Rachel is telling only have the story here.

There are a lot of cities and towns in Michigan that are bankrupt and will have to go into receivership (welsh on their debts and lose property) .

They don't have the legal authority to break ridiculous contracts with government employee Unions and other agreements they have made and they can not pay what was politically extracted and bought with politicans' power.

What the State government did was give those towns and cities the power to reorganzie their debts and budgets so they would not have to go bankrupt. There are conditions that they be fiscally sound while reorganizing and that will have oversight. That is reasonable. The federal government did it with New York city in the 80's when the left dug them in a deep hole they could not get out of.

While I do not particularly like Unions nor do I believe that Public employees should have any right to Unionize, private sector employees should have that ability. What is good for Business is not necessarily good for the employees of that business or the City/County/State/Country where that business is located.

Emergency Manager Bills SB153 and HB4214
While the financial condition of this state is untenable and I understand that something needs to be done to reign in the out of control spending in our cities and counties. The problem as I see it is more at the state level than the local level, with some exceptions. Putting the ability to void union contracts and remove elected officials into the hands of one person labeled an emergency manager is irresponsible and may be unconstitutional; it would be unconstitutional at the Federal level. A financial oversight committee would be a better solution in my opinion. Less chance for bribes to be used to influence decisions.

You are wrong, actually the Constitution DOES dictate how the state manages itself:

Article IV - The States

Section 4 - Republican government

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

This law totally destroys any form of republican government at the state level. It allows a Governor to appoint people who can dismiss any local legislator who does not agree with his political point of views. It's completely anti-republican.

Um……… That is the US guaranteeing a republican form of government TO the states. It does not dictate what form of government the states have to guarantee to their people!

The states don’t even have to let their citizens vote for who the state supports for president. That is just something they do by formal agreement. Some handle it differently than others.

The local towns, and their officials/representatives are not covered by the constitution at all. The whole concept of towns/districts, and their associated people, is totally outside the scope of the constitution.

I found this thread startling. It immediately reminded me of the scene from STAR WARS EPISODE IV, A NEW HOPE in which **Governor** Tarkin delivers a speech to his Death Star council, explaining that the senate has been dissovled, along with the Republic. One of his councilmen questions how will the government maintain control without the beauracracy. Tarkin replies that the "regional governors" will maintain control.

When asked how they will enforce this, Tarkin's reply is chilling: "Fear. FEAR of this battle station..."

I searched for the actual scene, and I'm sure it's out there, but couldn't find it, as there are countless parodies. Still, I linked it so that you could get the gist.

This is happening in our country. Governors can appoint a single person who now has the authority to enter a community and dissolve its elected government.

Friends, we now live in the days of pre-WWII Germany. And we are the Germans. "They" TPTB (The Powers That Be) are playing us all with the same playbook they used back then.

And yes, BTW, I do believe that you should silence your cell phones prior to the beginning of a movie. Wink.

If you want know where the US is going, all you have to do is look at Argentina.
They have done all this and more not once, not twice, but three times in 50 years.
Don't believe it will happen in Umerica, look at Argentina. You are doing exactly the same thing as Argentina did. It is Inevitable, unavoidable and unstopable. Regradless of how many Bernanke Bucks gets printed.

I was right, it is basically company bankruptcy SOP(standard operating procedure), ported over to local government.

It is a tried and true playbook that has been laid out by the experience with countless large (and broke) companies.

As they say, what is good for the goose, is good for the gander.

Blaming unions isn't going to do it this time folks (yeah, we all know you do it for the stars). He isn't just attacking unions, he is attacking the fabric of the Republic, democracy.

I am so sick of the right wing BS about unions caused this, unions caused that... what about Wall Street?

Now we have power elite governors removing democracy itself.

If people don't wake up, get on the streets and do something about this – it is all going to be flushed down the toilet.

I don't care what political party you belong to – it sucks. Both the left and the right are the same (insert expletive here ending in 'ing') party.

How dare anyone not be fuming about this – how sick or brainwashed do people have to be to not see this for what it is?

We are on the Titanic and there are no life boats... I suggest people start working together to stop the water from coming in, or we are all going to drown.

I think the most anger filled moments I am getting is the simple desire to punch people in the face whom are the proud right pretending to be suprised about this. us looney left have been screaming about this crap coming for awhile, been ignored or laughed at..then suddenly, voila..it happens.

well, congrats..if you stand against this bill, your a freaking liberal, now go smoke a banana peel you freaking hippys.

Yes, I am glad the neocons are now stomping full force and showing who they are..smashing middle class, setting up regimes that can dismiss elected officals, having hearings about islam mosques being defunded due to some terrorists in islam lead by a guy whom fully supports the IRA, etc.

But then again, I am in full disgust mode and want to see things go nuclear..it isn't until the supporters stop touting their corporate masters line and open their eyes before things can change...so ya..bring it on...make the entire SCOTUS far right and establish a state religion and legislate morality, lets get conservatopia in full swing. Yay Iran style democracy.

Really is that right is it ?

The fact that the Republicans are CUTTING FUNDING to these towns and regions doesn't mean anything to you ?

The fact that most of the areas in the US today who are in financial trouble is due to teh corruption and straight out CRIMES of wall street as AAA rated securities which states, countries, towns etc put their funds into have all been stripped.

The fact that there is ABSOLUTELY NO BUDGET PROBLEM WHAT SO EVER - NONE - so if there is no problem , as evidenced over, and over, and over again - why do they keep saying there is, and why do you keep believing the lies ?

Simple - if you believe it then it is reasonable for them to strip you of your rights - you believe it - you lose. You don't believe it you win.

You made your choice - thank god I don't live in the US.

Dude, I hear you - I can't declare myself right or left because I am disgusted with all of them...
People in the USA won't rise up to fight, they are too lazy. I don't have faith in the people of the USA anymore, because the left and right have the people completely devided. These days - the only way to take the country back is to have a civil war between the civilians themselves - and then what ever side wins goes after the opposing political party. Instead of going after all of the parties involved together - we remain as devided as ever.

What a bunch of tools and fools 'we the people' have become. Shame on us all.

I am going to have an "End of the USA" party this summer - BYOB

Peace

Hold judgement on this everyone, Rachel here is as far left of the political spectrum as one can be and something tells me she isnt telling the entire truth on this bill. I would say we all need to check it out for ourselves first before the panic begins. Then if what we find supports what she is claiming then we better all pray.

But again, remember who is talking about this and her political affiliations before throwing all the eggs into her basket here.

Yes...ignore facts..facts have a liberal agenda...remember, if a liberal is against it, then you defacto must be for it.
best not to question and indeed do not research it on your own...just ignore it..because you don't like the person whom shined a light on it.

mhmm...whatever. enjoy your chains.

You know... I wouldn't feed Sara... go to her profile and look at her posts - you will find plenty of disgusting beliefs and thoughts.

It is sad that some people are so brainwashed they can't even see past their own parties lines. I am not talking about all Republicans and Dems... just a select few of them.

These issues are going to burn like wildfire across the USA... Welcome to our new country!

Division in ideas and ideals is typically a good thing when all play by the rules. Its when one side (or both sides, whatever) start doing illegal and simply anti-american things is when things need to be resolved in a very different manner.

Will America react...well, the issue is this. The right does horrible stuff...so they get voted out, the left comes in and rarely if ever repeals what they did (corrupted by the new sweet dictator type powers given by the previous administration).

We still have the bloody patriot act, we still have prisoners in gitmo, etc...the left may not have done it, but they certainly drag their feet in correcting it..this is not how it supposed to work. Both sides officals are being totally owned by some weird wave of dictator mindsets when given power...I don't know what happens when you win an election, perhaps they shoot a blowdart full of tool juice in you or something, but its time people start seeing the insides of prisons for actions done.

If this crap was done 100 years ago, there would be bullets flying

I don't know the solution either...I don't know if there is a solution...perhaps the only thing we the people can do now is just record it. The fall of american civilization. The march towards totalitarianism on a micro scale.

I have very little hope in the people of the country, or the politicians the people they elect. I enjoy parts of this country, but I have been around the world enough to know America is not some great shining example of anything whatsoever..be it freedom, opportunity, or even decent music...hell, its quickly becoming one of the worst straight across the board (except for quantity food shopping..we do make good fat arses). It won't change either, because should anyone suggest we try to improve anything, its met by a bunch of fat cheeseburger eating twits demanding the gub-ment not even suggest that we may need to improve.

grrr...ok, leaving for a bit...anger starting to boil...good luck try to deal with this.
