I heard something similar to this the other day, and felt the ground vibrate. I posted it in the Arkansas earthquake thread, thinking it was an earthquake, since I lived there.

Creepy. Now, I'm off to read the rest of the comments...

We live just South of Pittsburgh in South Western Pennsylvania. We're right on the edge of the Appalachian mountains. I don't recall the exact date, but we heard the rumbling sound approximately 3 to 4 weeks ago. It seemed to be coming from the south east. I saw a few flashes of what I thought was heat lightning. My assumption at the time was that there must be so much heat lightning (cloud to cloud) that it was causing a constant rumble of thunder. However, you usually don't hear thunder from heat lightning, which is what made the sound so out of place.

I also thought it might be a plane, but the sound went on for at least 15 minutes from when we first noticed it, and planes usually only make a sound for a minute or two and change directions. I was also worried that it might be a tornado, but there was no wind. I had the family move into the basement just in case.

Independent of this thread, on Saturday after reading the compass thread, I checked my iPhone compass and it seemed to be off by almost 45 degrees. It showed due North as North East. I used the orientation of my home on Google Earth as a reference. I just opened up the compass app and NOW IT"S SHOWING NORTH AS NORTH. I don't know if it's just a poor compass app or if something totally weird is going on.

Hello ATS,

Have read all pages - here's my account:

We have been living in this location in Richmond BC, Canada for the past 7 years.

In the past year we started hearing this rumbling noise at 10-11 pm. It's not every night but quite often.
It sounds like other people described, as a jet parked over your house, but in our case: far. Can also be describes as 'snoring' almost. The thing is that it sounds like nothing I've heard before. My wife also hears it.

I tried listening to the floor with a stethoscope, but I couldn't hear it better.
However, I hear it better when "in Bed" rather than "near the window" ??? Like the body is picking up the vibrations from the bed. It's definitely very low frequency.

I discussed it with the police but they did not have other reports about it.

I'll try to record it, but it's difficult as it's barely audible.

Regards

arit

The very same thing is what happens with me! It is not often but when it is it is around the same time in the night, and I dont usually hear it in my living room or kitchen but it is when I am in my bedroom and mostly already in bed when I hear the 'rumbling' clearest. Even standing near the windows/doors isnt as clear.

It really is odd

I hear earth quake sounds in the sky or it sounds like a washer machine off balance.

Also a sound of a slow rythmic whooosh... like spinning in a low tone...?

Thanx for the help

reply to post by Visiting ESBIt's wind, lots and lots and lots of wind, not high pressure, (actually it's fairly LOW pressure) but an EXTREMELY high volume, as i said "lots & lots & lots of wind". I remember it very well, you see I had just eaten this MONSTER beef & bean burrito for lunch and just couldn't hold the gas in any longer. It has happened to me before & it'll happen again(sorry boys, I just LOVE those burrito's).

No, what's sad is when people randomly decide that completely different posters are the same and thus reveal that they're not really paying attention.

But anyway, have fun shifting those goalposts. If you can't say what you mean the first time, we could be here all night trying to figure out what you really actually meant each time your demands are met.

Your assumption may be correct, lots of air moving, sounds like a locomotive train and also like a jet car prepairing for a run.

If all of these sounds occured all around the world or atleast continent-wide THEN it would mean something. So far, apparently it was heard once in 2000, then two years later in australia. Then 8 years later in the US. That's a long gap in time thus all probablity indicates that it may as well been a damn plane at night.

You're not dismissing everyone's stories, but you sure are going through a lot of trouble to point out how the sound has a perfectly rational explanation. Who are you trying to convince? Why do you care so much that someone doesn't think the same way you do about it.

To be honest, your assertions that it was ONLY something "mundane" implies that all of us are too ignorant to realize all we heard is something perfectly normal. I'm a normal person and I know what normal is and I know that the sound I heard wasn't normal because it wasn't like anything I had every heard before, ergo the interruption in my brushing routine. But it's a good thing you have such a rational head on your shoulders and can prove so by your use of critical thinking terminology, cuz then you might be wasting a heck of a lot your time trying to convince everyone of how rational you are....Oh, wait....

By the way, not everyone thinks the sound means the world is ending. We just think it's strange, and there is nothing wrong with discussing our experiences. So it would be nice if you could participate in the discussion (which doesn't mean you HAVE to agree) instead of sounding like a broken record with your ridicule. You're just stirring the pot and that is why you are being called a troll (I am NOT saying you are being one, at all).

violet,

Indeed, I do live not far from YVR. The planes continue to come and go as usual, as they have always been since we moved here.
The noise is there even when the planes aren't. I am familiar with the jets, and their noise does become clearer when near the window. The direction is clear.

With this noise, the direction is undefined. How can it be? For all other noises I hear, I can tell the direction (we instinctively rotate our head to find the direction of noise, our brain balances the sound coming in "stereo", right?)

But here I am clueless. Seems like underground, but we sit in a river delta... And also the noise is not louder through the stethoscope I put in the ground.

Plague:

If I hear it at 10-11, and you hear it at 10-11, but we are three hours apart, it makes even less sense... What time are you hearing it exactly?

Cheers

arit

Hi its been a really long time since I have posted anything on here but when I saw these postings I felt like I would put my own two cents in the pot...
The other night on March 18th 2011 close to 9:00 pm or so, all of a sudden out of no where came a very loud sound, the sound actually reminded me of the sound you hear if you go to a concert and are standing in front of the huge speakers and the band starts to a sound check, that initial cacophony of sound that erupts, but this continued on for close to 2 maybe even 3 minutes. On top of that it seemed to have a pulsing beat to it almost like the heartbeat of some gigantic machine. The weirdest part of it all was that I was completely unable to get any sense of direction that the sound was coming from it simply felt like it was coming from EVERYWHERE., from Every direction. With every Pulse of the sound, you could feel it in your body, not so much like the ground was shaking but that my body was vibrating in response to the noise. I have never experienced anything like it before or since in my life.My boyfriend yelled to me from the other room,"what the heck was that"? It had woke him up from his little snooze . Then just as suddenly as it started it stopped, silent for a moment or two and then all of a sudden it seemed like every car alarm in the area as well as the alarms on several nearby buildings went off all of a sudden. That lasted for about a minute or so and then everything was silent. It totally creeped me out, because I knew that the next day was the "super moon" and I didn't know what if any adverse effect this might end up having. Glad to report that nothing untoward ended up coming as a result of said "super moon". I should also mention that I live in Fontana, Ca about 2-5 miles of the San Andreas fault line, I probably should actually know for sure how many miles away we are but I have lived my entire life in California and for some reason everywhere that I have lived whether Northern Calif or southern I am always within 5 miles of this damn fault line. Probably doesnt matter much anyway because I am definitely close enough that if something significant happened this entire area would be pretty much screwed.

So we have had reports of this same noise all over the world literally 2-3 members on the same page of every page of this thread have heard this noise?

Guys of course you have heard this sound/noise before its a jet engine rumbling weather it be NASA space shuttle launch or a military jet after burner audio sample, the audio to this video has been edited

I to have heard this sound every morning & every night, but coming from a busy international airport 4 miles away from an air plane taking off, but i'm not going to delude my self in pretending i heard it for anywhere near the length of time in the video...really be honest with yourselves did you really hear it for 20 minutes over your home?

first time seeing someone else notice this. wish I had the exact details, but here is my info:
Heard the rumblings for a few non-consecutive days mid February in the late afternoon standing in a strip mall parking lot.

Location-Sanford Fl
Time-between 2 and 6
Date-2/15 thru 3/1

Sounded like an extended rumble from a distant explosion. I found it odd how no one else seemed to acknowledge it. More than one that dat in a 10 minute period, one even rattled the windows on a storefront I stood outside of.

That's it; but it has bothered me ever since.

I am a pilot and ex military, I know what an aircraft sound like, and as a lifelong Floridian I know what the shuttle sound like. For a noise to get my attention it truly had to be out of place.

We had this exact same thing in North Olmsted, Ohio about a month ago. Was absolutely nuts. Sounded like a tornado. I could not sleep because of it. It lasted for over 2 hours here from about 12AM to 2:30AM. A co worker lives near me and she heard it as well. Crazy part was I opened my skylight and no wind whatsoever. It was only heard for a 1 mile and a half distance.

There is an airport nearby me as well as a NASA facility. I'd say they are less than 2 miles away.

Yes, I have a pretty good understanding of the scriptures but like any other student of scripture will tell you, we don't know it all. Yes, there were remarkable events surrounding Moses when God was near and all throughout the Bible. And as much as I would LOVE to say "This is it, His return is near", it's just impossible for anyone to say. People have been screaming that for 2,000 years and only God knows the exact time of Jesus' return.

Trying to decipher a relative "time and/or answer" for this mystery and assigning it a present and/or future biblical event through scripture is not an exact science and I don't think anyone will figure it all out. But many people try and it's interesting and fun. But it really comes down to interpretation and understanding the original Greek and Hebrew languages.

In regards to this particular situation, there would be no way for us to know what it "sounded" like when God came near and appeared to Moses. We just don't have video of that lol. We know how it's described in the Bible, but we also know that without a doubt, those that witnessed it, had NO doubt whatsoever who was present and what was going on. So I think those that are experiencing this strange rumblings would also without a shadow of a doubt know if it was God. But when God has appeared or spoken, it was with purpose, and I am not sure what His purpose would be.
