gardenbees.com...

...edited to add - that page up there shows 3 pics of female cottony scale bugs... the website says they're a pest that was imported from australia, where, apparently, they are not a pest... maybe thats cuz aussieland has so many snakes but i'm just guessing...

A few questions, if you don't mind.

About what size is this insect? (The size of an ant? A grain of rice?)

What color is it? White?

Did it bite or have wings?

Sigh... that's why I hate posting I never get a serious answer...

Anyways, here's a pic of the waterfall that was close by the tree with the insect. I'm trying to get the coordinates of the place in my GPS...

i agree these are some good questions, general estimated size, color, and a basic description ( since we can't see anything from the pics )

the only reason i post this is because i opened this thread thinking this was going to be something along the lines of the "flying rod" phenomenon, anyways

hey if you have paint on your computer that you are posting from, try and draw a picture of what it looks like down to every detail you can see with your eye

Wyn Hawks that's what it looked like! but with scribbles!

The insect was the size of probably a grain of rice length wise and chubby

...its on its back... so, maybe the scribbles are still there... the first pic on that page is the same bug before it got cottony, is that close to the scribbles you saw?...

I think Wyn Hawks nailed it! It's a cottony cushion scale.

It seems this one managed to make the fibers look like a scribble.

Did it look like a little bit of cotton fluff with legs? It was probably some sort of scale bug. Google Scale Bug or cottony scale bug.

Are you talking about that third picture? That's a bead hahaha, at first I also thought it looked like an eye but when you scaled the pictures down it's more clear.

...yep, its just a bead - thats what they always say right before the mouth opens and a long slimey tongue slithers out and grabs your tonsils...

Great Pics! I would have to say it's either an alien life form, The Virgin Mary, or perhaps The Flying Spaghetti Monster.

rofl @ the flying spaghetti monster

to the OP which country are you in? I'm going with cottony cushion scale too depending on where you are in the world!

Not sure what im supposed to be looking at. any chance that you have pictures of this insect you speak of in a much more clearer view, if not then there is no way anyone can pick out what it is you speak of.
