I guess there really is still segregation in the US. This is sad but true ... from the black golfer ... tothe black tennis players ... to the black owned businesses. Sad, that this exists ... so much division ... and we wonder why that the U.S. is headed in the Direction that it is .. We can't even stop the hate here in America much less other places .... Seriously ... And its not all White people or Hispanics ... it is alot on the shoulders of the black community itself ... i talked to a really good friend of mines mom the other day ... and she stood there and told me .. how he didn't have the same opportunities as I did growing up ... I couldn't say anythign out of respect to my elders .. but seriously ... why is she lying to herself ... Why is she lying to her kids ... no wonder he can't get out of the depression that he is in ... Its reinforced by his own MOTHER. SO SAD.

Yes segregation does exist and to be honest I do not see it ending anytime soon. Both sides are just too unwilling and disenchanted with each other to come together.

A lot of minority groups have been socially brought up to want nothing to do with caucasian people and in some regards it is predictable but at some point the finger needs to be pointed both ways.

Being a racist always gets dumped on white people but I have witnessed first hand the racism that goes on in the black communities toward white people.

Really we have all been tricked into thinking we are any different from one another. If you look into someones eyes you can see that we are all the same, our looks are just different.

As for black people not having the same opportunities as white people... In a lot of cases it is the truth even if it is hard to swallow. How does a kid born in the ghetto with parents who don't work or make barely enough to live get out of that area? The schools are terrible the people who these kids look up to are no better so it is no wonder they struggle to make a life for themselves. At some point the system needs to take the blame because it really does set them up for failure as much as people don't want to accept that.

I agree with this. When I'm with my friends, me being white, and the other is black and other middle eastern, we never singled out people, maybe for respect of the other. If they told a story it was the jerk behind the wheel, not the white, black, spanish, middle eastern jerk behind the wheel.

It is hard to educate the ignorant, it is reinforced by parents, grandparents, family and friends. My bf grandmother is black and she actually told me that, All jewish smell and have big noses. It is shocking that someone who went through such torment of 1960's and the past will be willing stereotype people. I love everyone and try not to judge, it is only when I know you can I think anything different then just a person.

The blame for this ever present phenomena in our country rests squarely on the shoulders of TPTB, and their media. They perpetuate this division between black and white, black and black, and so on, ad infinitum. It helps to keep the people of the country divided, conquered, and unable to become one voice on anything. And let's not forget the media's use of the so-called black leadership in this country who have stabbed their own people in the back over and over again, as well as perpetuate the division. Repetition used on the human mind works! If you tell someone repeatedly, and long enough, they have no chance of rising above their circumstances, and it's those peoples fault, they'll not only believe it, they'll stop trying, and start hating. And they will teach their children the same. And therefore, it's kept alive, generation after generation.

I don't believe segregation doesn't work. It's up to the parent to not segregate a child and reinforce that through its early life.

Ever occur to you that maybe - just maybe - your mother's friend was telling the truth?

Similarly, ever occur to you that the reason CNN has a listing for "black-owned businesses" might be because black people really do have trouble getting the loans needed to start a business, thus making black-owned business statistics something of a measure of how equal our society is?

You strike me as someone who's not paying very much attention to the subject you're talking about.

OP, I'm not too sure where the the problem is and how it relates to the article you linked. Do you feel it is segregation because black business seem to be thriving. I'm not too sure about the intent behind you thread. Please explain.

I think the issue is that there is something called "Black business" in the first place.

Yep, the best you can do is teach your children otherwise. I don't use any type of race word. In truth, there is no situation in which you will need to describe the color of skin other than an when someone needs to find a person ASAP. At that, you just say black skin color, not black male.

I used to grow up in this world thinking all grown ups were just that, grown ups. haha NOPE.

Who was it that said “You make your own opportunities.”?

I’m a firm believer that racism has its basis in language. How many times have we watched the nightly news and never noticed the color of the reporter? Even though he may be from another race. But as soon as they have a report from someone who has a heavy accent you take notice of their background.

Essentially your accent and grammar must match the accent and grammar of the company you want to work for. Perhaps your friend reached the age of maturity without being taught to speak like the majority from the business world.

Seems like everything in this world today is statistical. They break everything down into some sort of category. To get numbers. But it kinda seems the OP is saying its a problem that black owned businesses are thriving..... Mainly by the title of the thread and the sternness in the tone of the post. Thats what i'm not understanding.

I always try to add something to a thread. I really do. But this race stuff has got to stop. Please. Who gives a hoot the amount of melanin in someones epidermal cells?
Really.

If the racists want to be racists, then by god, let them. Every time they open their mouths, it just proves how stupid they actually are.

Please forgive the rant and carry on, just wanted to "chime in" on this racist tripe!

I honestly think if it weren't for all the reminders we get all the time from the media/entertainment or pretty much anything we watch, then we wouldn't even have to think about things like segregation or even think differently toward a certain ethnicity.

The PEOPLE out there today get a lot less credit than they deserve. Today, the majority of the ordinary masses passively think of all people the same, it's articles like the one in your OP, utterly ridiculous articles, that do absolutely NOTHING other than give the reader doubts as to whether everyone is really one, together. I mean who cares if black businesses are doing well? That can only be a good thing no doubt, but to highlight as major news is to possibly imply the notion that "hey, these guys aren't meant to be doing so well, coz, you know...they're black".....

I'm not being argumentative but I seriously don't see where is there a race issue in the article posted.
If it were about homosexual business owners would it be any different. Or maybe if the article was strictly about the decline of white owned businesses?

Well here in cleveland. I walk into the store and a grown man twice the strength and younger than I gets 300 in free food with the food card as well as every single black person driving a lexus hummers and every other make of new cars and getting everything for free then trying to sell the food stamps on the side. I feel the segregation is defenitly in effect. Tired of the loud mouth talking and in your face blackification of the country forced race mixing . I say keep it. Throwing trash all over the streets and beach. While a vet in a wheelchair cannot get a dime of support. Im tired of it and the destruction of the country is the result. Sorry just what I see.

i was flipping thru the channels last week and on Tyler Perry Meet the Browns "look at that White Boy try and dance"..

BET, NAACP, national association of black engineers, national assoc of professional black women, on and on and on.. special programs in the military for blacks to become officers, special programs for blacks to become coaches, etc. etc. affirmatice action in all city, county, state, and federal jobs, scholarships, grants, student loans, home loan programs, etc..

Many Blacks think we don't have their permission to use the "N-word" but many blacks throw it around constantly..Most get furious if they heard about 3rd hand of some "white boy" or "cracker" using the word.. how ironic.. i want to start using the "N-word" jsut to show I don't need some racist blacks permission to use an English word "my language btw"

Blacks are applauded and encouraged to be racist.-- a white guy walking thru a black neighborhood is MUCH more likely to be harmed, robbed, or killed than a black walking thru a white neighborhoood.

I grew up in the late eighties/early nineties with at more black friends than white, listening to P.E., NWA, Dr DRE, Snoop, Master P etc.. but by the time I was 28 or so I had enough of "white boy" type comments..yet they would cry and tantrum if they heard thru a friend of a friend of a cousin that one day somewhere someone said "n-word"

my stats:
part white part cherokee (my grandfather [almost full cherokee, he looked it] was not allowed to go to the "white" school) hence was relegated to be a coal mining SLAVE..like many other southerners were.
my wife is mixed race black/white/asian. so brign on the racist accusations.

then went to work construction in california after military to be discriminated and shafted by the Mexicans (who are allowed and encouraged to be just as racist)

when will the madness stop? unfirtunately i feel not until every stepped on and over white male says ENOUGH!! who's ancestors built, invented and shared what? look at scandinavia and europe then look at africa...enough said.

I would like to recommend for you a book I found facinating - The Author is Erik Rush; the Title is Negrophilia: From Slave Block to Pedestal - America's Racial Obsession

His book studies the undue and inordinate affinity for blacks (as opposed to antipathy toward them) that has been promoted by activists, politicians and the establishment press for the past 40 years and which has fostered an erroneous perception of blacks, particularly in America.

The book dissects the dynamic of race relations and race politics with an emphasis on same since the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, how these are likely to develop given a Barack Obama presidency, and how conscientious Americans may discern the deeper truths of these matters and thus develop healthier perceptions.

BTW Erik Rush is a black author and his book is basically in line with the thoughts of Alan Keyes, Bill Cosby and other successful black personalitites so please let's not go down the "racist" rat hole.

This is just a recommendation of reading related to the topic.
