#ROK naval exercise confirmed as underway in east sea. It'll last 3 days. #Koreas 11 minutes ago via TweetDeck

And so it already begins!

Hopefully North Korea does nothing.

Not what most americans believe or are lead to believe..

A retired US colonel, John Collins, in 2003 examined a whole series of military options and scenarios with North Korea -- ranging from naval blockades to nuclear strikes -- and reached a grim conclusion.

"Any of the US options described above could trigger uncontrollable escalation that would create appalling casualties on both sides of the DMZ and promise a Pyrrhic victory at best," he said.

And NK you would assume have more weapons now than in 2003..

Hmmm SK is pulling a gutsy move here, but I think they are trying to raise moral, and calm, if it was me and I was ruling a country with a hostile neighbor, I would be showing my strength and might too I suppose after I got barraged by artillery and really didn't do much of anything about it. Yet I am not south korean, nor do I live there, but I can imagine their are some angry south korean's right now. Attempting to put myself in their shoes to understand the logic behind this show of force. If North Korea is not provoked then perhaps they can sit down and sign a damn peace treaty. Ya I doubt it too.

Don't count on that..

"The key question is whether or not they can use their WMD (weapons of mass destruction) effectively," Bennett said. "That's the part which we don't really know."

Bennett and some other analysts say North Korea likely will have the ability to fit a nuclear warhead onto one of its missiles within months, and may already have succeeded.

Who cares if they can't transport their nukes? They have 10 000+ tons of chemical weapons that can kill everything in South Korea ten times over.

This is BS, SK/US are ankle bitting, we remind me more of them, than they do of us, if that makes sense. I do not see the need to provoke them any further, we already made a statement with the last drills. Maybe America doesn't want to spend the gas money to get our troops up there and in position and then leave without doing some damage. This is one of the dumbest things I've heard since, well...probably yesterday.

The pissing contest continues? I was hoping the situation on the Peninsula would have simmered down after the previous live-fire drills with no response by the North Koreans, and the concession gained from NK by Bill Richardson. It seems the South Koreans, are pouring it on with military exercises and ones to make an already skittish foe even more uneasy. Perhaps, the South Koreans have taken the bait by the Chinese to launch provocative maneuvers of their own as has been the case with the North for all these years.

I keep on thinking about how the Chinese tone toward North Korea seems to have sullen with the revelations coming out of the Wikileaks cables where it said they were open to a unified Korean Peninsula led by Seoul. Now, I would not put much stock in the contents of those declassified cables, and it could be the cat dangling the carrot before the rabbit? It seems SK is more aggressive than ever? What are the Chinese up to? They are playing this thing weird.

Still, North Korea opened Pandora's Box when the launch that artillery at that South Korean island killing civilians and military personnel. I think the SK have come to the conclusion that they are tired of the threats and pot shots by the North. In other words, crap or get off the pot. I have a feeling this game of cat and mouth is going to continue. More military drills and maneuvers until someone exchanges fire, and then we have a serious matter on our hands.

A dangerous game the south is playing...if they're looking for trouble, they will likely find it.
Kim Jong-il will be pissed over this one...

The South is pushing it? Are you feeling ok?

Dozens of South Korean citizens have been killed in unprovoked attacks this year.
A South Korean ship was sunk.
An inhabited island was attacked with artillery, destroying hundreds of homes and killing four including two soldiers.

Just when do you pull your head out of the sand and realise it is the North Korean regime begging for a conflict and not the other way around?!

North Korea attacks the South multiple times, killing dozens of people, sinking ships, and then finally South Korea decides it has had enough and decides to hold military exercises to demonstrate to the North's regime that it has the capability to hit back if the provocations & attacks continue, and you people think it's the South Koreans who are trying to provoke a war?

North Korea is extremely lucky that South Korea and it's allies haven't sent them into prehistoric times already.

Jeez. You've even put a NWO slant on your "argument".

I say I am about to the point anymore where if the powers that be wanna war lets give them a war. Let the great people of this world stand up and fight them all and whats the old saying "Kill em all and let God sort them out"? Give them a taste of the new world order. Probably just the Heineken talking but any more wars is just gettin to the point of being useless.

seriously...

NK is a sick communist country still stuck in the 60's Stalin type of regime...and the worst thing is they are stocked with dooms day weaponry..i'm so glad they intend to put this threat to rest

NK is a dying country on a suicide mission and they intend to bring down with them the whole planet. Still SK and US need to be cautious since even turning the whole NK into blaze may not be enough once they have nuclear subs cruising undetected so they must first focus on intelligence and see how they can wipe them out with minimum risk

Ok, my mind wasn't made before...but now! This is clearly US pushing on SK to start a war. They're poking NK non-stop, and yet the US try to make NK look like the bad guys. As much as I don't like NK, I think SK is the pussy here...

Enough said, the Elite sucks.

Why can't the playground bully US just leave it alone? They've helped little SK to scare little NK out of demanding their pocket money. Now if NK hits back and the big bully responds by pulling out the big guns, teacher (China) and head teacher (Russia) have every right to cane the bully. Unfortunately, some bullies just need the attention it seems.

Staging this vulgar display of 'power' only 12 miles from NK's border is an immediate threat to the NK government. If NK do nothing we should have Kim awarded the Nobel Peace Prize next year. Obama has it and look at the way the US carry themselves in the name of 'peace'.

With Japan pointing artillery at China and several Eastern European countries taking delivery of weapons systemsfacing Russia, tensions in the ME and South America I think we can all guess where this is going. But more to the point, who the aggressor is. Don't be proud of your country any more America, and certainly don't fight for the warmongering profiteers. You've become everything your propaganda warns us against. If war starts, you really brought it on yourselves and unlike your very lucky bankers shouldn't expect any bailout or assistance from anyone else.
