Update 11/10 – 14:40 UTC : Following Joke Volta, a Dutch artist living on El Hierro and talking to Earthquake-Report.com, a RED ALERT has been declared for La Restinga, the southernmost city on the island. The Yellow Alert remains for the rest of the island. The precautionary measure has been taken as the eruption might come nearer to the island (ER: it is far from sure that such an eruption will occur on the island itself). We have still NO official press report of this measure in Emergencia El Hierro. La Restinga has a population of 547 people.

IMPORTANT UPDATE 14:04 UTC : The government of the Canary Island has asked the population of the Southernmost City of La Restinga (also an important port) with an urgent call to come together on the local football field. People at the island think that the meeting is scheduled to prepare for an eventual opening of vents closer towards the island.
The authorities have called a press conference in Valverde soon to give more information about their decision. We will bring you the information as it is published. We will however not speculate on the next measure to be taken.

Just saw this....does anyone have info on it? I'm trying to find out more....This was in an introduction thread, which the OP must have not realized they need 20 posts first, so it may disappear.....which is why I brought it here. www.abovetopsecret.com...
Here's the news article the op referred to, though it didn't have much info.

I say only some words ..

Is your way ..

My way is more simply and more complicate, we are not on same frequency ..

For my is enough to see this earthquakes "only" to say magma is moving last months ..

That signal you cant find before 20 - 40 days and "yes" I say this trembling need to be monitoring ..

But is your thread so drive like you want ..

Next time I open my thread if I have free time for EQ and EQ signals, don't have time for discuss with you ..

Good luck with your work ..

Latest
11/10/2011 16:32 – The epicenter of recent seismic activity seems to be shifting toward the center of El Hierro. The National Geographic Institute expects higher intensity earthquakes, between 4 and 5 degrees, as the pressure of the lava underground searches for a point to escape.

11/10/2011 16:30 – According to the National Geographic Institute (IGN) experts, more earthquakes are expected that are likely to exceed 4 degrees on the Richter scale.

Hi all!

Been out of town for the last several days and I come back to see the EQ's not napping much.

Looks like the US has a few more swarms going on? Nevada, Colorado and of course..still...California.

Volcanic activity seems to be picking up as well.

I also noticed the one in the dead sea (been a while since I saw one there) ....the dead may be rising out of Hell before too long.

That event has been reviewed by a seismologist. Perhaps it had not been at the time you posted (I don't know), but it has now:

Depth still remains at zero. Interesting after a review, but not unheard of.

Note: please remember to reference any sources you quote from and preferably include a link. This is required by the ATS/TAN T&Cs.
(Even though in this instance the data source was the Uni of Nevada in Reno, the source page is from USGS and we are supposed to acknowledge that.)

Best regards,

Mike

Jon Friemann has suggested that the magma movement could have been into an empty chamber as a result of the 4.4, if this is the case then something far more serious could be building up for the people of El Hierro. You can see his comments on Erik Klemetti's blog Eruptions @ that site Wired.
Rainbows Jane

You got a link to that showing when he said what?
I independantly suggested the same thing at 10-10-2011 @ 10:53 PM here on ATS Quake Watch 2011 and had maps up before IGN showing the location of the eruption.

I'm sure I could do better if I was getting paid for doing it, I try my best during the rainy days I get off work

Just as a matter of interest, the Historic Seismicity Map from USGS shows that the above-noted quake is the closest one to Easter Island since at least 1990:

(Source: USGS )

I sometimes puzzle over these off-plate-boundary quakes in locations like this. That island only exists due to seismic and/or volcanic activity (as it's based around three extinct volcanoes), but not much has happened there for a long time. Makes me wonder if the quakes in that region are purely from intraplate tectonic stresses or if they have a volcanic component as well.

Just thinking out loud...

Mike

edit on 11/10/11 by JustMike because: I corrected a hyphenated phrase so that any ambiguity was removed and also because it annoyed the heck out of me that I missed it. I reckon that not only you, but a few others on here as well could do a better job than some who get paid for it if you got paid for it -- or at least as good a job as they do.

I like the way you lay out those maps. Very easy to follow... And your systematic attention to detail is just brilliant!

BTW Muzzy... Pls check your U2Us.
