While many have gone unnoticed by the local population some of the larger tremors, including more than two dozen quakes exceeding 3 magnitude have been felt in the towns of Chemnitz, Karlovy Vary, Birch, Bukovany and Luby. The latest 4.0 magnitude quake struck at 1:37 PM local time and was measured at a shallow depth of just 1 kilometre. The epicentre was located 5 km SE Luby (pop 2,541) and 74 km SW Chemnitz (pop 247,220).
