It's more of an adrenaline high that FPS games give, at least in my case. More than once I've had to get up and walk around for a few minutes because of it. It's pretty hard to aim when your hands are shaking from it

Yeah, the high tension tactical games always get my heart racing, but it is definitely adrenaline - which I get when I am playing paintball, snowboarding, and riding my motorcycle.

Played EvE Online too, MMO kind of like WoW, but all in space - the battles there would get me super hyped up...
Broke now, so no more pay to play games... :-p

Charlie Sheen must really play a lot of Counter Strike or something.

Do games have anywhere near the number of deaths etc ... that coc aine has?

I dont know I am thinking these posts are funny.. Probably cause I played for 2 yrs and gave it up cause it was boring.. All I did in wow was spend time in IF bitching in trade channel how crappy the game was.. Come to think of it, I really didn't play alot either.. Like i didnt get into the whole 1337 gear thing.. I did it just to kill time, more likely just mess around and do nothing.. I guess that's why I spent most of 2 yrs in trade channel bitching on how bad the game sucked..

Oh well.. I dont see why people get an addiction for something though.. I haven't been able to get addicted to it.. anything really.. Smoking maybe.. But everything else meh, no big deal.. I am into Minecraft right now.. But even that i wouldn't say I am addicted to it.. There are some people who are on it alot.. You can tell my some of the work they do on the game...

Anyway games are something to do when you have nothing else better to do.. Its like spending hrs on ATS looking for something to talk about.. in either case neither is productive, that is why life is such a waste.. cause in the end it dont matter wtf you did, it only matters that you had fun doing it.

Cocaine is a helluva drug. In no way shape or form are they alike. Gaming is much safer. I am not saying you should quote me on this but just "trust me." Whoever wrote that obviously never jumped the fence to the greener grass.

HAHAHA that was seriously funny...

Anyways, I just was going to say I think its really subjective, games like WoW were designed by psychiatrist to be addictive. (lots of source to lazy to grab one. at work haha) *that should be illegal btw
But I do play Halo, I can't see anyone Gettin high off it unless you are really good.
I mean KDR of 6-20 isnt gonna do much.
but say your on a streak KDR 25-1 +24, thats a nice rush. But try to maintain that KDR.
Thats kinda the point when you get better KDR, KDR, KDR.
You get invited to clans, people want to be your friend.
But you have to maintain.
I can see, but its really rare, also I wonder if they used monkeys for this test haha

Wow, so when my oldest pulls all-nighters........ I guess I better look into rehab for him.

Playing all night is definitely a clear sign of a serious addiction. I hope your oldest is older (18+).

Hell no, it is not.

It is akin to staying up all night fishing, or playing monopoly, or countless other things all night.

ANd yes, I stay up all night to play games (video and board) sometimes. I also stay up all night to fish. I stay up all night sometimes just to read and learn in a peaceful environment. Sometimes I stay up all night drinking, smoking, and chilling with my friends, where we sometimes do one of the aforementioned things.

What is with the video game stigmata?

Not quite a psychiatrist.

I was a FFXI addict at one time. It started shortly after I gave up drugs, I guess it was like trading one escape for another. It was really bad, although I met a lot of good people from around the world, from UK to Germany to Asia, that I am still in contact with. Most of the people I was friends with were in other time zones, and I would end up playing until close to dawn and missing work. Got fired, and ended up shooting my 360, and getting a crappy night stock job. Worked that for a few months, until it made me want to kill myself. I got my old job back, and haven't looked back since.

Moderation is the key

Different people, though, have differing views of moderation.

When you get moderation down, one or two nights a month, go all out!

I've been a gamer all my life and I smell bs in this statement. First of all you dont get dependent on games like you do on drugs. Your body doesn't require x-amount of gaming every day. You can quit any time and I for one have quit playing many games and atm. only play one now occasionally. This guy has no idea what he is talking about.

With games like FFXI, moderation don't work though lol. It is hard to explain, but you have to join a badass linkshell(group) to get all the good armor, weapons and spells(blue mage). And to be in those linkshells, you have to participate daily, and at a certain time etc. I have heard WoW was a bit different, but screw it. I am glad I gave up gaming, it was a waste of time anyways lol.

I would much rather eat a bag of caps and play Duck Hunt on NES

It always cracks me up when I miss the duck and that dog pops up out of the field and laughs at me

It was also in the news fairly recently in the news that playing video games releases the same amount of dopamine as a good hit of heroine i believe.
Yes, because feeling happy is such a dreadful, dreadful crime...tut tut...

I was banging 7 gram rocks that's how I roll. "Winning!" I have one gear; Go! "Epidermic". Are you bi-polar? I'm bi-"Winning!", Win here, Win there, Win everywhere!

Off the drug/comedy side of it all.

I kept my Street Fighter instructions for the Megadrive/Genesis and read them a few years later. It tells you not to play for too long because you'll get a headache and fatigue at the beginning under the 'Important!' official part but when reading how to be a good fighter in the game it pretty much tells you to battle through it (via your character).

I left that all behind before I left Scotland but if anyone can find a copy of it it's pretty sweet and shows how addictive games where then never mind how they'd be today with a fully trained team and years of research behind it.

I really enjoy FPS gaming and am lucky to have a wife who helps me run a gaming community in our spare time. (Can't wait until Brink and BF3 come out! *drools*) However, I think some of these "researchers"/"scientists" need to find other ways to spend this grant money or use it for something like, oh....I don't know....giving to the local food bank or something more useful. So much wasted money to come up with things like this (gaming for x hours is like doing this or that drug)..... what a waste!

The scariest thing ever, after playing one of the GTA games for 2 days straight when it was released, I actually dreamed about playing GTA. I was trying to complete one of the stunt jumps to no avail, and the dream was me failing the stunt jump over and over and over lmao. FFXI was my first and last MMORPG ever.

I remember atari and pitfall too lmao. NES the last game I got before I got genesis was the karate kid I think. I can't even remember the genesis game I used to love, but it was about monsters, it was so badass.
