Just because I'm keeping count...

We have 40 quakes listed with a magnitude >2.
But that's not the whole story. They aren't posting the smaller ones.
In total there are about 100 quakes.

Now here's my story.
Since the very begining of this lastest flurry starting on Feb. 15, I watch the list. I was waiting to see the smaller ones listed. I checked and rechecked and nothing. Then yesterday I noticed the first 1.1 magnitude showed on the liste. I checked to see if it had been reviewed. It was. Then when I checked back ten minutes later to see if more small ones being added. I noticed that the 1.1 mag. had been removed.

Someone put up that quake and then someone decided that they weren't going to be posting the small quakes. Why?

Because it looks bad.
Back during the Yellowstone swarm that started on Boxing Day 2008, Chris Sanders went on You Tube and warned people Yellowstone was about to blow. With his video camera he took a picture of the list of earthquakes on the USGS site. It had all the little small ones and there were hundreds. The government threatened to sue him for fraud because the USGS logo was on the screen shot.

Why is the list of quakes only have 40 quakes and not the 100 actual quakes. Perception.
They are purposely playing down the size. So in their minds, as not to create undue panic.

Censorship. This recent swarm does not consist of 40 quakes, or the only the two +3 that the media refer. This swarm consists of 100 quakes of varying sizes. Don't discount the small quakes.

Kathy you are the only person I believe because you are right there in the midst of it. The Solar Flares are like an hour away? i wander if the seismic activity will increase due to the solar flares?

try to keep us updated Kathy and stay vigilant !

Hey everybody,

I hate to be "that guy" who asks questions about things he could probably figure out himself, but I don't have a lot of time on my hands recently to do that.

Anyways, my question is, I live in Georgetown, Kentucky currently, (Northern part of Kentucky) what are the precautions I should take if this EQ is in fact going to happen? Would this be deadly for me and my family? How intense will the shaking be? Am I safe? And will this effect buildings around me at all? Will the water be safe to drink around here?

Thanks for any help you guys can give me. And this thread is great, S&F.

Another one - your nerves must be getting a bit frayed. Please keep us updated when you can, much appreciated and please stay safe.

I understand the storm from the flare is just beginning to enter earth's atmosphere.

As I've watched the swarm in Arkansas over the last couple months. I have also noted the earthquakes in Oklahoma and near New Madrid.

Oklahoma has gone quiet and so has Madrid. The only place rocking in the area is Arkansas. Oh, how did Central Arkansas become the center of my focus? I'm used to watching volcanoes. How did I get fixated on a sleepy rural part of the deep south?

Why is Arkansas the center of the universe right now? Our year started there when the birds started falling during the very first moments of the year. I don't believe in magical signs. But I know when there is something abnormal and important, and that's why I never took my eyes off this place. My gut said don't forget about Arkansas. Let the world walk away. You stay because there is a bigger story and that story is important.
Earth shatteringly important.

Robin, this is exactly what I am thinking right now. In fact, how come these last two sizeable quakes have yet to be reported???

Robin I would think with this being such a vunerable area right now all quakes would be listed. There have been a lot of them - what would you expect to happen if they stopped for hours, would that be good or not? I read all that you report, just wanted to let you know its much appreciated.

I checked out the various headlines and stories on yahoo, and am least glad they are making MSM news.

However, I hated when the one seismologist tried to downplay it ( as they usually do and stated that there won't be anything over a mag 6.0 major quake in the future....

how would he know that?

Utter ignorance....this is going to be the "we gotta keep'em all calm" period in the MSM.....

they HAVE to report the news on the quakes, cuz otherwise we'd all find out through text msg, twitter, Facebook, etc...

but they will totally downplay it until the end

That stupid quote was nothing more than a typical shill disinfo tactic.

Funny how they say not to expect anything more than a 6.0 mag quake at best when historical data has already shown us that the NM produced three 7.0 - 9.0 mag quakes in the span of 90 dayss back in 1811/1812.

These government errand boys kill me sometimes.

Westcoast- if you were shown the plot that posted a few minutes ago, and you didn't know where the location was, what would you say about that tremor?
I will get to my point. Does that look like a harmonic tremor?
I honestly don't know my butt from a hole in the ground about seismograph readings.

I don't believe you will be near the epicenter of a big quake. But it's possible. You are near enough that you will be affected. The sandsoils allow the siemic waves to travel very far. So there is a real risk. I believe that February is Earthquake Preparedness Month. So there may be things in your communtiy that have been organized. Get out there and find out what you should do. There's a drill by the Goverment in May to practice what to do in case of an earthquake. Get involved and empower yourself by knowing the facts. Then when it happens you won't be running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. You'll have a plan and be too busy enacting your plan to be freaked out and panicked. Prepare, plan and pray.

So have they stopped auto reporting on the bigger ones too?

Judge for youself.

Here is the 2.7 from earlier at 22:06:

Now here are the last two recent quakes yet to be reported:

Edit to add:

@Butcherguy: possibly. That is what I would suspect if I were looking at a seismo on a volcano. he first one may have been two small quakes close together.....that prolonged (4 min) rumble before the last quake? I don't know what it means....movement? Puterman? Robin???

edit on 17-2-2011 by westcoast because: (no reason given)

There's always a lag before the review them. They look like 2.9/2.8. They should be listed soon.

I'm wondering how long it will take for them to provide a real and complete list of ALL the quakes.

We just got the total BBBSSS on THV news, Oh, this is normal there is nothing to be concerned about, and you could so clearly see that he was lying. I am so tired of the lies, on another thread Federation of American Scientist, they reconstituted the H1N1 virus from 1918 when it killed over 50 million people, so to think that HAARP wouldn't hit us with a major New Madrid Quake. Wake up people, the only reason the H1N1 didn't kill 100's millions of people is because our immuine systems are so damaged it didn't over react. People just can't get their heads wrapped around the idea, that we are expendible.
