Since January 26 when it broke its decades-long slumber, the volcano has erupted seven times, the agency said.

For many outside Japan, Mount Shinmoe is known for its role in the 1967 James Bond movie "You Only Live Twice," where it served as the lair for the villain, Ernst Blofeld.

"People in the area should prepare for the worst case scenario," said Satoko Ohki of the Earthquake Research Institute at Tokyo University.

Glad this thread is here. Hopefully a mod deletes my post. I never think to look at stickies as they are usually not of my interest. Thanks whoever linked me here.

Starting at 7:26 the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology recorded an earthquake swarm in the area of the super-volcano Campi Flegrei, near Naples. So far, the main event was that of the 4.8-magnitude 1.2, which was slightly felt by the people of Pozzuoli. Checks carried out by the situation room of the Department of Civil Protection Italy, found that there were no damages to people or property

There are no webcams for Bardarbunga at present that I am aware of.

No doubt if she blows there soon will be.

hmm

Some increased activity showing up on the Grimsjfall chart since 2 days ago.

hraun.vedur.is...

2-4 hz frequency clearly increased. Could indicate watermovement under the icecap.

Although there are quite a few google hits on this one, none of the sites so far that I've found are reputable. The usual volcano reporting sites eg John Seach SVE USGS have nothing to report so far.

Meanwhile....I came across this web page describing a drilling research exercise at Campi Flegrei which started supposedly in December. Here

This might problibly just be the storm that´s been in the country, 60m per second somewhere in the highland,
another one happening tonight might be affecting the meters.

this is the 3rd situation update on the iceland volcano. seems like he is saying is blown out of proportion.

Situation Update No. 3
On 11.02.2011 at 04:16 GMT+2

The Iceland volcano eruption last year wiped out flights for weeks and caused havoc all over the world. Bárdarbunga, the volcano which caused so much chaos, is reportedly set to explode again. However, the warnings were set off after an inaccurately translated quote from Icelandic scientist Pall Einarsson. After hearing of the volcano scare, Icelandic broadcaster RUV set up an interview with Einarsson about his predictions. He said in the interview that he could hardly believe how much information had been jumbled in its translation. RUV, the Icelandic broadcaster, interviewed Einarsson in his native Icelandic to clear the air about the controversy. When asked about his predictions for the volcanic eruption, Einarsson vehemently denied that he had ever predicted any such thing. He said to RUV during the interview, “It is really strange how this news came into existence. I wasn’t even warning of a likely eruption at Bárdarbunga [in the interview]…The things I emphasized in my interview with RUV’s Bjorn Malmqvist were that the earthquakes at Bárdarbunga and Kistufell last week are not unusual, there are often movements there, and sometimes much bigger than this.” “In the long-term, we can see an increase in earthquake intensity at Bárdarbunga. But it is still a lot less than between 1974 and 1996…And finally that Bárdarbunga is an active volcano and could of course prove dangerous, which is why there is always reason to monitor it closely; which is why we do,” Einarsson clarified.

Any comments?
