It is called Elenin since it was discovered by Leonid Elenin. I expect the internet to soon be ringing with rumors and news bytes about this comet. For now, there isn't much to say so I'm sharing what I've received in private from an astronomer at a big observatory that shall remain anonymous for the moment. He says:
It is too early to accurately predict the future path - it's orbital parameters haven't been revised.

Among the observable hyperbolic and parabolic comets (those that come from the Oort cloud) this one has the smallest perihelion distance and the smallest inclination to the ecliptic plane.

Comet Elenin's orbit may be unstable as it may encounter some dark bodies, for example, in the asteroid belt or even some Taurid objects. What would happen in those cases is a matter of luck.

This comet may carry a significant amount of material with it and if it follows the currently projected orbit, the Earth may very well pass through this material.

If Elenin is anything like what Victor Clube or James McCanney describes, we might be in for some surprises - good or bad, who knows?

There are passages in the Old Testament (Daniel and Zechariah) that also seem to refer to a giant meteoroid strike. Christ is perhaps the most well known source warning us of a catastrophic meteoroid strike. Revelation 6:13 - 14 suggests a possible Earth impact of a giant meteoroid moving mountains. Revelation 8:8 also suggests a blazing mountain-sized object falling into the water and Revelation 9:1-2 suggests a volcano-like result of a land strike. Two strikes are suggested, just like the 2006 and 2012 strikes dates found in the Bible Code. The Mayan calendar ends in 2012 but it can also be argued that they were aware of the Bible Code and its 2012 strike date obtained via the Izapas. Christ could have obtained the meteoroid strike information from the same source.

Prehistory data likewise supports a comet strike scenario. Recovered Messopotamian clay tablets found in Assurbanipal's palace in Nineveh dating from about 650 BC describe a cosmological conflict between Marduk (alias Phaeton) and Tiamat.1 Marduk, clothed with the halo of ten gods, appears to vanquish Tiamat. This also sounds like the "dragon" of Revelation 12:3-4.

Marduk and Tiamat are two comet clusters within Comet Swarm B that passed Earth about 3200 years ago and are anticipated to soon pass by us again. The diffuse gas cloud of a single comet can be almost as large as a small planet. These two comet clusters appear enormous when near Earth. These two "gods" appeared to engage one another (i.e. they are concurrently visible while inward and/or outward bound from the Sun). Assuming a nominal 3,353 - year period for the comet swarm, a comet cluster would be first observed at the distance of about 3 AU. Individual cluster visibility should last about 1.0 year. But for concurrent visibility (as suggested by the pre-history data) and to be seen going in opposite directions, the separation of the two clusters would have to be about 1.0 year. If Earth impact occurs from a following cluster's comets (Marduk) on its outbound leg, the strike would occur about 1.6 years after the former (benign) comet cluster (Tiamat) was first seen. Based on this event timeline, the strike would be out of the southeast.

Several times every year, sort of, thats what meteor showers are, although it's refered to as a dust trail as opposed to dust tail which is what you normally associate with a comet (small particles and gases which are blown off by the pressure of solar radiation), but this dust trail still makes up the tail at the time.

That being said, a comets tail can be hundreds of thousands of KM across to 100+ million KM, even if the comet is relativley small. It wouldn't have to approach that close for the tail to hit.

Disregard the Bible codes or Barry's site for that matter. Focus on Revelation 12. If you don't see the esoteric symbolism in that, that points to this comet, and the strong Draconid meteor shower for Oct. 2011, then I am sorry.

nice info here, ive always not been sure on the whole nibiru 2012 planet passing but this seems all to similar in my opinion i quess in time we shall see

This G-D thread is just blowing my shi_ in the weeds. It was just a few years back (2007) that movie Deep Impact, was getting massive air time here in So. Calif. Over a six month period I know for a fact that movie was on at least three times a week.
I even said to the wife, Gee I wonder if their try'in to tell us something again?"

The kids name was LEO.
The President was played by someone who could pass as half white and half black.
I'm sure I can find more of this creepy crappy stuff too. What a whacky ass world this really is .

Here is a link from wiki about the film Deep Impact

In the film it says the comet is 7 mile wide. When they fail to destroy the comet it brakes into two pieces and one piece hits the Atlantic ocean destroying north & south America, along with Europe and parts of Africa

And yes there do seem to be a lot of "coincidences" in regards to Elenin and Ele. I guess we will have to wait for more info on this comet and of course the golden question how big is it????
