400 of those mofo's after me
No thanks!!

That's mad, I have never heard of such a large pack. Just hope they do not decide to try their palate at human flesh. That would truly be a nightmare for sure

That would be your common sense tapping on your shoulder. The belief that domestic dogs derive from wolves has been seized by the Humane Society of the United States to try & distort the public's perspective on keeping animals. Domestic dogs do not thrive in the wild. A recent archaeological find (last year) included at least one pet dog buried with it's master that & was dated back to about 11,000 years. Volpino Italiano (Italian Spitz) have been similarly unearthed (wearing ivory jewelry, no less) dating back to 4000 years. Gazehounds in Persia & Arab countries go back at least 5000 years. I think it's ludicrous to imagine that Dachshunds (or Chihuahuas), the various types of gazehound (characteristically suited to the climates they're found in) or the Asian breeds (Shih Tzu, Pekingese), etc are even remotely "evolved" from wolves. Nordic breeds are physically similar to wolves but
that was just The Creator expanding on a great idea. It's certainly possible that some "wild" variant existed for the various breeds in their native locations & interbreeding happens (sometimes producing a "new breed" of offspring, but a specific breed with a very specific set of physical & temperament characteristics doesn't happen by accident.
Domesticated dogs (cats, too) have been kept by men as far back as human stories go.

BS on the story. Kneejerk reply: Got Borzoi?

we should get that wolfman from stan lee's superhuman show to tame them. lol.....although I really did think that particular show was a sham because that "wolfman" seems to have been able to tame only his own wolf pack (i.e. we didn't see him going into the forest to find wild wolves to tame).

Wolves are my favorite animals, and I read and study about them all the time. The is no way that a wolf pack could reach that size of a pack. There are maybe 400 wolves in that whole country. Wolves do not pose a threat to humans. You cannot believe everything you read on the internet.

Oh no 400 hundred wolves and in a pack. And they will shoot them with a machine gun from helicopter? How uninteresting the modern world is.

In old days they would ride to nearby lands to look for the bravest men - the most skilled hunters who would then face wolves in open field or forest. Armed with bows - they would stand against a horde of wolves. In the previous night traps would have been made from wood and ropes.

Ok, enough dreaming? *sound of a machine gun* dadadadadadaa What 400 wolves? Where? You mean 400 dead wolves?

Lmfao, my thoughts exactly.

Just a thought on an abnormal pack size. If there is a severe winter, or it is not mating season, the pack alpha male may switch to a survival mode built deep in their psycology. We really don't know how the animal thinks, and Siberia can be a very hard cold snow blown climate in winter. Maybe when it gets bad enough they do group up for survival. In the story they talk about hunting them from helicopter when there is enough daylight hours, which tells me they are far North near or in the artic circle. And winter in Siberia has always been a harsh climate from stories I have heard.

The other thought about a pack size growing so large would be some natural disturbance to the animals themselves. We have seen lots of fish and bird deaths for whatever reason, and one I am more inclined to accept is the magnetic fluctions of the Earth have messed up their migration patterns leading them into colder areas that they normally would have been out of by now. What if the same magnetic anomalies are screwing with the wolves' minds. Being wild animals, they are probably more attuned to the fluctuations than domesticated animals. We even see the animals flee areas of earthquakes and natural events that we seem to have no natural warning of unless we see it coming.

Whatever is going on, I don't doubt the story of a large pack hunting anything they can to eat and stay active in the frozen Siberian North. I also put hunters stories on size estimations right up there with fiserman's estimations of the one that got away! You could see how 50 wolves grow to 400 after being passed around the villigaes in the Siberian North after a few shots to warm up the cold blood, and out to a town that can write the story about it. There's 50 wolves taking down deer and horses is not as exciting and doesn't sell like the story of 400 Wolves on a Rampage terrorizing hunters and villiages have to patrol on snomobiles to protect the towns people.

However, there is a town in Alaska, and I don't recall the name but I watched a documentary on the towns polar bear watch because they come into town to go through garbage foraging for food and do get into homes sometimes. In the documentary they showed all the trucks sitting outside town and with their lights you couldn't see any bears. But, they had nightvision cameras and there were hunderds of polar bears in a ring around the town waiting to come in and forage for food. It was amazing to see them like that. So, there is some history of predators gathering in large packs to hunt for food. In the day time you would never see that many together, but they did show up at night. And again, the story from Siberia is where it is dark for most of the day just like the land of the midnight sun!

Sounds like a clip out of a post apocalyptic movie that hasn't been made yet............. If they did attack in a pack of 400... you'd need more than a few towns folk and bolt action rifle though.

I feel dumb for not knowing this, but wolves are HUGE ANIMALS........ check the ones we have out here in Idaho!
Hope the link works.

We just had an article in our local newspaper here near astoria oregon and I"m stumped. They say that the gray wolf is moving from canada down into these bordering states. Farmers are worried about them because they're much larger than the native gray wolves. Many have lost livestock and cattlle. The native wolves were killed off. So let me get this straight. We killed off a gray wolf that was smaller and now we expect everyone to sit happily as these monsters roam the forests?

We already got mountain lions and those things get real big too. Scary.

Its unfortunate we cant reply with just a eyerolly smiley and have to have 2 lines of text. Looks like I am being forced to say that what this poster said is one of the most moronic things Ive read in the last 24 hours.
"One guy one explosion style" needs to know that making threats on the interwebz is one of the more ridiculous things that people do to appear tough. ONLY the weak, immature and unintelligent make ridiculous threats rather that take the few seconds it requires to state an opinion in a half-way normal manner. Any normal animal loving human being with any understanding would kill an animal before letting sickness kill entire pack, allowing starvation, allowing humans to be threatened, and to prevent overculling of other animal populations due to a pack of that size having to hunt so excessively in one spot that would result in an out of balance system for the rest of the wildlife. Among other things.

So go threaten to explode someone else.. or come back with something to actually contribute to the thread rather than childish threats.

There have always been attacks, but they do not consider humans as prey. HUGE difference.

If there is a major disturbance or something is frightening them to the point of grouping, I think it could be possible. Lately we have been seeing what is mindreeling. I dont believe there is to be ONE alpha to a humongous pack (if the story is true). I believe that all groups including their alphas could have joined for protection such as strength in numbers. People do the same thing....People dont have just one alpha (leader) either, but many leaders.

If the story of the numbers is true, an there may be a cause or the wolves aresensing something ahead of time..we better all worry, because we ourselves live with canines..Yes, dogs are different from wolves, but there is no doubt those teeth still do the same thing. Keep your ears open for gatherings of the fox and coyote.

I just saw a couple other thread titles about marine anmals turning up dead. could not bear to look.

What in the world? That thing is huge.. a werewolf it is.

The 400 wolves does sound like a movie, lol that was my first thought, but you beat me to it.

SN: I look at this as a sign that humans should band together too. Even wolves don't like other wolves, but when it comes down to survival, they know when to howl when.

The old way would be the most interesting.

Now they will probably just end up poisoning them.

Nope. That was a hoax (and last May):

A viral video of a pack of wolves charging a highway with police hiding in their caris fake! As usual more and more cool, interesting, viral videos are fake secret marketing campaigns. It was all a commercial for Eristoff Vodka.
