Before I went to bed last night I did rough count of 350 aftershocks as of 10:00 P.M. CST Sunday March 13, 2011 and noticed 3-4 foreshocks before the 8.9 on Friday.

If there is going to be another quake then the days after the moon reaches its Pewrigee will be one to look out for, that date is the 19th of this month, so i would expect somthing to give way in the following week when the moom starts to drift out again,

Well experts in earth and ocean sciences fear that an even bigger earthquake could occur in the area because 8.9 earthquake “unzipped” the boundary between two massive tectonic plates leaving a gap a few metres wide hence all that aftershock movement.

Yet we can’t predict is when another even larger earthquake will happen, it could be this year, in 20 years or 500 years.

We will just have to keep a close eye on things over the month.

Doesn't mean that this isn't worth talking about, or investigating? If i were in japan i would be thankful of everyone who was trying to do something to help or warn of something more to come. Especially because of the increased activity in that area that is out of the norm. People need to put the other shoe on now and again.

Reports yesterday were saying the "rip" is 250mi long and 5x as wide as the grand canyon...that's a lil bigger than 5m!

TA, S&F for you! You have done a tremendous job over the last week. ATS is the first place i have come for all my info on these tragic events unfolding in Japan.

It's threads like these that keep me coming back to ATS.

I understand you have no degree or fancy letters after your name (well, i presume
), but you HAVE taken an eagle-eyed interest in this field, as have a couple of others here ( thank you for your input too...), and i thank you for all your hard work and dedication to this topic/thread/field.

Keep up the good work TA, some of us here appreciate it

Now i have a Q...
If Japan it sitting on the continental plate (i could be wrong, wouldnt be the first time...lol), how could it move 8ish feet east?? Wouldnt it be more like the Pacific plate (and everything on it) moved west?? Or am i misreading stuff???

Cheers dude. Keep it coming..

I am very much looking forward to what Puterman has to say about this, I appreciate your knowledge and enthusiasm on the matter TrueAmerican, though I am seeking more than one credible mind on this analysis / theory. Great work so far.

I agree that we should help Japan and its people in this tragic time all we can......yet offering a couple of states just seems....shall I say a tad bit un American? ......shouldn't they have the right to choose which state they would like to live in ?

the sea life is already contaminated?.......yea ok

Don't mean to be rude, however, contamination is a body in an environment not native to the region, just like a big pile of garbage in the middle of the ocean. Yes the sea is contaminated, and a lot of species are dying. Contamination from the reactors however different story, we will not know the outcome of that for years. All riding on weather or not they melt down.

To help Japanese govt in reconstruction US should allow Japanese Govt & companies to import food, oil, medical supplies, construction equipment and other industrial goods from US free of any municipal, state & federal taxes and trade taxes/duties.

In lieu of this Japanese govt will write down/forgive and equal amount of US federal debt held by them

I call it a new Marshall Plan.

Board members are welcome to improve upon this suggestion.

I welcome all your opinions

Mods: I used the search function and also went through all threads discussing Japanese earthquake but could not find the right place. If this is not the right thread please move this post to the appropriate place. ( I cannot start a new thread)

Thanks

Vader.

It was in a thread from yesterday I'm still looking for it but it seems to be buried somewhere the influx of threads and info is overwhelming if I find it I will post it again...I guess ignore my earlier post untill I do but I am 99.9% sure I was reading people reporting that in a thread yesterday. Someone even used the Grand Canyon to compare.

My best guess would be that Japan has moved west throughout the years by pressure of Pacific plate. By this EQ Japan 'bounced' back eastwards.

Assuming your conclusions are correct, what does this mean for Japan? Are we talking about more massive surface damage or the entire island getting swallowed by the sea?

For what are those ghost towns in China and isn’t there some secret
connected with Japan. In fact today I was thinking about the Jerusalem
UFO as a sign of something to happen, then remembered one my dream
before many years, long before that movie with the giant tsunami and eventually
it came into my mind Japan Sinks by Sakyo Komatsu. Interesting what will show
the results of The Global Consciousness Project.

Well at a minimum, I really do believe Tokyo is in imminent danger from a quake along the triple junction or close to there. And because of the long built up stress, it would likely be a big one if there is significant plate movement. But it's not like if it occurred in the already active area, it wouldn't be just as dangerous. It probably wouldn't be as damaging in the active area considering that pressure there has been relieved. But this zone continues to surprise. Anyone's guess.

Also, the raising of the magnitude of the big one to 9.1 by the Global CMT Project is important because it actually puts the statistic probability of aftershocks all the way up to a potential 8.0, if interpreted liberally. The range is main shock (9.1) minus 1.1 to 1.5. Conservatively, it is 7.6. That's still a devastating number considering the already weakened infrastructure and fragile nuclear situation.

I suppose you could argue that if it was going to go, it would have went with the 5.1 quake. But that's not what the pattern has been. I think it is a warning, backed up by evidence of quakes spreading to the zone lines.

A zone wide plate move, on the other hand, could indeed put Japan under water, with no survivors. But that would only be a fraction of the damage.

I read it a couple of pages earlier so correct me if i am wrong.

Thanks
