Ellen, I commend you on your more recent posts. It does shed lights on one's right even on free membership board. Just because we had done nothing wrong or even done something wrong, does not mean the authorities without legal due process have that authority to take away that right from us by demanding to look into our posts and private correspondences. The Judiciary plays an important role to uphold that right.

I knew when I posted (I think I've posted similar in other threads lol) not every one would grasp the context nor the significance.... as the erratical majority are still caught up in the media hype/spin/twist/drama/sensationalism, political and media social commentary rhetoric... but knew some members would recognise the significance and recognise the bigger picture

My post wasnt so much based for just this free message board, but applies for other websites, independent websites away from corporate media and all social networks available, free email sites etc on the net

This IS where the online community is heading, Twitter used the law to their advantage and exposed DOJ, facebook cowed over and their clients none the wiser

We must up hold the judiciary system and not allow DOJ to conduct themselves in this manner or any other authority who behaves above the law.

It seems many had forgotten such rights, and are shaking with fear over what the authorities will do, to the extend of fears that twitter, google, facebook, etc will close down or be forced to shut down.

However we have witnessed how politicans without due process have put pressured to shut down others who use their services without legal due process .. ie amazon, visa, master card, facebook apple, twitter etc

The embarassment these private companies faced under pressure used TOS as their explaination

Let me tell you this...
Ive been following tweets, online flash conferences/discussions, podcasts by independent journalists/writers/authors and investigative journalists aswell as independent online news outlets and others with IT tools.. they are scared! [Freedom of Speech online is under attack, Flow of Information online is under attack] They realise they can NOT trust a private company to host them anymore... they are working on alternative routes where they have a little more protection

This is a predicament many online private companies are facing now and seeking legal counsel (for the future)

I hope ATS Management dont think my post was a dig at them, but rather was hoping that members would trigger and recognise the seriousness that can stem from this current situation and any other future situation. We must fight accordingly and supportingly using the judiciary system to our advantage just like what Twitter did

What DOJ have done to Twitter can and will happen to others in the future

DOJ can do this to ATS or any other website or online service/s that any one of us use

I dont think neither of us are expecting ATS Management to make some sort of statement in this case until they seek legal counsel and work out legal avenues (and for the future) etc

It seems many had forgotten that they are living in a democracy, a republic where no tyrants rule. Made worse by those who are addicted to blue pills whom had fed such falsehoods and fears to many others.

Mr Loughner was a lunatic and not the first person on ATS with psychological problems. As stated before, this is not the first time. That individual, however, did not display any "features" which would immediately raise a red flag - but it seems Mr Loughner ridiculous and insanely incoherent threads got him a one way ticket out of here.

Questions should be ask regarding his ability to gain access to firearms, when his college and army questioned his mental health. Not what he wrote on a random Internet forum.

What DOES NOT help ATS is members suggesting he was a victim of a mind control experiment, which helps to add fuel to the fire and justify Jared's psychological state. The media will no doubt think this is some sort of asylum.

There is nothing wrong in my opinion in people thinking about what they are posting before they post it. in fact i dare say we need more of it on here.

'Responsible' is'nt the right word, but ATS influenced it, without a doubt. If you want to use the word 'responsible' then we are all responsible for our actions and words (our thoughts are our own, our words are everybodies) but again, 'responsible' is very weighted.

Maybe it would be fairer to say that responsibility comes with intention, so if something is communicated with the intention of influencing someone else, then whoever instigated it (or is connected with that intention, provided a means to communicate the intion), has to share some of the resulting effects.

In regard to post on sites like this and others, I don't think anybody posts something without the intention of influencing another. We share our opinions with one another in the hope of finding common ground (or to point out vast differences in opinion) to issues that, frankly speaking, are quite volatile issues. I dare say that the issues that have been posted here could have far reaching affects, and a great many people here have a very real desire to affect change regarding these issues, even if only to bring the issue to the light of day.

While I agree that forethought to a post reply would be appreciated, often times we are working with limited information and conjecture becomes a part of the discussions. There will be those out there, for reasons we have no control over, that will take these conjectures and attach themselves to those ideas as fact, not quite understanding that these ideas are extrapolation of thoughts.

As was stated earlier in the thread, the motto hear is "deny ignorance". Someone with the inability to do so who acts out with paranoia and fear, and violent behavior, is a terribly unfortunate side effect of mass communication.

This site exists to bring issues that the MSM either neglects, or flat out refuses to cover, so that individuals can educate themselves without having to rely on the mind numbing BS that is spoon fed to us over the idiot box or local rags. It is however, not a policing forum, where everybody is put through a pre-screening psyc test to determine wether they have a solid grasp on reality and can determine fact from fiction.

There are a number of individuals here with solid educational backgrounds that have pointed out individuals with these issues and in doing so did due justice to the rest of the populace here. It is not their responsibility to make certain the men in white coats are sent to the respective ip addresses to collect said individuals.

I don't mean to sound flippant about such a horrible tragedy but sites such as these provide, for me, very valuable sources of information that I can weed through to educate myself, which, until the age of the internet had to be gleaned from the occasional insider one would come across.

If our government in there infinite wisdom decides that these sites are a public menace and seek to censor us, I for one, will be very disappointed.

I can't seem to "get" his membership here as having such a devastating effect on the site. It's painful that so many people have been murdered by someone who is deranged and homicidal.

The aspersion has been cast. Like everything else, it will blow over for ATS.

This place has certainly inspired some stories from me! And many times this website is ahead of the game as far as gathering news and information.

I thought I might add that mentally ill people, particularly paranoid schizophrenics, often have their own perceptions of what things mean, that others cannot validate.

I can say "it's a beautiful day", and most will take it at face value. But the mentally ill person might see in this a private and special message, intended as a code just for him, that "today is the day" or some such other misinterpretation.

So with that said, he could have gotten a "clear message", from a Geico commercial. Who knows? Plus, I took a quick glance yesterday, but hasn't it been Sept. since he even logged in?

Good morning everyone! Just woke up, so I haven't had a chance to read all posts in this thread. Out of curiosity, since ATS is getting alot of recognition because of ERAD3's membership, I checked to see how many new members have joined ATS in the last 2 days. WOW! I hope all came with good intentions.

In my opinion the mass media jumps at things like us because it is easy. Let’s face facts, main stream media is actually kept running by lazy and or abused interns and low level reporters. They have to report and research what the boss tells them to. The boss has to keep the company in the black. So how can everyone stay happy and do as little work as possible? Feed the public perceptions! Whenever we have a mass shooting such as this it is a unspeakable crime. It makes me so angry and wish for summary execution for the gun man. But then logic and reason reassert themselves and I know that it’s a bad idea to ask for that. The media knows that people are just as angry as I was and feed it. When you are angry you must do one of two things, fix what is making you angry, or blame someone if you can’t. D&D, Conspiracy Theorists, Hard core gamers, the porn industry, Gangster Rap, the list goes on. If the masses do not understand something, or view it as something that is for outsiders, it is very easy to blame.

So now we stand in a position where we are easy to blame by default and one who was in our group committed a horrid crime. Cooler and more reasonable heads will know that the rest of us had nothing to do with it. And the investigations are going to look into if the nut job in question talked about it here, or anywhere else. That way if he tries to do the 'plea of insanity' the DA can argue that it was a premeditated attack, which shows critical thinking and intent and then, I think Arizona has a death row right?

Anyway, my advice to the community at large is to calm down and if you do happen to be contacted by LE officials, they will do so thru official channels, like a formal letter. Looking at the nutters posts though, I would say he most likely did not have many friends on here, if any, and never seemed to post anything note worthy.

Again, sorry for the wall of test, but that's my two pennies.

Just because he happens to of been a member here, how should that impact anything? I looked over his posts, and to be perfectly honest you can see he wasn't fully there, but to suspect he would go out and commit this terrible action? That was purely anyone's guess.
