It just doesnt seem like there are enough. Especially with MODS forcing the conversation out of the fluid threads.

Maybe a couple dozen more or so?

Why not?
After all, this is the third one you've started..
Maybe every member should have their three

The Moderators are members and just members too when posting on a thread. Sure they tend to be some of the smarter members and better writers on average, but that's no reason not to engage them in normal debate if you feel differently.

If you run out of points to add, and someone has added some difinitive ones whether they are moderators or not, that might limit then what anyone else has to add.

It's a pretty bleak situation and topic and not necessarily one that's going to evoke a lot of 'feel good' great thread star and flag posts to keep it going.

It's a pretty big disaster with things changing constantly, you might want to consider not trying to make your ego bigger than it.

Might end up making you look kind of small.

Just saying.

While you were focusing your comments on me, you are illustrating my point exactly. This situation should be about getting the info out. Not about diverting the topic into multiple threads that each get a lot of hits as to build up the traffic on the site.

it is not my ego that is the issue here.

I understand where you are coming from.

However,

There are at least a dozen or more threads on the topic, and the primary reason they are closed and redirected is to keep the boards clutter free. There's no reason to have 10 million plus threads on the subject when a dozen will do for the various different situations.

I see it this way:

There are three sections to this disaster.

1. Earth Quake
2. Tsunami
3. Reactor/Nuclear Meltdown

All of those topics have at least 2 threads each to discuss the on going updates and membership opinions. There's no reason to have any more of those (that's a personal opinon).

In the future however, using the complaint feature is far more effective at getting staff attention.

Again, that is my point. Instead of letting fluid threads go on, warnings are being sent out and people are being encouraged to add to MULTIPLE threads on the topics. Just seems silly to me, not to mention counterproductive and inefficient.

ets: thank you though, for your response tttp. I do appreciate it.

I was wondering who would speak on this..

Perhaps with all the moderators associated with this site, a few bits of code could be introduced to allow them them to edit common threads.

This would give them the ability to form a better flow to the thread. Also the person who was first to open the subject would keep his alive, and keep the relevant information from those they close.

It would hinder the efforts of others to steal the spotlight, and make this site better for everyone.

I am new here, Perhaps they can do this already.

Nobody who has had a thread closed, received any sort of "warning" other than the automated U2U or message in the thread that stated it was closed/redirected.

Fluid discussions are going on now, in the 12+ discussions currently open. I would think that you would know, considering you've been one of the members who has kept us very well updated during all of this. I do thank you for that, but contributing to the existing threads is the better idea.

The information is easier held within a few, large threads, then hundreds of tiny ones.

I didnt have a thread closed, but I certainly did have posts removed.

My "more threads' comment was tongue in cheek. What I am speaking of is the fact that a few of us were warned fairly sternly to move out of one thread (that had been there since the start) and move to another of the multiple, newer threads, essentially creating dozens of 'spin-off' threads.

I know it truly isnt a big deal, but it is a tactic I have never seen on ats before. And it has made it a heck of a lot harder to keep up in the threads. It went from feeling very on top of the situation, to scrambling between multiple threads of redundant information trying to get the most current.

I wasn't aware that had occured, so forgive my ignorance.

Now with that situation, I would suggest if you'd like more information to file a complaint with the staff and those who participated in that event you are mentioning will be able to get back to you.

Whilst I agree with the point being made in the here thread, I must add that I'm quietly amused at the number of flags its gotten already.

No problem, that is what we are here for.

However, I must mention again, that individual U2U's to mods always take longer for responses as they may not be online. Real life gets in the way sometimes.

I highly recommend using the Complaint feature to get the attention of the whole staff. I'm sure there is a valid reason for whatever action was taken, and I'd like for you to get that answer if you do want it.

I have trouble enough keeping up with the big general one and the main nuke one as it is I don't have time to look at 20 plus threads on the same topic. With that may threads all you get is duplication or miss someones good addition.
