Any idea how long the residents of say, Sendai or other towns/cities on the japanese coast
would have had to evacuate? were there warning at all?
The anxiety and anticipation in hawaii painted a picture of destruction, but imagine the
how terridying it must be to be caught almost off-guard

My heart goes out to everyone in the area (many countries are issuing tsunami warnings now)! CNN is now reporting that the yen is now plummeting in response to the quake - coward investors ship out when the country is in need, typical! I wish there is something I could do to help. For now, all I can do is watch...
This disaster will sure legitimize earthquake preparedness programs... FEMA's upcoming event comes to mind... The pictures on CNN are showing people in Japan standing around looking shocked and confused during the aftershocks - it sure lends credence to the fact that no matter how prepared you think you might be, actually experiencing a disaster is a whole different ballgame.
I hope you are, and can stay safe. I can't even begin to imagine the stress you and your countrymen are going through. I hope all your family, friends and all of their family and friends, are safe too.

It appears the worst is over.
Thank you to all the ATSers who shared this time with me.
It is heading for 2am here so I'm off for some much needed rest.
To those still awaiting the waves, my thoughts are with you, though it does seem that it is settling down in its force now.
Goodnight ATSers, keep safe... see you all again safe and well in a few hours.
Love Dragon33
Dear god i hope that's just a case of people not being able to notify others that they'r safe
