I was just watching flipping through the news and I got a U2U message saying I had new message and when I selected read it now. My antivirus popped up and windows anti virus popped up and the typical false window asking you to run what looks like antivirus but may not be the real deal but a fake window poping up. I was able to break off from the intrusion and shut it down. When I have more details of where the attacking Ip is coming from I will forward it along.

WTF

I thought # like this is screened. Its not like I went to a questionable site I just selected read new u2u message.

This is ####.

I use Avira and it goes mental on this site. It's been more quiet lately, maybe only one or two per session but there were times when every time I navigated to a new page on this site, I got a pop-up. I first thought maybe there were scripts that ATS designers used that were causing the alarms but I think it's just falsely flagging some of the advertising.

Nothing bad has happened to my PC. Just the annoyance of the AV constantly popping up virus warnings.

Yep!

Has been happening to me too. Although it happened to me randomly while browsing through ATS. I just got a message that says I have 2 unread messages. Perhaps I shall stay away from them now.

That's what happens when ATS sells out to advertisers. It's users get virus's that require services from the companies that gave you the virus!

To ATS staff:
Not ONE single time have I EVER clicked on an advertisement on your site. Nor will I EVER. So what's the point?

It was omne of 2 thing one message which I open when I got the u2u was ATS ADMIN a difficult subject this looks like the one which caused the antivirus to go on the offensive and there was another one which was not even opened yet by rainbow eagle regarding space people abductions and 2012. So it looks like I opened the first one when the U2U poped up. Deny Deny Deny.

Any mods want to tread on this one.

I've had similar problems, and I can assure you that this isn't confined to only ATS.. producers of viruses, malware, spyware etc. exploit ad networks to distribute their stuff.

I had the exact same thing happen to me on CNN.com, and other sites.

When it happens you should try to capture as much information as you can, and forward that to the site owners/admin.. Without specifics it is impossible to do anything about it.

I'm glad to see someone has brought this up . I have had problems like this since I have been on ATS . Have had to get the computer tech out here twice to remedy the problem . Although , I don't think I have ever experienced the problem by clicking on a u2u .

I do get the same thing though , the pop-up that says I have viruses . It gets really annoying , as there are times that I can't do anything about it to make it go away , and then it costs me money to pay someone to fix it .

The last time was just last month . I had to delete the desktop I was using and open another just to make it go away . It was that , or PAY to have it fixed again .

So , I had to open a new ATS account under a new user-name , after being a very active member for a year .

Yes , it is frustrating as hell .

Yeah I know....the guys who run ATS do a damn good job. I'm just more or less ranting about advertisers and their skeezy ways. I've just been getting annoyed lately with advertisements bombarding my life everywhere I go. Especially when advertisers are getting sneakier by increasing the chances that you will "accidentally" click their link. Like the ads that follow your mouse cursor until you click them.

anyways........./rant.

I learned not to open those from Admin............Those two you mentioned I deleted.........I am sure ATS is doing everything they can to stop such attacks ......but there is always away for “those” who wish to detour members from coming here through viruses …….Its the risk I guess we must take to be enlightened......just my thoughts......

I have never once gotten even a warning from my Anti-Virus on ATS. And I'm on here A LOT. Also clicked on those U2U's. No problem.

Fake anti-virus' will not always popup on the site you got it from. It can popup anytime after you've gotten it. Sometimes hours afterward. This is done to keep you from knowing where exactly it came from. The rogue anti-virus industry is a 34 million dollar a month enterprise. They're very good at what they do.

I will help anyone who asks get rid of them. But start with Malwarebytes Anti-malware if you can get it to run. Its free.

Switch to Linux.

Ubuntu is where "it's" at. .

John has the idea.
Nice to see there are a few real computer users amongst us. lol

and by the way..
you by no means need to be a "pro" or ""uber-geek" to use Ubuntu.

A lot of "big companies" already do use Linux, and have been for many years.
But many more are switching, it's true.

Ive even got my whole family (who are mostly computer illiterate) using Ubuntu, and only Ubuntu,
on na daily basis..
and they love it!

They have had no problems at all.

Im also in the process of switching all observatory computers over to Ubuntu.

All but one. lol

I use Firefox and Avast. Along with Malwarebytes and ccleaner. But Avira is good too. Linux and Ubuntu are good especially for internet. But I don't have any issues with Windows either.
