If confirmed, this will be the 4th more powerful earthquake of the humanity since 1900.

2043: The 6.7-magnitude earthquake which struck Niigata prefecture at 0400 on Saturday (1900 GMT on Friday) caused landslides and avalanches, police have said. The Kyodo news agency said there were no immediate reports of casualties after the tremor, which was followed by an almost equally strong one in the same area about 45 minutes later. The quakes struck in the west of the main island of Honshu, on the Sea of Japan coast.

The quake in Japan has been variously cited as the fifth most powerful or seventh most powerful ever recorded.

It was a megathrust event.

The quakes that have followed are aftershocks. Not a "swarm". The big quake released many, many times more energy than all of those aftershocks combined.

My heart goes out to the people of Japan. Hundreds of thousands of people are missing and list their lives. This is one of the worst disasters ever.

Hello, I am new member here, and this is my first post so please go easy. I think the Gentlemen that had the dream prior to the Japan's earth quakes was dead on. And I believe he must feel authenticated and very sad he was right. He is connected so to speak. As many are connected with premonitions and gut feelings concerning man's fate and tragedies. In the unified theory of things we are all able to be atena's at times with out being physic, to the waves going on in our world and to what is to come. I want to state I have a bad gut feeling that this is only the beginning... Not only the fact that a earthquake this large triggers a chain reaction to other fault lines and volcanoes , but the facts also of the massive CME from the sun and the "super moon" coming up will only increase these epic tragedies world wide. My feeling is Hawaii, California, and Alaska will be soon to follow in the next few days. Believe me I hope I am wrong and that I am picking up static today and it is more fears then waves My question is , does anyone else out there feel this way too?

can a mod please explain why people can make fun of the dead on this thread of updates only and their posts remain ? yet you say endtimes and your post removed ? what would upsett a person more ?

I have one of the EQ apps on my iphone, and noticed that one of the 6.2 EQs was on the west coast of Japan. Also the majority of the day there have been 5.5+ EQ's and here in the past hour they are mostly 6.1+ EQ's. I really really feel for the people there. Another massive quake would be beyond disastrous.

hey does anyone have information on how much energy or energy equivalent was released in the this earthquake?

I mean energy released in this earthquake was equal to how many nuclear weapons?

Well they say Japan has been sinking into the ocean for a long time now. I wonder if this being a megathrust if it helped lift them back up some?

well to be frank I have never seen anything like this, we have hours of footage of a 9.1 earthquake in Japan, we have A grim action packed real life drama unfolding, that will be felt all over the globe. Although grim and horrible as it is with less then 24 hours later reports of over 85000 people missing in Japan, is biblical. Also Japan was and is having a hard enough time trying to rebuild their economy from the quake in 95, after this, I dunno, also with the nuclear reactors possibly leaking radioactive waste, just makes it all a chronic disaster for life itself.

Very sad indeed. I am afraid their are more disasters to come. Yet I am in no way going to be troll bait in explaining why, just be prepared..

Better yet, if you see something questionable in a post regarding T&C's, go to the members info for that post, click on the blue drop-down that says 'member', and at the bottom you will see 'alert'.
Click on that. A screen will come up, you type in a message about what T&C's were broken, and hit send.
A mod will review it and take action if it is appropriate.
Less clogging.

Did not see what happened, but when I click on that link, it shows a picture with no sound, it says it is the State Operations Center, California Emergency Management Agency.

It looks live, but still no sound, hope everything is alright.
