Wikileaks to be given data on Swiss bank accounts

www.bbc.co.uk

A former Swiss banker is set to pass on data containing account details of 2,000 prominent people to Wikileaks.

The data - which is not yet available on the Wikileaks website - is held on two discs to be passed on by Rudolf Elmer at a press conference in London.

According to a report in Swiss newspaper Der Sonntag, the data covers multinationals, financial firms and wealthy individuals from many countries, including the UK, US and Germany, and covers the period 1990-2009.

"I'm against the system. I know how the system works," said the banker at the press conference. He says a sophisticated network exists to funnel illicit money into secret offshore accounts.

"I've been there. I've done the job. I know what is the day-to-day business," he said, explaining why he thought it important to identify himself as the source.

Can anyone stand up and say anything better?

his is the sdort of action we can only hope for in many other sitautions.. I seriously hope this info really kicks some butt.

We may see many rats running for cover.. Which would be nice..

Seems some politicians have got themselves in some rather deep water..

This will be interesting to read, that is for sure. If they are allowed to produce these files on the intertnet, once again those who have something to hide will do everything they can to stop these documents from being released onto the wider web.

And the War continues !!!!

He shopuld be given a Nobel Peace Prize for outing those who have taken our monies off us and rann off with the loot. Or put the loot in a swiss bank account.

I for one will be interested to see whom is on that list. And yes I agree with other comments, lets just hope Wikileaks release these documents alot quicker than the last lot before they have injunctions slapped on them or thier website is attacked again.

Wow!

A couple of things:

1) Will he get killed in an 'accident' before he can make the swap?

2) Can who he hands it over to be trusted to pass it on correctly?

3) Will who he passes it onto die in an 'accident'?

4) Who, what and why is on the disks?

5) Will people start sobbing because they have paypal accounts for their online businesses which may not work in a fictional world but they still demand the NWO be stopped!!

I cannot wait for this.

I really hope we have Cameron on that list. It would be hilarious to see him hounded from office.

That would be hilarious, Cameron and Clegg the Both of them found out, and hounded out of office. I would not be surprised if Blair and Brown when they were in office made profits secretly out of the UK Citizens misery. Mind you One would not be surprised either. MP's do it behind our backs all the time.

He's now shown up and handed it over and then attending a press release - I just saw it on the BBC.

It's not up yet but here is CNN's pre-report on it:

So, now we are going from releasing routine Government diplomatic correspondence, of a non-criminal nature...to the release of personal financial information, of a non-criminal nature.

What's next, somebody will hack people's personal emails and "leak" them to Wikileaks...which will then be released for all of the voyeurs to review in sordid detail?

Somebody will hack many people's bank accounts and "leak" them to Wikileaks...which will be then be released for all of the identity thieves to use and abuse?

When are all of you Wiki-morons going to start to understand that this information - and especially now personal information - is being stolen from its rightful owners, and then being used in a careless manner to injure (often) innocent people.

Your lurid desire to peek into the windows of your fellow citizens, and to know all of their private details, does not trump people's right to privacy.

Wikileaks, and all copycat websites like it, need to be prosecuted. People who access their illegally obtained materials...and especially those who then further disseminate it...should be prosecuted the same way that kiddie porn perveyors are.

I would love to see the reaction of the breathless posters on here...if it was their personal information that was about to be revealed.

And what about those thieves, criminals whom have profitted from their Citizens miseries, dont we have a right to see if they are criminally neglegent? If they have nothing to hide then why make a song and a dance about it.

Seems sinister someone comes on here and cries wolf when something is about to be produced on misdealings. If they have nothing to hide then they had nothing to be worried about now do they!

If my personal details are produced then so be it. I have nothing to hide. nor do I have millions hidden away in a Swiss Bank Account. One only wishes she had

Its obvious to me you are sticking up for those who have profitteered from other peoples misery. Which makes me question you comments. What do you have to hide that you are sticking up for those who have used swiss banks to deposit thier monies.

Because the possession and transmission of kiddie porn is illegal.

If a citizen through his or her lawful activity, or a law enforcement agency in its lawful activities, becomes aware of this kind of activity then it would be permissible to use that knowledge to pursue charges against that individual. This is okay.

What is not okay, is to hack into millions of people's hard drives, and then release all of their contents - when those contents do not reveal any illegal activity.

The same kind of thing can be said for people who are in possession of illegal narcotics. If through some lawful means or event, it is discovered that they are in possession, then they can be prosecuted. If this knowledge is gained through some illegal activity, then the evidence is inadmissible - and the person who obtained it illegally is liable to sanction.

Are these difficult concepts?

Absolutely ridiculous, that you are comparing, revealing what People have in thier Swiss bank Accounts to Child Porn. (Which is disgusting to say the least).

It is obvious to me that you are sticking up for those whom have something to hide, or those whom have depostied money into swiss bank accounts for sinister reasons.

The sad fact of the matter is that there are people like this who suck up to their own governments or governments that they could happily live their life knowing that these people are criminals and have nothing done about it. Thank God people are waking up!

Wow...this is the same argument used by those who would have us live in a complete Police State. If we have nothing to hide, then why can't the Government have total access to everything we say and do and think...stop us and search us for no reason...come into our homes and go through everything.

I seriously doubt that you would be okay with all of your personal details being released to the public. Brave of you to say so...but I don't buy it for one second.

And...are you really suggesting that everybody who has money deposited in a bank account in Switzerland is involved in some kind of criminal activity?

Take your head out of your backside dude. You really need to. Your attacking my comments when you are the one who is defending these people who have depostied thier money into swiss bank accounts. Arent you going to have egg on your face when and if it is revealed those whom have done this have done so, out of sinister needs at the expense and pain of others.
