Well, I can only think of one reason it would debunk Christianity, Christians "follow" Jesus Christ, give over their "heart, mind, and will" to this godman, all I want to do is show them who their depiction of God really is. Both characters are made up by the Church, and I am not the one who originally discovered this, I posted a quote from a website, remember? I am simply bringing the information to bear, for a lively discussion, which is certainly is that. I want every christian that reads this to know who they are praying to next time they say a prayer. I don't care if Christianity dies or not, not my problem, not my agenda. I only try to show those who do not read their own holy book what is really in there, and who their gods really are. Nothing more, or less.

I don't know about that, friend. Look here at the hits:
www.bing.com... (9,110 results) Apparently I am not alone in this thinking. A former Catholic Priest first told me about this, over 5 years ago. He had left the church after a few years research into the Latin Bible.

Generally on ATS, any Christianity themed thread is instantly attacked.

to know the correct answer for that question, you have to ask these questions first:

How many people have died in the past 3000 years because of Christianity? How many women were burned at the stake, including Joan of Arc, for witchcraft? How much money has been spent "helping the poor African people" when most goers to warlords? What about Christian minister telling parents to pour acid down the throats of children for something they are not even aware exists? And why does the Christian Right have the president's ear, while the rest us us citizen are ignored?

Absolutely gemineye. Anyone with a working knowledge of the Bible can use it to prove, or dis-prove, anything at all. some tell me I should be a televangelist, that I could become a millionaire. Money means not a thing to me, truth does.

Your "research" is a search that returns 9,100 results and hearsay from a former Priest? Congratulations, you've set a new standard for inanity.

Other options you might research are:
Garfield wrote the new testament (239,000 results)

Steve Miller (of the Steve Miller Band) wrote the New Testament (773,000 results)

Gandhi wrote the New Testament (338,000 results)

So, "born researcher", which is it? Cartoon character? Rock icon? Hero of the nation of India? Or the Piso family?

Other religions have caused death as well. You don't see Christians strapping bombs to themselves and blowing themselves (and who ever is unlucky enough to be in their vicinity) up.

Just sayin'..

I still don't fully understand but I am too tired to debate anymore (at least for today, anyway
)

Have a good night.

Thank you for proving just how ridiculous the book is, that it even exists, has a name "Bible", and just how easy it is to get people to believe in anything.

Next you will tell us that Jesus said to read your "Bible". Or how pleased he was with religious teachers and authorities we now call Church.

I am of a firm belief that if the guy reappeared he would do some serious ass-whoopin of pretty much every congregation out there,, and in fact this IS going to happen.

Jesus said that to achieve eternal life, simply love God and love everyone like yourself. Things that go beyond that are, I agree, likely irrelevant. However, as Christ was a Jew, and the Jews had scripture (which Christ himself read,) it seems unlikely that he would take issue with a book that sought to further his teachings. Where it might distort those two fundamental commandments, I would have an issue with, but I've yet to see anyone who is able to demonstrate that anything in the New Testament is contradictory to them.

Propaganda anyone?

What better way to discredit a coming God, whether Jesus or anyone else, than to discredit him before he gets here?

The Vatican is one of, if not the most, powerful organization in the world, and it's been that way for quite some time. They would do anything to preserve that power. The only thing/person that could remove that power would be God, or a human equivalent. It makes sense that if anyone other than Jesus himself came up and said they were God, the first people who would NOT follow him would be the Catholics and Christians. It would immediately set up the scenario in the Revelations, which was added after the fact and was not originally in the Old Testament.

If I were the Vatican, and I knew Jesus was not going to return... I would certainly say that he would return and then try to make people believe that anyone else who was NOT Jesus as depicted in the Bible would most certainly be the anti-christ. So, if we do get some benevolent, loving being that tries to tell us that the Church is wrong and has lied to us, most people will automatically associate that individual as the anti-christ and the war of the Apocalypse becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

They want us to believe that whoever appears to be "bringing the light" to the people is labeled the anti-christ, which is most likely not going to be true.

My question is - How will we know the difference when that day comes?

~Namaste
edit on 25-1-2011 by SonOfTheLawOfOne because: (no reason given)

You'll know the difference when the day comes. The Vatican can be the equivalent of the ego, demanding more and more, wanting more and more power. When the opposite comes, the human spirit, they'll throw a tantrum knowing their end is short and they can no longer suck people's energies for their own.

Why do not Christians just get rid of the rest of the book then, and just focus on the words of Jesus...forget Paul and ANYONE else, don't need them.

Far too much time and effort is spent with all this other crap, and it is surely keeping the people from rising to the levels they should, and can achieve if they REALLY walked and talked with "God".

Yes, that is true, so far. Who now about tomorrow? My Mom married a man years ago, after my step Dad was killed in a car wreck. His name was Jack. Jack was a devout Christians, they went to church even when the road were not fit. One bad thing about Jack, he was a closet racist, hated black people with an unholy passion. He often said to me he would kill any black man who came near him or his car. Would he have done it? Maybe, I do not know. The thing is, we all have some evil in us. Cannot deny this, even the most devout harbor black thoughts, you are lying to yourself if you say you don't. At any time anyone of us could snap and kill people, it has happened many times before. A trained soldier is a soldier for the rest of his or her life, ask any soldier. This Nation was built by Traitors with guns. We Americans have been basically thrown out of every other Nation in the world, we are mutts. And it is time we all woke up!

And that is my point. A few lyrics from a song...
"Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said ’we are all just prisoners here, of our own device’
And in the master’s chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can’t kill the beast"

Friends, we all have both good and evil within us. We walk a fine balance to keep from doing evil. How many years have the religious folks been trying to kill the Beast? Many years. Still alive, they say.

We are prisoners here on Earth, to think not is to have no eyes to see. We were created as a slave race, it seems, and the Forces beyond our control keep on trying to make it worse. Let us throw off the chains, and be free once more, free in Spirit is Freedom. Fear is the master of organized religion, plain and very simple. Fear the Devil, Fear God, Fear Everything. I belong to a local town forum, and people in there label everything not Christian or of the bible as Evil with a capital E. Every alien being is a demon, and even I am a demon for attempting to wake them up a little. It's time to stop being afraid. What's to fear, anyway, death? Just a small change, you will be surprised at how easy it really is. Like tuning in a new station on a radio.

I can't speak for all Christians, naturally.

However, I have spent the last six months (or so) reading the New Testament, aloud, little bits and pieces at a time, each day. Not a day seems to go past that I don't pick out some nugget of wisdom or insight into my life, the struggles that I face, and the words of so many wise people from 2,000 years ago. They speak to me, today, in 2011. Words directed to a man who struggles with pain and sorrow in a world that has no connection to the tent making Paul, or James, who struggled to keep the Jew in Jesus.

There is value there. You may not find it, but if you are content with Christ's two commandments, you don't need it. For one like me, it is treasure that helps me make sense of life. Let it be so.

Hmmmm I never really thought about it that way...At least not specifically so.......interesting Idea, I might have to ponder that possibility a bit. It certainly makes sense.....Them suggesting that any new religious figure would automatically be the AntiChrist simply to keep their own power, I mean. Yeah, I could buy that, certainly.

Enlil and Enki = Christ and Satan...this topic made no sence to me untill I did the Sumerian gods study. The study brought me to realise that God, quite possibly Marduk not Anu, is alive and breathing.

For the sake of not arguing I gotta say that religion in and of its self is man made. Quantum thinking if you will. Seeing around a corner without looking. Probabilities that something exists around that corner and even describing what is there without actually seeing it. For people to argue about it is ridiculious. Nobody here today was there then....This is called FAITH...now can I get an Amen!

To the OP: let me know when you get your hands on the original books of the Holy Scriptures. I am talking about the ones Constantine put together. Not the set that showed up after Constantine was killed.

If you look at his original closing comments..."Christians act as you would expect demons to look" or that "Christians believe in nothing but their Bible"...that is a genralization of a stereotype... and the notion that Christians won't enjoy reading his post...again notions based on a generalization. If you read the post, there is a subtle resentment of Christianity...and the way to strike out at his negative feelings of the faith is to punch a hole in it by equating Jesus with Lucifer...ie Satan.

This is where I detect contention and contempt for the Christian faith.

Again, it is unfortunate that the poster's interactions with these "christians" have caused negative feelings. Not all Christians hit you on the head with a Bible... so to speak.

What?

You guys are totally wrong about all of this.

Lucifer is my neighbors pet dog.
And Jesus is my Mexican friend.

True facts.

You guys were way way off.

To try to enlighten [no pun intened] people on any truth other than what they have been taught to believe, is when you discover just how close minded people can be. Most Christians will tell you the only true word of God is the King James version of the Bible. When it was King James that totally corrupt the Bible in order to establish the one Church of England. The old testement names many gods and goddesses. King James made them all one God. In Genesis, the god, was El , In the original translantion of Kings, it was the goddess Astarte that got the fire started from above. I brought up in another thread the other day that Jesus was quoted as saying at the very end of Revelations, that he would return as the "bright and morning star". They are terrorified to read the Nag Hammadi text [ books that were in the original Bible, but were taken out 380 AD. by the Nicene Council]
My neighbor even says, "If it is not in the Bible, then I can't read it". But he can read all the books about ET's being Demons and Fallen Angels. The Nag Hammadi Gospel are the most uncorupt gospels that exists. They were not discovered until 1945, even though the Catholic church has had copies hidden away for eons. Because the Nag Hammadi is translated from the origionial text and does not have all the Kings English wording, [like, thee, thou, therefore etc] they don't believe it. America was where all of the people in England wanted to go to have freedom of religion, but they read nothing but the tyrannt King James Bible, who tried to create one religion and one Church, The church of England. Here is the link to the Nag Hammadi texts. I don't believe you will go to hell if you read it:

Good thread OP and i agree with you, Lucifer, Jesus and Christ all refer to the same archetype.

To add to the thread i would like to mention that Satan is not the name of an individual either.

Satan is a hebrew term that means " THE ACCUSER".

Personally i think Satan probably derived from Seth Aten, the brother of Osiris, just as Christ stems from KRST which is the name of Horus.

The overthrown pharaohs were the Hyksos who were banished to the Sinai, their language became Hebrew.

Much of the Old and New Testaments are re-translated/rehashed histories of ancient Egypt(Khemit) and Sumer.

Cosmic...

NO ONE is perfect. NO ONE is purely good or evil. People are good & bad combined, so why couldn't Jesus have been also. Maybe they just wrote stories about the good side of him versus the bad side, kind of like a person with multiple personalities.
