mind.
