the Constitution was created in September 17, 1787 and 'Ratified' June 21, 1788 are you sure that you want to 'stick' forever in this outdated time warp?
You have obviously never read the Constritution. The Founding Principles are timeless.
Many of us in The USA have taken an Oath to protect the Constitution against all enemies, foriegn and domestic. We have never recended that Oath, even though we are not currently serving in the military.
We are the government. It doesn't make any sense to disarm our government, which is us.

You do realize that as a patriot you should not support the military industrial complex. Dwight D.Eisenhower the outgoing president at the time said that it was bad. He was still the figure-head of the government, and you should listen to him. I'm not going to say anything else than that.

6 people is a tragedy. What does 6 million sound like? Maybe they could have fled if they would have had guns to fight with. The Nazis new why it was a good idea to take their guns. Crazy people will do crazy things, if not with guns, with a sword, selfmade flamethrower and what not, because they are CRAZY. What do you think is going to happen if no guns are around, do you think they will decide that it is too much trouble and not act crazy anymore?

Alcohol kills more people than guns in the hands of the general population.....I don't hear ya bitchin' about that.
Someone said it earlier....
"from my cold dead hands!" I'm gonna be prepared in every way when TSHTF to be able to protect my wife and myself. Let them try to change our constitutional rights to bear arms. There isn't as many military troops as there are civilians that bear arms. Oddly that is one of the reason we have our military, to protect our freedoms. Even if people "couldn't have guns" the bad guys would still get them. Honestly if someone wanted to, they could kill someone with a spork!!!

Hailing from the UK and now residing in Australia, I could never understand why Americans would need to bare arms, keep guns etc.

BUT having worked with a colleague from South Africa and hearing upon their countries criminal activities with reference to guns etc - I can understand the deterrent a gun may provide.

When the OP talks about government putting people in their place, I am extremely saddened. Most people are ok in their place, most people simply want peace and some level of prosperity. It's government in bed with big business that seems obsessed with something larger.

The UK has anti-gun laws, but does that stop gun crimes? Of course not. As sad as these events are, not every gun toting american is out there tearing sh*t up. If someone is hell bent on causing some damage, they will use whatever means available, knives, home made explosives, cars, planes... I could go on.

Creating a nation or a world that doesn't need arms, or to live in fear would be a much better ideal.

The Gifford shooting proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that not nearly enough Americans are armed. If every sane man & woman had a firearm on their hip this type of thing could never happen as the shooter would instantly find himself getting shot back at. Instead of a bunch of people dead there would have been one dead at most in that case.

Hopefully this will be a lesson to show people what happens when not enough people are concealed or open carrying in public.

Don't feed the troll, ATS. He introduced himself as a "psychopath" in the new members forum and proceeded to tell us how he likes to "destroy people that are in his way." Riiiiight. He's just a little nobody that likes to see his own words on screen.

I do not fear people are about to attack, Nor have I ever been threatened by government or the police. In fact only a few select members of the police force are bad. The rest are actually ok decent people.

If you dont like the way government is doing things then get involved and become a government official. But most are to lazy.

Hi TSR
So you think police should be disarmed because "a few select members of the police force are bad." hmmm
The same "logic" must apply.

You know, some of us just want to live our lives in piece and don't want to become an "official". I think you meant to refer to someone in government as a servant. But that is a common misconception.

Those of us who have a career, not in politics, don't wish to give it up to take on a position in our government cesspool.
So we back and support those who do want to run for an office. And we hope they don't turn on us like the rest.

Anti-government sentiments are tame in the states compared to across the pond and around the world.
I think our government is in hope that it does not get near 10% of other countries. Less than 10% could over through every federal building in the country over a weekend. And they know it. Man I hope it never comes to anything remotely like that. I think if everyone just votes for anyone not a Dem or a Rep than we might be better off.

P.S.
The Constitution does not give us any rights. We are born with them as Americans. The Constitution/Bill of Rights is there to put in writing the restrictions on the government, not on the PEOPLE.

And only the person who carries a gun can put it to dangerous use.
That is correct. Ever read about Waco, Ruby Ridge, or similar incidents? Americans can clearly see that agencies of the government are way out of control, and are likely to make a very serious move against our freedoms in the near future.
Here is another couple of slants for you from our Founders: How can the citizens of a Nation that governs itself be disarmed, and still retain a self-governing people? You can't, can you? Also, how can the citizens of such a Nation be distrusted by the government to the point of disarming them? The governemt is "of The People, for The People, and by The People". Disarming them is disarming the government itself. When The People fear their government, there is tyranny. When the government fears The People there is Liberty.
I've lived in the United States for 62 years, and have never witnessed a gun battle. I do, on the other hand, know quite a number of people who have been killed by doctors. The United States is having a severe problem with the Media: They distort the truth somewhat blatently in order to steer us toward a socialist tyranny. Disarming those to whom the government belongs is just one task toward changing the ownership of the government, placing it into the hands of the elite.

It will be a cold day in hell before my guns are taken away from me. You suggest utter lunacy and are clearly out of your mind.

If the bill of rights were to be torn up, there would be civil war and our country would destroy itself. Hell, even if the constitution was suspended, there would be all out war.

Your suggestions are both asinine and absurd.

Why should the doc suffer on the account of one moron?

I hope after the last few days events that even the most primitive of American people can now appreciate that
GUNS needs to be BANNED for the general populas NOW!

Americans have shown the world that they cannot and will NEVER be able to behave responsibly with a GUN in hand.

Massacres at schools, shopping malls and Universities is common place and NOW the assassination attempt of a government official.

This would be so much harder to accomplish if the Government would just BAN GUNS.

The American people do not need them even for protection. Protection from who? The average American has no serious enemy.

Gun need to be BANNED and it looks like that day is coming. Good. I do not care how people on here think about that but with the anti-government feel to this site it proves that it only takes one or two bad eggs to spoil the party. So the easiest way is to BAN the deadly weapon.

As an added measure after the shooting of that poor congress woman who was only doing her job, I think the US constitution should be suspended till the ban of GUNS has been put into effect.

The Bill of Rights needs to be torn up and replaced with something more upto date. The right to bare arms is now outdated and will only serve to put fire in the bellies of those do not like the way the system works. Instead of improving their lives they turn to GUNS as their way to solve their pathetic lives. The Bill of Rights is too old to mean anything now-a-days and needs to be looked at before the US turn into an anarchist state.

Ban GUNS and terminate the current Bill of rights in favor of something more realistic.

PS I know a lot of you will be giving it the mouth in reply but shootings in America need to STOP. And trying to kill a government official is just plain WRONG!!! The average american has no formal training with a weapon and has no formal pass mark to achieve. If you look at driving you need to pass a test and get a license.

Americans will always resort to shooting people. Its in their nature. Anyone who does not agree with the BANNING of GUNS needs to be considered as someone who POTENTIALLY will one day do harm to someone. I

A new "extremist" law needs to be introduce for gun ownership.

In Puerto Rico, being a US territory, guns are banned for general people, so only cops (that won't protect anyone), rich people (you have to prove to government you own a big, big business) and criminals have em'...people live afraid even in their homes, houses look like steel cages and when a burglar gets into you home (with a nice ak47 or a 9mm for sure) all you can do is to watch your wife and your little girls being raped.

you know why??
because they know you have no gun to protect you or your family....you represent no threat for criminals.
there has been 36 assassinations in just only 10 days one of them a guy that set fire a house with a family inside and we are less that 4 million in the island.

NY city with 8 million people has half of the assassinations PR has.

I hope the States never get this far.
