You guys know (and I don't doubt the severity of the situation) don't take every everything you hear from the media for granted on this one, just like Cyclone Yassi in NTH QLD here in Australia, the media blew it all out MAJORLY even to the extent of reporting massive loss of live just as it hit, when in reality...there was 0 deaths.

Just watched a spokesman from the BGS talking on BBC.

He said the nature of the wave that might hit Hawaii could be different from the places that have already been hit!

Something about the shape of the fault that generated it causing the wave to be generated in two specific directions,one into the coast of Japan,and the other in the exact opposite direction.

I may be wrong but i believe Hawaii is the next major landmark in that opposite direction?

Hopefully they are wrong!

No matter how many times I read 8.9, it still stuns me. I mean I just can't believe it. And the description of the tsunami is unbelievable.

What are the realistic expectations for Hawaii? What can they expect in the next 15 minutes?

yeah, it seems like where the quake hit and how the waves were created hawaii is in the direction of the way one of the waves is heading directly, where as indonesia was not, they only got hit with .5 meter high waves

1 person died actually but to be fair Cyclone Yasi was showing too be a deadly cylcone that had potential for major loss of life.

water levels are rapidly declining in the nuclear plant. Fears that "exposes" to nuclear material might occur

That might be wrong, ive been following this stream here and it is now around 15 minutes from now.

They are saying that after it hits Hawaii first, the rest of the west coast will be hit shortly after.

Ive got a bad feeling about this one, I hope everyone makes it away if it is going to be a bad one.

As far as I can tell, they are saying around 15 minutes from now until the tsunami, if any, will hit the islands.

The first wave is estimated to arrive approximately at 3:07 a.m. for Kauai; 3:21 a.m., Oahu; 3:27 a.m., Maui; and 3:46 a.m.for Hawaii Island.

Unusual wave action is possible for several hours after the arrival of the waves. Exact tsunami heights cannot be predicted.

All of these reports of destruction are all still new and I'm sure we'll hear far worse.

I follow NewEarthquake on Twitter and Japan is continously shaking with 5.0 and greater.

Standing by for heavy rolls in San Diego California … securing the weather decks … got up at 0400 PST … live a block from the Pacific Ocean … no warning system in place here … most people still asleep and unaware of what’s on the way … reports say tsunami wave will be about 1 meter high … remember, this is a more like the entire ocean raising 1 meter as the wave hits … could spell real trouble in low lying densely populated areas of Southern California … been calling as many people as possible … trying to get the word out

No, they are not like bombs. The danger is radiation leakage - not explosion - and even that risk is minimal in this situation ( as far as we currently know ).
