Really? this is in Japan not the US it's perfectly ok for him to go to Rio I'm sure the US is aiding in Japan, Obama himself does not have to be there. I can't believe you are making obama out to be a bad guy for this wowwwww some of you people amaze me and are flat out ridiculous!

The US can't play savior for everyone all the time! There are other issues that needs to be tended to, If Obama wants to go to Rio for whatever reason who cares! This thread should have never been accepted and posted by MODs. really Mods? nothing better to post?

What's with the Obama bashing? You upset he's not on TV about this? The prime minister of Japan only came on broadcast once, yes. ONCE since this has gone down.

You act like he's going on vacation! if the president took a break for every disaster to oversee operations for a whole other country nothing would ever get done here.. some of you are rather foolish and just try to spread hate, who's aiding the U.S in our economic time? who came to the aid of the BP spill besides BP themselves? who's aiding the U.S in our time of struggle? Nobody! and some of you have the nerve to downtalk the President. wow! Yeah! U.S. has their hand in every crisis, no wonder we are going under, we help everyone but ourselves! maybe it's time to let Countries aid themselves. sounds cold hearted but i'm tired of hearing about what the president is doing during a crisis even more when it's not even in our country

I agree with you whats with the Obama bashing? must be some Tea Party members on here, This is why most countries have goverments and part of it is aiding their own people in a crisis not to wait for something to happen and then call up Obama. Please Mods remove this thread i't B.S its been up 30 hours now and only 12 pages of comments everybody knows this thread is B.S

Obama trip to Latin America still on despite turmoil

The president and his family are scheduled to travel to Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago and San Salvador on the trip, designed to highlight economic and trade issues and energy and security cooperation. White House officials are billing the visit as primarily an effort to drum up export markets and future opportunity for US businesses as they seek to emerge from the worst financial crisis in decades. "There has been tremendous progress in this region economically over the last decade or so," said Mike Froman, deputy national security advisor for international economic affairs.

The world is falling apart and hes going to Rio. Tells me all I need to know about this guy.

What are YOU doing? Did you call in to work and decide to fly over to Japan to help out with the crisis? You wanna see him swinging a pick and shovel?

It's rare that I want to call someone an idiot, but I want to right now. The US IS helping with the crisis, which is probably more than you're doing right now. Guess who sent them to help? Yeah, that's right, Obama... So get off your high horse and quit using this crisis for whatever lame agenda you've got going...

"Maybe you think the president should fly into the core of the reactor....."

FINALLY!!.. something that dude can do to make himself useful.

Better yet, he should rally hw, w, the bubba flock and "lead" them on a "presidential fact fining mission" to the reactor core.. fearless leaders shouldn't be afraid to sully an official manicure. They can don rainbow afros then pile out of a VW Bug powered by a giant wind-up key as speakers play "doodoo-doo-daa-daa-deedoodoo"

If Barnum & Bailey circus was in your town when an earthquake hit, would you expect the clowns to strip off their make up and "lead" others?.. or would you expect them to follow the circus schedule and do as they're told?

The party leader circus has a tour schedule to keep..he needs to go to Rio and tell them if they don't dance to uncle sams tune.. economic hit-men will follow.

This is really a reply to all obama apologists.

What is the deal with you people? I am not a bush fan but the double standard is off the charts. Our last president got the tar beat out of him when he played a few rounds of golf while a war was going on and then he would get the tar beat out of him for vacationing in Texas.

obama is obviously asleep at the wheel. He is obviously in over his head. His response to the collapse of the middle east was a great indication. His inability to handle Israel is another. He is absent in the budget debate. He is getting it handed to him by the Chinese. Gas is off the charts. Housing is the worst in 27 years. All taxes are now used to simply pay entitlement programs, everything else is deficit. He spent over $4 trillion in deficit spending in 2 years! (while whining about the prior prez leaving $1T over 8 years). He continues to spend billions we don't have. Unemployment remains around 10%. The dollar is in free fall while he prints money. Now, here we are; Earth, on the precipice of death and what does our leader do? He goes golfing (61 times to be specific), goes to a party (no pictures please), picks march madness brackets, vacations (again?) in Rio.

"Our hearts go out to the people in Japan," Obama said, telling fellow fans that a donation "would be a great gesture as you are filling out your brackets."

Really? This is "making it clear" that the US will do whatever it takes to help Japan?

Here is the whitehouse site with obama's statements: link

The best we can get is this? link Nothing from the heart, just more teleprompter words. Then he basically insults the PM of Japan by messing up his name by calling him PM Kan. Is our president called president barrak? The PM's name is Naoto. Or, more formally, Naoto-san. It is also funny that our president has to qualify his remarks by name-dropping. "I" just talked to so-and-so.

This is presidential? This is what we now accept as an American response to what is probably the worst disaster in the history of man? This is our leader? A real president would delay his vacations and would address the world via mass media. He would call on all the world to send help. He would send every team and expert in the US. He would have every soldier and sailor already stationed in Japan lending assistance. He would do these things and more. A real president would do...something.

But we don't have a real president. We have off-handed remarks mixing the Japan tragedy with march madness picks. "I think Kansas will take it, oh, yea, and maybe send a few dollars to someone helping out with that japan thing. But now, let's talk about my picks some more since I like talking about me."

He pays more attention to his fund raisers. He pays more attention to pandering to certain voting demographics. He has had no problem making very strong statements against the governors of Wisconsin and Arizona. He has had no problem making very strong statements about that police officer who arrested that black professor. Worst disaster ever? Google Search Crickets Chirping .wav

It is time to face the music. This guy isn't a president. I wish we could somehow bring Bill Clinton back. Hell, bring back Jimmy Carter even. I can't even imagine what Reagan would have done but you KNOW it would be VERY presidential. This guy? Anyone, anyone, Bueller?

Oh, and just to make sure we completely cover the whole scorecard.

He has escalated the war in Afghanistan. He has signed the extension of the patriot act. He has kept GITMO open. He has restarted military tribunrals and has even stated that if one of the prisoners is found guilty he will keep them indefinitely in GITMO anyhow. He extended the bush tax cuts for the rich.

So. All of that and now he completely fails on Japan.

president obama = fail.

Jimmy Carter must be happy.

I have written my representative and both senators stating they need to begin impeachment proceedings (yes, I know it starts in the house but the trial is in the senate). I encourage all of you to do the same. Ranting on this website does nothing. I have been lurking for a while but Japan and obama have brought me online. I have read numerous posts of people saying someone should do something. That someone is you.

Act!

Threads like this are one more example of why the GOP needs to change their mascot from an Elephant to an Ostrich. And before the label and dismiss routine from the Bushklan Folk, my write in was for the good Doctor, Ron Paul, so the Obama Syncophant argument is as ridiculous as some of the posts here. So since people criticized Bush harshly, youre going to criticize Obama harshly? Well I guess maybe all that would seem like poetic justice if there was actually something Obama was doing to deserve it. So he's going to Rio to attend a preplanned meeting in an effort to improve our economy. Oh wait, I forgot Teapublicans think that anywhere outside of the US is either Socialist, Communist, Fascist, Atheist, Hedonist or some combination of. And we all know what Rio is about right? One word, CARNIVALE!
And to plagerize a Dr I overheard talking to a patient about why they shouldn't support the Healthcare Bill, "His middle name is Hussein, you know what that means right?"
As someone who tries to look objectively at both sides I have to say that at least when people critcized Bush it was based on legitimate and real points of concern. Id say about 90% of the criticism of Obama seems to be based on distorted facts parroted from the on air personality de jour, hysteria, or "Well they did it to Bush" deep seeded obsessional fear and hatred driven by a psychological inabilty to deal with challenge or criticism of Bush. Your criticism of Obama would hold some weight if this disaster happened in America, not Japan.

Obama to go to Japan now would be the worst thing right now as the following would have to be interupted to accomodate him :

Rescue/Recovery operations, management of the operation and cause considerably more chaos then the people or the Govt need now.

Obama trashing people seriously need to re-examine what is going on in their life because when you have that deep rooted hate of someone makes you someone that shouldn't be allowed in public.

Those two provisions in Patriot Reauthourization Act of 2006 that just recently expired were not extended and have since expired so to the person who posted that lie it is a lie.

IMO this presidential trip in and of itself really isn't an issue (though one does surely wonder how often he takes his children out of school for such trips and how often is too much, though I must admit I would have loved to have gone on a whole bunch of trips in the school year when I was a child!), and I do believe that it is purely coincidental that it is taking place at this particular time, meaning right after the Japanese disaster. I also really don't see much point in having Obama go rushing over there, since the US always sends aid when such foreign disasters occur. In other words, other than a PR photo op, there really isn't much he could do over there that he couldn't do right here in Washington, DC.

(Though I do suppose the administration could send Biden over there to relieve himself on the reactor cores to cool them down - actually I'd be best not to suggest that because our veep might actually be stupid enough to believe he could pull that off!:lol

That said, I would think the main issue here is simply the sheer amount of travel Obama has embarked upon (and most of which has been entirely fruitless and a huge waste of tax dollars, can anyone say 2012 Olympics?) since he has been in office. "Mr. Green" wants everyone else to bike 20 miles to and from work in the pouring rain and freeze to death in their own homes, yet can you just imagine how much jet fuel has been burned by Air Force One (don't forget to add additional transportation for his enormous staff) in the past 2 years? At least when Bush Jr was sitting in Crawford, TX, he wasn't burning thru a gazillion gallons of jet fuel, spewing multiple tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

This is what I find especially galling (not just a random worthless diplomatic trip to S. America; surely every past president had made such a pointless trip at least once in his term) - a gross waste of government resources in a time of ongoing economic trouble. I suppose some eternal hopefuls might say he is trying to dig us out of this mess, but honestly, after 2 years, hundreds of thousands of miles of travel, billions of tax dollars flushed, and practically nothing to show for it - it is truly the definition of insanity - doing the same thing, over and over, and expecting different results.

If Obama did indeed care about this country (the US, not Japan) he would have cut back on his own excesses and travel (especially international travel) when only absolutely necessary. Not saying he can't have a vacation to Hawaii, play golf, basketball or whatever, but under pretty much any definition of the word much of these past two years worth of travel have been utterly frivolous and way, way over the top.

Bush was on vacation for something like 240 days out of 365 days a year and no one dared to complain about that and look at the economy now, in the tank.

Obama by comparison takes only like 30 days off out ot 365 days a year which means he's spent more time working at at The WH these 27 months then 43 did in his entire tenure.

That is the GOP, Baggers problem with him, if he spends more time working and little time playing means he can devote and dedicate the time needed to uncover and expose both for who they truly are.
