A pond in Glen Ellyn has become overrun with hundreds of dead fish.

Neighbors first noticed the floating fish carcasses a few days ago in a pond called Maryknoll in a small subdivision just east of 355.

They say the smell is awful.

The pond is a popular fishing spot full of bass, catfish and bluegill, but residents aren't sure what type of fish the dead ones are, nor is it clear why they have suddenly died.

Ok so this is now happening in
ponds ? on facebook people are saying it's just not that pond either
it's many in chicago. when will people start to see this is not normal
all of this animal death so much everyday all around the globe!

Can you tell me if it is just the fish rotting that you/they are smelling or are you/they smellling anything else - like sulfur for instance?

Ok honestly this **** is starting to creep me out. Ive been watching as millions of fish, birds, crabs, ect die off in nearly every single country on the planet. Now I see dead fish washing up in MY HOME TOWN? When something hits this close to home it really starts to make you wonder. Glen Ellyn is a beautiful town and in all my years living here I have never once heard of this happening. Honestly what is going on!?!?!

Well, we have lack of oxygen as one culprit, and now core heating. I don't think in my time of living (lol) have I ever seen such a mass of die-offs of different species in different locations. There has to be a combination of things that are inter-related.

They have been Fracking in Arkansas which has triggered many quakes. We fear that the underground gasses have be set in motion by the Fracking via underground Faults and fractures. Myself and others believe that this could also be the cause of the Birds deaths - we are following the whole area and state aroung the New Madrid Fault.

Here is our Arkansas Thread.

i think all of these deaths are warning signs of something, and if this was happening everyday like people suggest all the time and we just trip on it becuase of a faster news i think there would be no fish today
something is very abnormal here! i mean EVERYDAY this happens and sometimes more than once a day , these are warnings and we got
to figure out of what.

My guess is that that this occure when the earth i moving. For some reason is the oxygen running out when this happends? It could just be a couple of reason for this to happend?
The earth is streching a would say, time will tell

God bless!

Fish kills are often a natural summer and winter occurrence for ponds throughout the upper Midwest. Fish kills can be caused by a variety of things, but most often are associated with very low dissolved oxygen levels.
When water temperatures become very high, water has a lower affinity for holding oxygen and fish begin to stress and eventually die if the stressor is prolonged.
We have fish kills in ponds around here all the time. I live in Lake county (Wauconda). A few years back a friend of ours in Bull Valley, spent over $1000.00 to stock his pond even had DNR come out and check that he had done everything correct. All went well for a year, then Last spring he went out to his pond and had dead fish everywhere. Conclusion by DNR,. A an axcessive amount of vegetation that somehow messed with the oxygen levels.

We fish the Chain alot and we see fish kills up that way often.
It's not unusual. Ya just don't hear about it alot because people don't make a big deal of it. Since we have had the larger kills of birds and fish in the US people are paying more attention and reporting more often.

Contact Il. DNR and ask them. They will tell you it's not unusual.
