Three people were shot at Gardena High School on Tuesday morning, according to police. [Updated at 11:13 a.m.:An earlier version of this article incorrectly said the shootings occurred Wednesday]

The shooting happened about 10:30 a.m. on the campus at 1300 W. 182nd St. The condition of the victims was not known, and it's unclear what sparked the violence.

Lt. Steve Prendergast said officers were on the scene investigating what happened. The school was placed on lockdown.

UPDATE:

Hopefully more info will be released soon on this shooter

Spokesman for the school district is claiming that this was an accidental shooting by the student who brought the gun in his backpack. Claiming the gun accidently went off

Stories like this make it a lot harder to argue for gun advocacy. Damn kids.

I hate that this is happening. And I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut that the kid was spurred on, in some form or another, by the Loughner shooting.

These events are always so empty, pointless, and so woefully and utterly avoidable.

It is so sad when there is a school shooting!

That is silly. He obviously did not obtain the gun(s) through proper legal channels at his age, so no amount of gun laws would have changed the situation.

Thanks for the breaking news GEL!

True.

Most guns used in criminal activity are stolen.

Say goodbye to your guns America.

It only took one event like this in the U.K. for the state to ban hand guns. Looks like they will really pile on the pressure now.

Not really, stories like this make it clear that there are alot of black ops doing hidous things, and involving youths, uncaring if whole lives are destroyed or lives end as long as they can achieve their ugly fascist/nwo goals. At least that is one strong possibility. I hope this gets resolved without anymore injuries or deaths.

More of these crazy shootings in schools.I hope that everyone can make it out of the school safely and i hope that the gunman is caught. You can never understand the motive of the gunman at hand. Why would you attempt to kill people.I hope that the person responsible when caught is put in jail and i really hope that there are no deaths. He deserves to go to jail for what he has already done.

I am very pro-gun ownership. I live in a state that allows concealed weapons with permit. These stories worry me a lot in that im afraid that our gun ownership rights will be stripped from us.

I will be interested to hear (if they tell us) how he obtained this gun.

I grew up in TX...you know that state where everyone has a gun or two or three....
I just do not understand why school shootings are more prevailant now...then when I was in school back in the 80s.

I also think its easier to report stuff quicker with today's electronic media.

Back in the late 70's my kids grade school was locked down because of a man on campus with a gun.

It didn't make the news.

I spent part of my life, growing up....one half block away. Google it....Rumbold Street. 1000 block. Right there.

Because of personal circumstances (the divorce, and custody issues/residence of record) I didn't go to that High School.....but both my parents did, in the late 40s/early 50s....

Moved away a long time ago, but my Dad lived there until he died. SO, I saw the deterioration of the neighborhood, and the class of people that the student body had devolved to....(didn't do much for property values. He left the house to his second ex-wife, and I inherited the rental house, ALSO near a school....a Middle School, and only four miles away, completely different neighborhood vibe.....

Almost all the schools around many parts of LA suffer from gang-type influences, peer pressures and occasionally violence of that sort.

Gee, 14-15 LA school. Gang activity anyone?

Stupid "gun law"'crap. He was too young to have one. He had one in a school. He assaulted others with it. How many more laws will make it illegal enough to actually prevent a crime? Barring magic fairy dust wiping them and all knowledge of combustion and pressure off the face of the planet of course.

I doubt he was spurned on by anything. If it's typical ghetto gang # he probably had no idea the thing Arizona even happened.

Though I'm sure it's somehow Palins fault. Just has to be.

Last week New Haven had its first homicide. Two guys sitting in a car got shot. The shooter hasn't been found yet thanks to "no snitching" attitudes. When the surviving victim was asked why anybody would want him dead he said because he's reay popular in his neoghborhood and "nighaz be jealous."

These are the idiots who make up the entirity of that "children and guns" statistic we're supposed to feel bad about.
