The being in a class room and not managing a current disaster in progress...
When I saw that photo on the White house web-page I INSTANTLY thought of the Bush Goat photo...
The photo was taken yesterday... it is not a file photo.

Getting in a dig on the President and blaming him for Japan's disaster is in poor form. He is not responsible for the clean-up and aid for Japan's disaster. Japan has its own government, its own leaders. The US is **ASSISTING** greatly with the situation, however. Showing a photo from an event in the day of the President and using it to somehow imply that he isn't doing his job is CHEAP and of BAD FORM.

What kind of photo would you like to see? President Obama in a radiation suit with a giger counter and a shovel picking through devasted villages? Further, there are people in leadership positions both in military and civilian organizations who have been rightfully appointed to manage situations like this. They, surely, provide detailed briefings to the President. Take your hatred of Obama elsewhere.

Personally, as thinly verified as this thread is/was (not at all, actually), you just de-legitamized it by making it a platform from which to attack the President.

This is a real threat to the entire ecology of earth.

Radiation in the sea and air will affect off of us.

The BP oil spill was already disgusting enough.

The radiation readers, show that Denver is having quite a significant raise in radiation, its getting closer to the the dangerous zone.

Also, I was wondering why as they're not at the coast, then I realized, their altitude means they would be affected first.

No, thats not what it shows. It does not show Denver having a rising radioactivity, unless you are charting it constantly. Altitude does not mean Denver will be affected first, but altitude can mean Denver can be affected more by solar radiation than a place at sea level. On station near Denver was showing 68 cpm, another nearby was 23. They dont even have an "Alert" until 130.

Lets not try to cause undue alarmism when its not warranted.

Come on guys and girls. Cease with the alarmist posts. The WC-135 story is simply a fear-mongering click to donate scam. He or she is simply created the story for a purpose. Think how much attention it has received and think how many have clicked on the donate button? Easy money.

Meanwhile back in reality land!

From USS Ronald Reagan Commanding Officer:
by USS Ronald Reagan on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 6:52am

Friends and Family of USS Ronald Reagan:

I want to take this opportunity to personally assure you that first and foremost all personnel aboard the USS Ronald Reagan are safe and healthy.

During our mission to assist our close allies of Japan, we were operating near the radioactive plume from Fukushima Dai-Ichi Nuclear Power Plant. As you may have already heard, radioactivity was detected on 17 personnel from our ship, however, we promptly took the proper precautions and the radioactivity was easily removed by using soap and water. The levels that were detected were very low levels. To put this into perspective, the maximum radiation dose received was equalt to the amount of natural background radiation one would receive in one month from sources such as rocks, soil and the sun.

Ronald Reagan has since repositioned away from the Fukushima Dai-Ichi Nuclear Power Plant.

As a nuclear-powered aircraft carrrier, we have extensive technical expertise onboard to properly monitor such types of risks, and if necessary, rapidly resolve the situation.

We have taken all the necessary precautions to ensure that everyone is safe. We have closely monitored spaces, evaluated everyone who has flown or worked on the flight deck and cleaned the aircraft.

I have not seen any levels of radiation or contamination that would cause me to have any significant concerns at all.

As we continue to assist Japan in this terrible catastrophe, our Sailor's--and your loves ones'-- safety will remain at the top of my priority list.

Capt. Thom Burke

I wouldn't bet on it, maybe the companies making brand name tablets, but not bulk supplies.

Look on E-Bay you can buy it by the pound.

Very conflicting news here, CNN and BBC say no radiation threat and they are cooling....

NHK world news says:

However, the firm concluded that it would be extremely difficult to spray water from a helicopter as the hole is dozens of meters from the storage pool and a helicopter can only carry a limited amount of water on a single flight. Workers are currently unable to approach the storage pool due to the high radiation levels. Tokyo Electric Company is studying the possibility of using fire engines and other options to inject water into the reactor.

Some great info here and a map showing possible fallout reaching West Coast if wind forcasts hold...
Austrian forecast map shows possible radioactivity EAST of Los Angeles by March 18 NO FEARMONGERING
Shows LA getting the heaviest around March 18-19th, looks like parts of AK, WA, OR will also get some as well.

No its true Denver has one of the highest constant background radiaition of all US Cities... I think it is a combination of altitude, and the mountains? Correct me if Im wrong.

You are correct that Denver will have a higher background radiation due to the altitude and mountains. I was commenting more on how a previous posting implied because of the higher altitude, it was already getting the effects of the japanese radiation

This now being reported on www3.nhk.or.jp...

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano says the level of radiation around the quake-damaged Fukushima No.1 nuclear power plant is high enough to affect human health. Edano told reporters on Tuesday morning that 400 millisieverts of radiation per hour had been detected around the plant's No.3 reactor building at 10:22 AM. He cited reports claiming that it is highly likely the containment vessel at the No.2 reactor building had been damaged. He added that the No.1, No.2 and No.3 reactors are all releasing hazardous radioactive material. The figure 400 millisieverts, or 400,000 microsieverts, is 4 times higher than the acceptable level of radiation for humans. Such levels could lead to a loss of white blood cells.

It frightens me that Denver is detecting an increase in radiation.
It also frightens me that the area I live in has gone from a usual
14 or 15 to 38. N. Indiana here - anyone know why that would be?

It frightens me less that 40 year old reactors can perform better than designed under higher stress than expected.

Sorry folks - no mega-lizards out of Tokyo Bay on this one!

This is sinking to a NEW LOW with this post.

Everyone, please be sure to click on the linky, to see what I am referring to.

As I read many sane and rational replies in this thread, it seems that the "info" that formed the basis of the OP has been called into question. I even saw the word "HOAX" bandied about.

These sorts of hysterical (if shown to be a HOAX) and nonsense (if that turns out to be the consensus) threads are not doing ATS any favors......

Saw a "suggesiton" in BB & Q for a "Thumbs Up/Down" concept. Well....here, I'll kick it off:

No thumbs down, weedy. CNN just said that radioactive waste will eventually get to the U.S and it will go global....Knowing as we do how slow MSM is at getting info to us, i dont doubt that this most proberbly happened hours ago...
