I'm sure he had a conceal and carry permit if this person had a gun in a public place meaning he would have been required to partake in higher firearm safety education... He showed restraint. I think it's a testament to the importance of education in the areas of firearm safety. (which to be honest I think should be required to own a firearm not just to hunt. Education, especially with something so dangerous is always needed.)

This did not happen.. If we lived life around the shoulda coulda wouldas then I don't think we would have any freedoms left.

Do you not take into account that areas with the highest gun crime rates are also have the most restrictive gun laws?

I own a firearm. I use it for hunting and recreational shooting. I also have been through gun safety courses.

I have never pointed my firearm at anyone nor used it for a haneous crime. I know how to carry, store and transport it safely and am what I feel is a very responsible gun owner. I shoot targets with it and the occasional game (which I do for the purpose of supplying a nice quantity of meat for my dinner table). Should I have to give up my responsible gun ownership because someone almost shot someone who was stopping a madman!? Or because the madman decided to kill some people for his own reasons? His own fault?

As a firearms advocate it does not mean I think there should no gun laws at all. I just disagree with using an isolated incident as reason to jump the gun so to speak.

No it isn't. They still got the guy without having to shoot him, even though they were carrying.

And he didn't shoot anyone else, either. Like the poster above me said, he showed restraint and maturity. Not unlike millions of other legal American gun owners, who possess their weapons and even carry them concealed in public every single day.

you are falling the point...

a man without the use of a gun disarmed him and a man with a gun nearly killed the innocent...

I understand what you are saying and it is a far point. I was just trying to highlight the sad folly of guns.what about the freedom of the housands of kids die every year in america because of guns. This very sad and unacceptable. something needs to be done and in my eyes there are two factors involved: guns and culutre and here i am addresing just one of those factors..guns....

Come and get them then...........................

Or are you waiting and hiding behind the skirt of others to see what happens before you feel it’s your right to go door to door and make your demands????
Like I said before, you don’t have a right to preach to me about my laws in my country; you’re in your happy place so why bother with us. Once again people have that freedom to move someplace else, they have no right coming in and trying to change years of history with one swipe of their hand. We see what it’s done for you, regardless of where you get your facts; it’s all a back and forth game. But assure you this, when the gun grab starts in the US, the world will see more death then ever before.

Everyone talks about when the day will come when TSHTF, I’m guessing when those knocks start to happen more frequent and more visible. But to be the sad sap who gets tasked with it by some alphabet group sitting behind a safe desk will be another hurdle they will have to jump first.
There wont be a huge build up of back applications for that job once the first few set of guys come back from knocking.

I am not saying that everyone that owns a gun is a phycho killer.I know that there are many responsble peeps out there.
But in my eyes guns are vilolent and so is killing animals for recreational reasons...

mb a little food for thought...

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated” Mahatma Gandhi

guns have a single purpose.. violence...

After he shot 19 people, the man disarmed the shooter. The bystander with the gun did not kill anyone, or almost kill anyone.

If more people were armed at this event, he might've only got off a couple rounds before being taken down.

Well I don't kill animals for recreation. I kill them to eat. Big difference.

I shoot targets for recreation..

Firearms are tools of whatever you use them for..

For some it's violence. For some it's protection.. For others it's survival. Some gun owners have never shot at anything but an aluminum can or a clay pigeon (like a frisbee you throw it into the air and shoot it with a shotgun..
I would never condone shooting a rifle into the air for obvious reasons and is actually one of the key lessons in firearms safety courses.).

For the record I also do not condone killing animals just for the fun of it.. Eat it or don't do it at all.

No if more people are armed then events like this are more likely to happen. It is like nuclear wepons..do you think the world would be a safer place if all countries had them so they could defend themselves or do you think it would be more likely to cause a nuclear war..

If you cant read from most of the reply's here, there is no debate for this subject. Its your personal view your trying to cram upon us and I disagree so Im wrong. You surely think you know whats best for us when you refer to tourching a few shops and raising some hell (both we all know you had not one single ounce of energy doing), but with those bold words of yours, may I ask....... why did you stop?? Did you all get beat down, or are you more like a dog that doesnt like being snuck up on and snaps at you when you walk by??
I dont expect you to be the type of person to reason with considering our views, but if you notice, Im still allowing you to have yours, yet you keep trying to "force" me to accept yours.
By you not liking guns, doesnt make you the god that can demand them to be gone, just dont go places that allow guns, its pretty simple.
Your cry for al the children that die from guns is old an worn out, "For The Children" ran out in the early 90's

Farmers use fertilizer for their crops.. But they can also (/gasp) make bombs with it!!! BAN FERTILIZER! I bet Jared would have been a lot more deadly with fertilizer wouldn't you say?

You can make weapons of death with almost anything.. Should we ban everything that has the potential to be used as a weapon of death?

What about knives? Not just for cooking and a heck of a lot more silent than a gun... Lots of people are good at throwing them with deadly precision...

How about we ban pillows.. That has been a weapon in countless murders... Pillow control anyone?

How about we ban hairspray because you can create a flamethrower with it...

Or perhaps we should ban trees because their branches have been used to beat people to death..

Matches and Gasoline? Heavy gauge chain? How about cars that kill more people each year?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre.... Axe murderers..

How about bamboo? I can make a nice sturdy blowgun out of that stuff.. Or perhaps we should ban steel cable (garrote)...

How about water because so many people are drowned to death?.. I say water and cars are probably the biggest weapons of mass destruction on earth!

This is my opinion and it is just as valid as yours is and if you cannot present a decent argument please refrain from personal insults.. really there is no need. People tend to make personal attacks when they are loosing a debate...there is no need to!
It is a debate my friend...
It is not me that is going to take you guns. It is not my government that is in talks with the UN regarding gun control. so no it wont be me demanding your guns it will be your government...Im having a discusion on it just for the cracks..lets keep it that way
and its best to not sum my up in the above paragraph you dont know me and you are wrong. If you would like to know anything just ask

happy days.

Yes you can make a wepon of death out of many things. It is the availability of guns and ease of use that makes them a problem....

I have far more knives in my house than guns.. I also have about a dozen pillows. A gas can (and a lighter cause i'm a smoker). Some hairspray.. I nice sturdy baseball bat. Nice sturdy chain, bunch of 2x4's (boards), 2 trucks and 2 nice swinging lengths of steel pipe..

Believe me swinging a pipe is a lot easier than using a firearm. It's all in the wrist!

That's just what I can think of.. I'm sure most everyone else in this forum can compile much longer and more dangerous list. If you want to talk about availability of weapons believe me man you do not need a gun if you want to kill someone. That is a bad argument man.

we are trying to deny ignorance here right? ....hows is comparing a firearm to a WMD correct or credible, the problem I see that most anti gun people have is they believe banning guns will stop bad people from existing, it's illogical, and kinda like living in a fantasy land, we need practical solutions to curbing violence, not fantasy answers that can never exist, because violent people are the problem not guns, stopping violence is the answer not stopping self defense

it was a metaphor and the metaphor remains valid..

yes i am sure you could kill peep(s) with the above. but i think it would require a lot more energy to do so. It is harder to commit mass murder at the mall with a knife as oposed to a gun. Maybe you could make an incendiary device or a bomb with the above. That requires knowledge and skill. It could be done but again it requires a lot less to use a gun...

What skill? A nice long fuse.. some stuff that goes boom and a lighter...

Sure if you want to get all technical maybe, heck a model rocket igniter (I know this because model rocketry was a hobby as a child) will give you your little push button boom effect.

But really.. no skill required...

He could have brought a nice long machete in there.. Threaten the people, ordered them to do whatever and then chop chop!

Look what a bunch of terrorists did with box cutters..
