A few Michael Moore quotes....

They (Americans) are possibly the dumbest people on the planet ... in thrall to conniving, thieving, smug pricks, he replied. We Americans suffer from an enforced ignorance. We dont know about anything thats happening outside our country. Our stupidity is embarrassing.

I like America to some extent.

The motivation for war is simple. The U.S. government started the war with Iraq in order to make it easy for U.S. corporations to do business in other countries. They intend to use cheap labor in those countries, which will make Americans rich. The U.S. government claims to bring democracy to Iraq; however, no country in the world takes such an assertion seriously. It is an illusion."

"There is virtually NO ONE in America (talk radio nutters and Fox News aside) who is gung-ho to go to war. Trust me on this one."

"Of the 535 members of Congress, only ONE (Sen. Johnson of South Dakota) has an enlisted son or daughter in the armed forces! If you really want to stand up for America, please send your twin daughters over to Kuwait right now and let them don their chemical warfare suits. And let's see every member of Congress with a child of military age also sacrifice their kids for this war effort. What's that you say? You don't THINK so? Well, hey, guess what -- we don't think so either!"

"Finally, we love France. Yes, they have pulled some royal screw-ups. Yes, some of them can be pretty damn annoying. But have you forgotten we wouldn't even have this country known as America if it weren't for the French? ... And now they are doing what only a good friend can do -- tell you the truth about yourself, straight, no b.s. Quit pissing on the French and thank them for getting it right for once."

"Many families have been devastated tonight. This just is not right. They did not deserve to die. If someone did this to get back at Bush, then they did so by killing thousands of people who DID NOT VOTE for him! Boston, New York, DC, and the planes' destination of California--these were places that voted AGAINST Bush!"

the passengers were scaredy-cats because they were mostly white. If the passengers had included black men, he claimed, those killers, with their puny bodies and unimpressive small knives, would have been crushed by the dudes."

You know he's [Bush] there illegally. You know he was not elected either by the popular vote or by the vote in Florida.

we know all those facts about Florida and what Katherine Harris did, and the private firm that took African-Americans off the voting rolls and prohibited them from voting. But I've been surprised in this first week how many average Americans were not aware of all of the trickery and deceit that took place in the year before the election to fix it for George W. Bush.

Democrats should be on their knees thanking Ralph [Nader] for running. Rather than taking votes from Gore, Ralph's going to be the one responsible for turning the House back over to the Democrats.

The United States is continuing to fake evidence against Iraq.

"If our government won't represent us, then we must rely on other governments to do so, and we need the help of people all over the world."

"'President' Bush is hell-bent on going to war in Iraq and killing tens of thousands more innocent Iraqi civilians. He is putting the lives of hundreds of thousands of American troops at risk, and for what? A twelve year old grudge from his father's administration and a disgusting addiction to the bubbling crude that got him 'elected.' He justifies this war with unproven claims of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, plagiarized and dated 'intelligence reports' taken from magazines and grad students, and conveniently timed audio tapes from Osama bin Laden."

"So what do you tell his parents, hmm? What did he die for? To protect America? No. So what's the reason? What would Haliburton (the US oil giant formerly run by Vice-President Dick Cheney and now helping to rebuild Iraq) say if they knocked at the door? 'Sorry your son died, but I think we're going to get that oil as a result of it. So hey, come on, cheer up. At least Arnie can fill up his Hummer now.'

"The Iraqis who have risen up against the occupation are not "insurgents" or "terrorists" or "The Enemy." They are the REVOLUTION, the Minutemen, and their numbers will grow -- and they will win. Get it, Mr. Bush? You closed down a friggin' weekly newspaper, you great giver of freedom and democracy! Then all hell broke loose. The paper only had 10,000 readers! Why are you smirking?"

You know, I've seen all the MM threads, I've read all the opinions but I've never posted because I don't have a whole heck of a lot to contribute except to say that I like the guy. I don't care what anyone says, he strikes me as a REAL human being and that's what counts with me.

I saw Bowling for Columbine, I've read two of his books and I like his attitude although there are a few things he talks about that I don't agree with (affirmative action for one). But I like him and I loved his message in Bowling for Columbine. I cheered him when he told off Charleton Heston for his insensitive gun rally in the same town where the kid was killed and loved when he left that picture there. Michael Moore is REAL.

Any comments from Michael Moore about Jews Hijacking US policy and their control of US media? Otherwise he is skipping the real question. It is the real reason why US invaded Iraq.

Appreciated, if you find any.

I think the point of the post is to show how vile Micheal Moore is. He is insensitive to the common American. He perverts freedom with his communist and terroristic language.

He says France is like the best friend who tells you the truth. How does he know that we're not the French best friend (who has busted them out of tight jams, like any good friend) and is letting them know they are on the wrong side of things.

Has everyone forgot the reason why France was against the war (along with Germany and Russia)....they were getting tons of money from Iraq. They would have let Saddam kill every American as long as they got their Iraqi dinar. All the French see are $$$$.

Did Michael Moore actually call the passengers on Flight 93 scaredy-cats? The way this quote reads, someone is paraphrasing Moore. If Moore actually said this, I would like a source. A real source, not Newsmax or some Moore-bashing website.

Other than this statement, I pretty much agree with everything you have quoted. Apparently, you think these are outrageous statements. Isn't that why you have posted them here? If you think Moore's statements are outrageous, why don't you pick out a few and explain why you think they are outrageous?

Don't most of those quotes speak for themselves? It's seem pretty understandable why people would be offended by what he says. It makes me wonder why the elite media doesn't play some of this stuff. I watched MM on the Jim Rose show or whatever that liberal talk show is on PBS, and he wasn't even questioned when he said something similar to what he says above.

Yes, the quotes speak for themselves. But you don't explain why people would be offended. You just say it's pretty understandable. Well, I am not offended by any of the quotes, except the one about the passengers being scaredy-cats, and I question the authenticity of that quote.

It is the Charlie Rose show, which I saw. I wasn't offended by anything Moore said on that show.

I'm more interested in how sometimes we invaded Iraq for revenge, and sometimes we invaded Iraq for oil, depending on his audience.

What does this show? He's a propagandist and a liar, just like Bush.

I take offense to the quotes that Americans are possibly the dumbest people on the planet. How he somewhat likes America. Though not offensive, but the line about absolutely no American wanted the US to go to war. I did, and it's the right conclusion, because I want to be safe and I don't want the terrorists coming over here.

He says something to the effect that the terrorist hit NY and DC because of Bush. Which is incorrect. He then says the people who were killed didn't even vote for Bush. Fine, but you can't blame the attack on Bush. The terrorist are sick people and they kill Americans for the satisfaction of it.

You mentioned the scaredy cat thing. Another is that Bush is not the legal president. I'm sick of this. The US have the electoral college. It's there to protect minority states from control by large states like California (my state) and Texas. In Florida there were many recounts. The Supreme Court said enough with the counting, you will get the same result over and over. Bush had enough electoral college votes to win the presidency. He shouldn't be worried with Flordia anyway. Wisconsin was won by only 355 votes. They had the recounts as well. I'm sick of the bellyaching over this aspect. If it's necessary, the people can place an amendment to make the presidency a popular vote.

Next he says Bush used some kind of tactics to prevent blacks from voting. Nothing to back this up. What about Gore stopping the military vote. What about the elite media calling Florida for Gore before all of the polls in the state had closed. That's the biggest travesty. I wonder how many people refrained from voting just because their state had already been decided, but siffice it to say it wasn't over yet.

He calls a couple of other quotes I don't think matter. About Nader and stuff.

Then he goes on to say we need other governments to represent us. I don't want the UN making decisions for me. They don't represent me. I know he wants a world government, but that is the farthest thing the world needs. It will only lead to tyranny.

He then goes on to say the war has nothing to do with terrorism. How can that be justified? We have been bombing Iraq consistently throughout the Clinton administration. So was Clinton helping Bush out with this "grudge"?

Then he goes on to say that American troops didn't die for protecting our country, which I think is the most offensive thing he says. Those men risk their lives for our safety and he doesn't even dignify that soldiers life, deed, and choice to join and serve? That's horrible. And then he says it was for the oil. Last time I heard we are paying nearly $2.00 for a gallon of gas, do you know how much an Iraqi pays? 5 cents a gallon. I'm not saying we don't deserve some of that oil for compensation for liberating the country though.

The last quote is famous and has been spoken on a lot. So I don't have much to add. It's sick that he acts in such a way. How can you say things were better under Saddam? Tens of thousands of killings, torture, no freedom of speech that Moore has. Hasn't he seen how many businesses are opening up, how many newspaper's have been founded since the end of formal hostilities. It's unbelievable! I've seen the smiles on the children's faces and how they hold the hands of our soldiers. I just think it's sick that those terrorists are now trying to vie for the power that Saddam lost.

So this is why I'm offended by what Moore says.

I agree KayEm, I personaly like the guy and i think he is doing good things, albeit with a large political biased...I Don't care. He may have said things that may offend many Americans but he is trying to make the country better, and talks of mass ingorance which is really the fault of people sometimes. Media/political spin. It's funny how MM is part of both of these games yet he is fighting against the worst..

If the quote about flight 93 is true it just shows how ignorant MM is.

Jeremy Glick was a 6-foot-1, 220-pound former NCAA judo champion

Yea im sure that guy couldnt put up a fight
Thats just one of many large guys on that flight they had some of College Football players on that flight that were even bigger then that guy.

I can see why Michael Moore has such a love of them. The French hate America, they are socialists/Marxists, they are cowardly and appease the terrorists, they have no morals, and they smell bad. Same with Michael Moore.

ok, the french are not marxists, they are mild socialists, and if there's something wrong with being socialist, i fail to see what it is. american's are getting royally screwed by their south korean brand of capitalism where the poor are duped into thinking it's a sign of their freedom that they have no health care or decent public higher education. as for being cowardly and appeasing terrorists, are you referring to Iraq? before the invasion, Iraqi's weren't terrorists, they were citizens of a hostile state. do any of you know what kind of measures the french have taken and sacrifices they have made dealing with their own terror problem? or do you just like to listen to bill o'reilly and his ilk for your opinions? if our anti-terror capacity was as good as the french we would be a lot better off.

they have no morals and they smell bad. i'm assuming this is humor. say what you want about michael moore, but to go bashing an entire country because they disagree with your own is pretty sheep-like behavior. when i see all the france-bashing, it makes me ashamed to be a processed orange junk eating conquer monkey.

The French answer in dealing with their terrorist problem is to give them more money to and send them our way. That's a great plan. It worked and not only that, but some, what they describe "stupid Americans" do not think they are to blame at all. Those French are smart.

i'm not sure what you're referring to here. could you provide examples? if you mean the french policy of sanctuary, this was abandoned in 1986. here is a good overview of france's terror experience, from the IISS journal Survival:
