You missed the point.

You said that the next solar max would be intense or some such word. It will not. It is the lowest in 200 years unless that changes in the next 2 years which I doubt.

I've read conflicting accounts as far as NASA's concerned. Counting on autoritative sources, allowing others to do the math for you, is a natural thing to do. I wouldn't trust it entirely though. The suns activity is cyclic. A consistent change in the cycle is cause for alarm, regardless of whether it's sooner or later, higher or lower. There's more to solar activity than spots and flares. I suspect the sun is going to give us cause to lament sooner or later, thanks to the fact I was born sensitive, my instincts give warning of dangers my intellect cannot perceive, so I suspect and prepare. You may be right, it may be a waste of time and effort. But, with the way things are going I think that the individual who has no disaster preparedness plan, is likely to find himself a refugee and depending on society at the worst possible time.

No, I agree with you on that and I was not saying that people should not be prepared for some sort of disaster - take for example the subject of this thread and look what happened.

My only point was that there is no evidence of a forthcoming intense sunspot cycle but a great deal of evidence for a Maunder Minimum.

I am still trying to get confirmation, but it appears the PTWC has raised the magnitude to 9.1

Another big aftershock is occurring now, and this looks like it is more southern part of the zone. Probably 6+.

Yikes... 6.6 ... now reduced to 6.2

And in the area I was afraid that was going to happen... South but still north of the triple juncture...

earthquake.usgs.gov...

Maybe I should stop being afraid?

Jeez. That thing was located as a depth of only 1 km! MAN! That shallow for such a big quake? I believe that may be the most shallow one yet. That's enough to cause further damage on the mainland being that shallow... The nuclear situation...Oh man...

Unbelieveable amount of aftershocks - 5's and 6's.
Now we have the nuclear plants to worry about
as quakes just keep rolling in.

So you're saying you're expecting another 8.7-9+ earthquake soon? Within weeks? Days?

What will need to happen before it can calm down again?

This is sad...

No, I am not EXPECTING anything. I am just observing patterns. But at this point that zone is unstable, as is evidenced from the spreading of the quakes to directly on top of the line and their concentration. I am saying that is an extremely dangerous situation.

All I know is when the plates are not moving, they are probably caught on the edge of another plate. So, in reality, you would want the plates to move, that means all is good.

I am probably being stupid, plates may be able to just stop moving without getting caught, I am not sure.

But from what I know, them moving is a good thing, it is the stop moving that causes bad stuff.
